Is there life out there?

Are we alone in this universe? Is Earth the only planet with life? Is it just us? Or is there another life form out there on some planet outside our own solar system?

I'm an Atheist so I don't believe in creationism. Instead, I tend to believe in the theory of evolution. And the way I see it is that if evolution was possible on the planet earth, then it is possible on other planets as well. There has got to be another planet out there somewhere with life on it. However, I do not believe in UFOs, alien abductions, or anything of that sort. There is life out there, but it's not coming to Earth to spread terror or gather intelligence.

Hmmm, I beleive it could exist, but there is no chance in hell that it's ever going to get to another planet.

Essentially, to get to another planet the species needs energy and materials from it's own planet. The energy has to have a higher output then input, so that limits the materials they'll be able to use. To reach another planet, not even Earth would have enough high output energy to reach another planet. Develop technology? Sure, except it takes energy as well and for a technology to be developed that can get us there (assuming there is some kind of magical susbtance that can fuel us enough to reach another planet), there wouldn't be enough to let us reach another planet in good time.

That's my basic argument for never seeing aliens from outside the solar system. If life can exist on Mars, then someday we might see something, if not then the chances are nil.

I do not believe that there is life out there.

If there is we will find it because nasa know what they are doing i think.

Well, I don't beleive they're going to pick up any radio frequencies anytime soon that they can be sure come from a lifeform. Do you have any idea how much background radiation (EM waves) there is in space?

Telescopes are useless for finding life, they're only remotely useful for finding planets that may be suitable for life. And even then, they can only see a certain distance into space. That distance isn't far/detailed enough to find life.

I have no doubt that there must be at least one other planet with life in the universe. It's really narrow minded to think there isn't a high possibility of at least one other planet with life with the number of planets there must be (probably impossible to ever even hope to count).

And I would fully expect there to be a wide ranger of intelligence in the universe, even that which is superior in intelligence than ourselves.

But do I believe in alien visitations? I'm not sure. I haven't had enough proof to believe in it fully, but there's been too much that hasn't been explained for me to rule it out completely. So I'm basically neutral.

If there is we will find it because nasa know what they are doing i think.

NASA isn't even capable of fully exploring the 9 planets in our own solar system so how can they possibly be able to determine if there is life on a planet outside our solar system?

Like I said, if evolution was possible here on Earth then it is possible on another planet somewhere in the universe as well. Whether that life form is similar to ours or not is completely guesswork. We don't have the ability to go outside or own solar system so I don't think other life forms have that ability either, so proving life's existence (at this point) is nearly impossible.

You can't know that.

Think about it like this. There are several moons in our own solar system that may very well have life. Now if there is a possibility of life in our solar system of nine planets (one with confirmed life, obviously) and one hundred fifty eight currently known moons, what do you think the odds are that there is life in a universe filled with an incalcuable number of suns - many of which undoubtedly have their own systems of planets and moons.

If there is a possibility of life being on another body in our system, in addition to Earth, then I'd be willing to say that the possibility for life elsewhere in the universe is very high.

I think the main reason why so many people refuse to believe that there is probably at least one other planet or moon with life in the universe besides our own is because we are an egotistical species. We, in general, tend to think of ourselves as being on top. We are a species with an inflated view of our importance. I believe many people refuse to believe because they want to feel that they are special. Perhaps it's because they want to believe that something created them, or perhaps it's because they want to believe that we are the peak of evolution, or perhaps it's because of one of many other reasons.

Whatever the reasonings are, I can not wait for the day that life is found somewhere in our universe other than this planet. I would hope I'm living at the time, but I doubt it. I would just love to see the impact that life found elsewhere in the universe (especially life that isn't on a microscopic level) would have on religion and on those who refuse to believe in the possibility.
