The Man. Any Questions?

After looking over their "member list", it looks like Darren and Resolve are the only guys who are active at both sites. Only two people! As "Affiliates", I would expect a lot more crossover than just two guys... |

FlairPinnedMe (great poster) used to post here when I first started the forums. However, she left when the forums died and hasn't been back since they became active again. Shame too, she was one of my favorite posters, at the time. |

Yes, I noticed that, and J-Two. Also, they have some, like Neb, you, and now myself, that aren't active over there. Only two are active at both. I found that strange. We have a lot more crossover posters with tv.com, a "rival" forum, than we do with our "friend". It just doesn't make much sense for that to happen. Unless, of course, the members at each forum don't know about the "Affiliation" (which may be the case, considering how few redirected hits are from here to there). |

It would be great if we could affiliate with a large site (such as tv.com). However, that would come with drawbacks as well. We'd have a lot of guests and new members, but at the same time we'd probably have more friction between members and more "watered down" threads. |

I've been browsing PWC. We have a few more options than they do (such as directly uploading avatars and click-on-name access to one's own profile). That seems strange to me, since both boards are powered by the same (invisionfree) backing, right? I figured both forums would have identical features. |

We do have identical features. However, admins decide which features members get to use. The small differences you are seeing is nothing more than the differences in forum management.
And as always, I try to keep 6SW as user friendly as possible, so if you see something that you like that 6SW doesn't have, then feel free to bring it up for discussion. |

I'll be sure to do that, as I'm currently scouting them, to see if they have anything cool that I can't find here (so far, I'm not impressed). I noticed that they have several "Admin"s, not just one guy. Too many cooks spoil the broth, and all that.... That could be why their setups are a bit more difficult to use. |

We are affiliates with PWC, so I do encourage all 6SW members to check out the forums (and I'd like to think their staff would do the same for 6SW). However, the reason I personally left the forums was because of their staff members. I saw too many arrogant staff members, too many public staff flames (both member-against-staff and staff-against-staff), too many staff changes, and the final straw was when someone was appointed to a position that I personally disagreed with. I haven't been there as an active poster in about a year, so I'm sure some things have changed. I hate arrogant staff members and tend to disassociate from any forum that has this nuisance. I'd like to think that 6SW has only as many staff members as is actually needed, that the staff are just normal members (and not arrogant due to their position), and that all members get along (save the few occasional "heated" arguments). |

That's true, about 6SW not having a huge staff. Jimmy was leaving the staff (and subsequently vanished altogether) just as I got here. I see no reason for three mods (actually, any...), since this forum doesn't have ANY real rulebreaking going on. Other than the occasional lock/merge of threads due to someone posting news that has just been put up elsewhere, I don't see -O- and Neb having to really run ragged. Even the very few jokers that come here and do something stupid to get banned are very few and far between. Since there isn't rampant rules violations, no need for a ton of moderators. Now, if we were, say, invaded by a flood of people coming in here all at the same time to try to "declare war", so to speak, it may take more than just three guys to keep up with the cleanup effort. But, as things are going very smoothly here, the small staff is more than enough. |

The reason for mods (in general) is two fold: First of all, it is virtually impossible for me to read every single post made every single day of the year. Having more staff members means that more people will be around to catch anything that maybe shouldn't be posted. The fact that the 6SW moderators do not have to do much actual moderating is a testament to the excellent member base that 6SW has. There are occasional spats, but for the most part everyone gets along with each other. Also, members don't go crazy with rule breaking. The most common problem I see is the occasional double posting and backseat moderating, both of which are not really problems. Considering the problems other forums have, then I'd say we are doing great. The second reason for staff is that staff members are suppose to encourage activity. Observer posts lots of wrestling news and keeps the wrestling folders active (except when he's busy with his personal life, good luck with all that if you are reading this O), while Neb thrives in any topic that any type of debate can form within. Plus, again, it is almost impossible for me to read and reply to every single thread and post created. When I first re-opened the forums in January, then I was active in almost every single thread and discussion made. It was fun, but at the same time it kind of burned me out on the concept of forum posting. Since I know other people (both staff and members) post throughout the forums, then I can be more selective about what I read and reply to. I don't know if that's a bad thing for an admin to do, but it keeps me sane. |

Brilliant wording. I'm not arrogant due to my position, I'm arrogant by nature. Actually, I don't think I'm all that arrogant anyway. A bit tight with my opinions is all.
As Cybrus said, it's a testament to all members (staff included) that we don't have to do anything. Of course I used the title, "members" deliberately because that's all myself and -O- are. I run POTM, WOTM and a few other nits and bits around the forum, and that requires a few moderating functions to allow it to go smoothly, but other than that the orange name is simply a title that's there as a pre-emptive measure, rather than a retroactive one. You (correct me if I'm wrong) look to have the opinion that moderators are there simply to enforce rules and make sure everything runs smoothly. While I definately agree that that's part of it, I think that it's there more as a protective measure should the powers need to be used, which they hardly ever are.
This relates back to the pre-emptive comment I made before. It's happened here on a large scale twice I believe, and the small staff that's currently going was more than able to clean it up within a half hour or so, and everyone else simply ignored it. It was the perfect situation. Other than that clean up process and a few warning points for outrageous rule breaking, I haven't had to use anything unless it's part of a little tidying process. I really don't think this website has staff in the sense that some websites do, I prefer to think of the staff as being members with a small responcibility to simply make the forums tidy. |

In other news, does anyone have a gimmick that can suit my 6th EFAW title? As in, when I won my fifth, I was able to use Booker's old "5-time WCW Champ" gimmick. Anyone have anything for six? |

But I hear that guy is really competitive. I don't think he's the type of guy that will voluntarily stop playing the game, if you know what I'm saying. (
