The Man. Any Questions?
|
Sure, I can help you out. x = 12 2/3 , OR 38/3 .... "thirty-eight thirds", or "twelve and two thirds". Or, in decimal, x = 12.666666666.... repeating decimal. If you need the entire work shown, and a walkthrough of this equation, PM me, and I'll help you out. |

Oh, you're doing these equations on a computer? You might have to type in expressions in certain ways; recheck the instructions (I'm certain there MUST be instructions) for your quiz/homework/whatever-it-is, and see if there is a certain formatting for repeating decimals or fractions. |

My Instructor told us that the system is ticky when it comes to answers, and that we have to find out how it wants us to input the answers ourselves. |

That's fucked up! If they want you to do work, they should at least tell you how! Anyway, there should be instructions in whatever program you're using. |

I plan on going out to a club on Saturday, as usual. In fact, that in mind... Hey Dan, you wanna come with? I said I'd invite you out sometime, well I'm doing it now. Yeah, anyway... I have work all saturday and then the club at night. Sunday I plan on having a nice rest, working all the alcohol outta my system. Sounds good to me. |

The Man. Any Questions?

Yes, in practical mathematics, there is no solution. The old "we don't divide by zero" rule. Actually, 0 works for this equation. You're not supposed to be able to divide by zero, but, when dividing zero, and only zero, by zero, there is a solution, and that solution is 1. That didn't make much sense, did it? Edit - Also interesting to note is that if the expression were written : x=0/0 , the value of x would actually be infinite. Any and all numbers would work, though "1" is the closest to a practical solution. All the other possibilities don't come into play until you start getting into theoretical mathematics. And we're not even going to start getting into all that kind of thing here. By the way: What's with all the math, lately? That "Math Thread" doesn't seem like such a bad idea now, does it? |

I'd certainly like to know the theory of 0/0 being equal to 1. You should create that mathematics thread (perhaps a mathematics/science thread), but I'm sure as hell not sifting through this thread looking for all those silly maths posts that were around and putting them in a new thread. Nosireebob, you can just create a new thread. In a computer (at least the programs I used), 0/0=LOGIC ERROR D-L is right. I can't think of any other simple, yet initially tricky math equations though. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Go hang a salami, I'm a lasagna hog. - Now that's a palindrome! |
