The Man. Any Questions?
|
I think I'm addicted to the History Channel. Yesterday, I actually watched (off-and-on) 8 hours of "The Revolution", a documentary on the American Revolutionary War. There were actually a few more one-hour parts to it, but I turned it on in the middle.... |

Speaking of history, there seems to be a lot of 11/9 stuff being advertised in the lead up to that anniversary. There looks to be some cool documentaries that aren't all obsessed with making a profit out of some moronic accusations about government conspiracy's. |

11/9? When are you commonwealthers going to come to terms with the western month/day/year date formatting and abandon the day/month/year format? :snicker: |

Stupid Americans. You know, it was originally the idea for Brits to adopt the "sulfur spelling", at the same time as the US adopted the "aluminium" spelling. The US simply didn't live up to their end of the deal (both academically, and pop culturely), so the Brits backed out as well. Good one assholes! New avatar for me. It's a beautiful image from a fantastic ending, to a great episode of The Simpsons. It brings a lump to my throat, something which Family Guy will never be able to do. Honestly, who can compare Family Guy to that? |

I haven't actually watched a full Simpsons episode in at least 10 years. It was all popular when I was a kid, but I never liked it. |

That saddens me. What saddens me more are the people who label it as dumb. It's probably about as far away from dumb as any show on TV has ever been. |

I watch the Simpsons on a few occasions. I never catch any of the new episodes since I rarely watch TV on Sunday nights (unless 4400 is on). However, I do catch a few episodes in syndication from time to time. I'd estimate that i watch about 4 episodes per month. |

Me? Probably about 50 episodes a month. We get a lot on cable over here. Strangely, the episodes never get oldand in most cases get better on repeated viewings. Can't say the same for Family Guy though. |

The Man. Any Questions?

I never cared if it was "dumb", "intelligent", "socially aware", or any of that crap. It just came down to "not funny", to me. A comedy is supposed to be funny, and it always just fell flat for me. |

What about it fell flat? I'm not about to debate about something as subjective as humour, but I've always believed that The Simpsons catered for all audiences, so that everyone would have something to laugh at. For the kids, there were crude low brow jokes, for the cynical folks there was the satire, for the pop culture obsessed, there were celebrity gags, for the mathetmatically inclined, there were tonnes of maths jokes. Blah blah blah, and so on. Despite all that, it never was intended to primarily serve as a comedy. I'd say half half was comedy. Much like King of the Hill, it was meant to be a drama driven by its characters, and it still retains that quality. That's the reason I love the show so much. |

I see you've registered at PWC, Neb. Just out of curiosity, what is your initial opinion of 6SW's one and only affiliate? 6SW needs more affiliates. |

It's damn big, not as big as the No Homer's Club, but big all the same. They seem generally friendly, and if they're all as well composed as Darren I'm sure it'll be a swell site to post at every now and then. If ciaran and whatwhats site gets big enough, you could always set up an affiliation with them. |

In the chatroom, he was saying that 6SW "needs more affiliates". I had no clue what he was talking about... Now, I finally noticed that "Affiliates" link at the top of the main page, and I clicked on it. I'm not the only one who never noticed, it seems, as it only has less than 200 "redirected hits". Their skin is painful. |

The font is too small, that's the only problem I have. I was gonna leave some feedback, but I don't think I can. I'll leave it here for Darren to maybe take note of... "General feedback goes here? I dunno what to say about that no sig advertising until > 75 posts. Seems a little dumb. If someone joins to put an advertisement in their signiture and then doesn't post, no-one is going to see, let alone pay attention to their signiture anyway. It's a bit of a hassle to not be able to have an initial incentive to post...other than all the glorious discussion, and fantastic members of course. <_< >_> <_<" |

Blunt! :blaze: Can you use the PM system, Neb? I check PWC from time to time to make sure the affiliate link is still up. The last time I logged in they had a system where you couldn't use the PM system until you made a minimum amount of post (20, I think). Also, the last time I posted at PWC Darren and I got into a minor flame war. And what a stupid flame war it was :/ |

I notice that the field for "quick login" has the usual **** characters in it. Are 6SW members automatically registered over there? I'm going to try the quick login and see what happens.... EDIT - Nope, it was just there for BS purposes. I went ahead and registered, though, since it only took a moment. After seeing the "whole" front page, I'm not too impressed. I didn't see anything that we don't have. |
