Homework on your first day? What kind of scam are they trying to pull there?

That's why they have knowledgeable people in other countries.

Meanwhile, we no-homework-having, make-the-FCAT-easier-because-we-can't-pass-it Americans are stuck with a country filled with people who don't know their asses from their elbows.

Our educational system is horrible compared to most other countries.

Yeah, but the first day is to get used to the school, and to learn the rules, not immediately start learning!

Dude, you're in, what? Eleventh Grade? You can't tell me that you aren't "used to" school, and don't know the rules by now.

Actually, strike that. Look around you in class, and I promise you will actually SEE some jokers that really can't grasp anything, even after all those years!

Too often, the "students" are just wastes of space. If they paid any kind of attention in class, instead of worrying about how they're going to be able to pass their little loveletter to Mary Jane Rottencrotch, they wouldn't be so stupid.

Hell, I'm not telling you anything you don't see for yourself every day...

All you just said is true. The only thing, is, though, after a break of a few months, it takes a little while to "Get back" into School. You can't expect people to be able to come to school, for the first time in over 2 months, and be able to sit down and take oddles amount of information.

Yes, I do notice the jokers. That's one of the reasons I was pissed that I didn't get into the academic school. I have to be surrounded by "Hooligans" now, and will have problems concentrating.

And the reason I didn't get in? I have no idea. I am at, or above, the levels you have to be at to be accepted.

Dude we had to learn about Vectors and Poetry. Don't forget discrimination and homework on the first day.

Does the homework count as a Test grade? Over here, (or at least what my teachers do) is count Summer homework as a test, to make sure you actually do it.

"At 5 A.M. a snowplow, traveling at a constant speed, begins to clear a highway leading out of town. At 6 A.M. an automobile begins traveling the highway at a speed of 21 mi/hr and reaches the plow 30 minutes later. Find the speed of the snowplow.

Before we go solving that, we need to know which direction the autombile is travelling in!

Is it going the same way as the plow, and catching up from behind?

OR:

Is the automobile coming from the opposite direction, and meeting the plow head on?

You will get two drastically different answers, depending on this very important tidbit of information...

Well, if the two vehicles have identical starting points, the answer is:

seven (7).

There are two ways to go about this:

1. The SRP76 instant-solve shortcut method

or

2. The show-your-work algebraic method

Which would you like to see?

Before typing out a bunch of bullshit, I'll just give you the shortcut, for now, because it'll help you quickly solve similar problems when you see them.

It gives the speed of the car (21). It tells us how long it is on the road (half an hour, or "0.5", because 6 to 6:30 is half an hour).

It also tells us how long the plow is on the road (an hour and a half, or "1.5", because 5 to 6:30 is an hour and a half).

That's all you need for the shortcut; the rest of that shit is just going to distract you.

Since we know the two vehicles travel the same amount of distance (duh, they start at the same point, and they MUST end at the same point, if they "meet"), it's just a matter of:

"How much faster is the automobile, then the snowplow?".

Well, it took the snowplow 3 times as long to cover the same distance (1.5, as opposed to 0.5). That means the car is moving Three Times as fast as the plow.

21 is three times the speed of HOW many?

21 divided by 3.

7 (seven).

It took a LOT longer to type than it took to actually solve.

This makes, what, four times that math has pervaded this thread?

I'm going to go ahead and make that "Member Math" thread, since the subject is getting such a workout...

We'll have a place for everyone to help each other with their math assignments (especially now that school has started up again for everyone).

Where is this math thread?

It is now open.

EDIT-

I probably should have also said, "In General Discussion"!

I wonder if we should do the same for other subjects, such as Language (that would be "English" for everyone here), History, and Sciences (or maybe just a few disciplines), since school has begun.

So far, we've only encountered math questions, but it's only a matter of time before the other subjects start popping up...

STAY HYPED!!!
This reminds me of another forum I tried to start a while back called "The Homework Center". The idea of the forum was to create a place where people could come to find help with whatever subjects they were having difficult understanding and/or provide help for people seeking help. The forum never took off. :( I think it's cool that people are willing to help others, but I would honestly not be surprised if someone was just looking for someone else to do their homework for them. Yup, still cynical.

Also, 6SW has been dead tonight. Where is everybody at? Sleeping?

There's a forum in Australia called Bored of Studies, which I'm a member of that promotes that exact idea. It's like, Australias biggest forum or something. So it's not a bad idea.
