![]() "Make a Move" by Icon for Hire, the theme song for After Effect hits as the cameras light up and show Winston Wolfe, host, sitting at the desk and next to him is an Independent Wrestling legend, Rain. Winston Wolfe: Ladies and Gentlemen I am sitting here next to a certified Legend a man known as Rain. Now Rain you have been a part of the Independent scene for a long time and I would like to know how you feel about the Indy scene as it stands today. Rain: It's definitely improving through the years. before, not as many people knew about all the hidden talent. but now, with the advent of the internet and social networking it's becoming a big hit. I know I still love going to indy shows because nothing beats the added fan experience that certain companies won't give you. Winston Wolfe: With your experience inside an Indy ring and now with your experiences backstage and at ringside do you think the Indy scene is where it's at right now? Rain: Oh yes, definitely. You see a lot more passion and a heck of lot more bang for your buck. Winston Wolfe: Many people accredit the recent rise of the Indy scene to a man known as Mr. Hendrickson, a former boss of yours and as I hear a good friend now. Now many people see Mr. Hendrickson reinventing the scene into something it use to be such as the days of the AWA and earlier years of the NWA. DO you see this as the future or a way of reliving a past that should be left to fade away? Rain: I believe it's a very smart strategy and refreshing. Nowadays, when I get asked to watch friends' companies, they usually are a repetition of the same thing. They all wanna make it big, be global, spew the same verbal diarrhea. But they fail to realize that in the end, the focus should be back on wrestling where it belongs. NWA and AWA were the golden era of wrestling. If its not broke, don't fix it. I don't come to be entertained, I come to see wrestling the way it's meant to be. I love seeing it back. Winston Wolfe: Mr. Hendrickson has continueously evolved over the years and I've been there through the entire ride. I've noticed him doing things people frowned upon but made it work. After leaving UCW and taking a lot of his home grown talent with and creating 450WRESTLING he has once again done something remarkable. He has bought his own Television Station, Brought in Many new Genres of Programming and is now allowing his talent work anywhere and everywhere as a way of promoting his company. With the change in his demeanor since the UCW he has become a fan favorite and a huge mentor backstage. What do you think of him now compared to the times you had problems in the UCW? Rain: It's honestly one of the reasons my family is back in the company to be honest. We've been fighting for the same cause for the past four years. Totally caught me off guard. When he was in UCW, I along with everyone else couldn't stand him. He tried to hard to be a bit too controlling. He abused his power in excess; made a lot of my closer friends leave the business; but time heals all wounds and it's evident by his actions they are genuine. I can't to see how the product develops. Winston Wolfe: He has given you and your family a lot of credit behind the scenes for his change. He believes he wronged you and others like Frostbite and Dave Brickheart his years in the UCW. With this new sense of drive and direction Mr. Hendrickson can do unlimited great things for the Indy scene. Now I am not going to keep tooting his horn because he can do that himself but I just want to ask you one more thing about him before we move on. Mr. Hendrickson has said that he wants his shows to be what the fan base of Indy Wrestling wants to see. Now many purests want more Ironman matches and more matches that make the wrestlers be put through feats of strength and brawn. Now where do you stand on what should be seen more in Indy Wrestling compared to what Sports Entertainment has done with Cage matches and specialty matches. Rain: As my idol Mick Foley used to say "Hardcore is not about merely hitting people with a weapon and making em bleed like a stuffed pig." It's an actual art form. Today just like with music its no longer an art form. I wouldn't mind either of the stipulations, as long as it has proper reason for being there. If you overuse a match stipulation, chances are it's loses it's aura and becomes as average as a DDT or a Sleeper compared to the 80's when it was genuine finisher. Anything can be deadly if built right. Winston Wolfe: With that said it leads me directly into the next part of this interview. The Wrestlers of Independent Wrestling. Now in companies similar to UCW or other such companies the Wrestlers are more entertainment based and not based on fact. Now we have some very unique wrestlers in 450WRESTLING but we don't have anyone so out there that it makes it unbelieveable. Now with your experience in the backstage of 450WRESTLING do you see any true standout superstars who can bring back classic wrestling which Mr. Hendrickson wants to achieve? And do you think there are any superstars out there still that he can bring in to make the company even bigger than it already has become? Rain: I would say Justin Justice. Despite our dozens of spats, he paid his dues the hard way in the Independent scene and is the true definition of the company. Very few take the time to work their way up. Everyone wants to debut in the majors, but i respect him for earning his stripes and taking advantage when necessary. Kinda like a younger me in a way. That's what i liked about the UCW days. because they didn't focus so much on the giant names like in Rage's Era... they had newer people make their mark that you never expected to do anything. Winston Wolfe: Mr. Hendrickson has a certain group of wrestlers who follow him and you have seemed to be one of those guys. Even though you had your past with him you still follow. What makes a superstar leave a lucrative contract with a company like UCW to take a chance on an upstart like 450WRESTLING. Rain: The fact that he is equal opportunity, regardless of all the battles. Other companies would make you be buried in the card for years before you even sniff a title opportunity of any sort. He has always had quite an eye for talent, despite it getting to his head early on. If you want a true challenge, you come to 450WRESTLING. That way, you won't have to feel like you have to fill someone else's shoes or feel you have to do too much. The right place to learn and establish yourself. Hendrickson has way more connections than he lets on and could help people just getting into the business. Winston Wolfe: We all want to see the450 Empire continue to grow but as we know somehow Rage Sadler got his hands on some of the stock and currently runs under the banner of the450. Do you think that is going to ruin the name in the long run like many others do? Rain: Not really, I feel this change to the450 is long overdue. UCW deserved to end under Rage and Lee, all respect due. It just doesn't feel the same seeing anyone else run it. I just don't think it's fair to run it under the 450 banner. It's taking credit for something you didn't make. Outside of that, once Rage came back, my stay there was complete. Felt like I had done everything there is to do there and wanted to help out on the backstage end more. Winston Wolfe: I remember at the end Rage basically ran out all the talent Mr. Hendrickson helped groom for his 4 years there. Doing the dropping of the, well, seamen and just stupid things to make a mockery of the Hendrickson Era and everyone with ties to him. DO you think that alone was enough to call for an end of UCW using the450 name? Rain: Yes, very much so. It was sad to see him go that overboard. There are some things you just don't expose people to on television and that was one of them. I've spent the past couple weeks trying to talk both victims into wrestling again due to how much he embarrassed them. Winston Wolfe: It's a down right shame that that had happened. They seem to live off that and it's just sick. But lets move on because our viewers are much more intelligent than those in UCW and that is painfully obvious. So I have one more question for you before we have to end our show. Where do you see the Independent Wrestling Scene in 5 years? Rain: I see it continuing to rise even more. These days people are much more critical of the product than ever before. Unless something changes in the mainstream market, I expect those seats to fill to capacity very very soon. I think the only one these days that went big that still embraces their roots is ROH. As long as said companies have their head straight and work together, even the common fan is gonna be attracted to skip the major $$$ ticket to come see indies. Winston Wolfe: I agree with that statement. Oh need I not forget the next innovation under the Mr. Hendrickson years a show called Havoc! An all woman's brand that will evolve women's wrestling as a whole. What do you see could come from a show like this in the Independent scene these days? Now there is other companies which have all women wrestlers but I feel this is the next level already and it has yet to begin. Rain: Definitely. as I sat home trying to think of ways to improve the product, Fury, Brandy Danielle and I were discussing the unfair treatment of women by the general wrestling community. Most wrestling communities today view them as eye candy which is wrong in so many ways. Being in a female dominant family, I had a front row seat of seeing how it felt to be in their shoes. I feel that the creation of havoc will change the way people have viewed womens wrestling since the days of Moolah and Young. 30 - 40 years of womens wrestling being seen as free porn. It's overdue for a change. Winston Wolfe: It definitely is. It was reborn in the years of Lita, Trish Stratus and others in the WWE but since there has yet to be something substantial that is mainstream. I believe Havoc is going to be just that, Mainstream. Now since its inception more than a month ago we have yet to hear of a show coming. Now sources say Havoc will debut after or before the Royal Brawl PPV is that true or just a rumor? Rain: It's true. We wanted to give people a chance to learn about the product instead of diving in head first. I feel that was the biggest mistake when trying to run HCW all those times. We chose to dive into it way too early and the fans just didn't have the same amount of enthusiasm to it, deservedly so. With age comes maturity and I wanna make sure that this product eclipses what HCW was with proper preparation. Winston Wolfe: I believe with the backing of the450 Brand, Mr. Hendrickson and now TWN (Triad Wrestling Network) Havoc has a great chance to eclipse HCW by far. Well with that said we have many women superstars in 450WRESTLING and we have a good roster which can do cross promotion work. I know you have to be mum on what may or may not happen on Havoc so I will say this with the oppurtunity you have now Havoc has a chance to change the landscape of Women's Independent Wrestling as a whole. If done correctly Havoc can make great superstars out of wrestlers who's been pushed down for many years in companies built for men. So to just help guide this along I want to ask you one thing about Havoc. Do you think of Havoc as a 60s or 70s style company for women wrestlers or one of say the late 80s and early 90s? Rain: I would say a mixture of both. I want to focus on the wrestling moreso than anything else. Let these women be themselves. Winston Wolfe: Good way of thinking and I believe it's whats needed right now. But I think that is all the time we have here tonight Sir. I want to thank you for stopping by and taking part my little show here on the TWN. Rain: Thank you for having me here tonight Winston. Winston shakes Rain's hand and turns back towards the camera. Winston Wolfe: Ladies and Gentlemen that was Rain, a legend in many people's eyes, and this was the second edition of After Effect here on the TWN. Until next time God Bless. 'Make a Move' begins to play as Winston and Rain begin to talk and the scene comes to an end.
