The Man. Any Questions?
|
Whole lot of activity tonight..... By the way, has anyone noticed how a lot of high-number posters tend to avoid this thread? |

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!

Sometimes, I just don't know what to say here. I have to butt in with something to get it going on here. |

I see you post here from time to time. Other guys, like Kametsou, have thousands of posts, but never come here.... |

Why is it that people go online to have light hearted and fun conversations with people that have common interest, yet are quick to label threads such as this "spam"? There have been several good conversations within this thread. |

Who called it "spam" (in the demeaning way; not the title)? I wouldn't consider this spam at all. I would consider it "miscellaneous conversation". As you can see, I couldn't resist paying a visit to the "old board" while the site was down.

I did, but I won't be going back.
I was only there because 6SW was down. It'll probably be another 6 months before I post there. Hopefully, someone reads those three posts, and gets a good debate going. To that point, they had seemed to be ignoring one another's votes. |

Changing topics.... For the last few days, I've been feeling like I'm starting to come down with the flu. It started with my ears. It felt like they were clogged up and I had a harder time hearing. Then my sinuses started getting congested. The underneath of my tongue hurts. And I had a minor fever all day Sunday. I've been taking over the counter medication since I'm not exactly sick. I hope everything clears up before Tuesday. I hate my ears popping on a plane as it is. I don't need to feel the pain of an infected ear popping on a plane.

Michelle and I have decided to split up the holidays. We'll spend Thanksgiving with her family and Christmas with my family. She hasn't seen a lot of her family that lives out of state in a while, so we'll be flying out a few days before Thanksgiving and won't be back until a few days after Thanksgiving. Yipee!

That's rough. It's going to be a zoo this close to the holiday (not much you could do about it, though, unless you took vacation time and flew out a week earlier). I've been mulling the possibility of creating my own "quiz" for 6SW members to take part in (I got the idea after a chatroom conversation with Neb and D-L earlier). I wonder if anyone would be willing to take part. |

I will, unless it's extremely long. Anything over 10-15 questions is just too much for something that is suppose to be fun, I think. |

Oh, it's still in a very early planning stage. I haven't been considering it long. It would likely only be about as long as the LPS challenge quizzes. About 15 questions, like you said (maybe 20, to work an even percentage). |

Why type of quiz is it? Is it themed or will it cover multiple subjects? |

*thinks* I was thinking of either doing a "half wrestling/half 6SW" one, or doing a "random trivia (of course wrestling would creep into it)"-type. "Random" meaning anything from tv to history to math problems....completely random. |

Complicated math problems? Not that I'm putting anyone down, but given our member base I think that many would be lost on anything above a basic algebraic problem. |

No, no, nothing strenuous. It may not come up. For the "random" idea, I thought of maybe going to Wikipedia, or someplace like that, and selecting "random article". Then, I come up with a question about whatever subject that comes up on it. |

What you could do, and this was something I considered doing when I hosted LPS but obviously didn't, is make a T/F quiz, however expand the scope by either asking the players to explain why a False statement is False or by asking them to correct the False statements and make them true. |

Could do that. However, some people might be put off by the idea of "explaining", thinking they might have to type a bunch of stuff. Most people don't like to make long posts. I could do a combination, with a couple of those, a couple "fill in the blank", a couple multiple choice, a couple "riddles", and the rest just straight-up Q&A.... |

Lots to reply to now. Also, the maths problems sound like fun, even if I doubt that I could win when there are, amongst others, an accountant, a maths major and a computer programming student posting on the board.
Yes, yes I have noticed that but it seems to me that it's an on and off thing. WWEWL doesn't make a great habit of posting here like he used to, and seems to have left it for dead. Fittes stopped posting here a while back. TheObserver posts here, but only occasionally to update us on his life and such (:P). Myself and Cybrus seem to make a good habit of posting here though.
Sounds like you'll have a blast. Last time I was on a plane (the 'to' flight actually, so second last), I had midly blocked nasal sinuses and experienced a pain like no other in my ears and neck. 'Twas horrible. |

Alright, I think I'll make a thread putting my "quiz idea" up for approval. I've got a pretty solid idea of what to do with it, now. If nobody responds, or just tells me to get screwed, I won't bother posting the actual quiz. If it gets some interest, though, we'll move ahead. This would give everyone something to "play" while waiting for the next LPS installment, at the very least. |

I just put it out for feedback. The actual game would come out probably next weekend, and stay available for a few days. I would keep it open until everyone had a chance to play. That is, if this thing doesn't go over like a fart in church. |

I think you're being far too pessimistic about it. Between my own constant ramblings, the demands of Leviathan and the overall and quite high community atmosphere of this particular forum, I don't think you've got much to worry about in terms of activity. If anything, the only thing that influenced what I would call a remotely underwhelming response to the last quiz was the length (which Cybrus called out specifically), and the questions which probably weren't aimed to the demographics of this forum. I think that so long as you take into account those factors, then everything will be fine. |

The Man. Any Questions?

Yes, I thought about the "length" issue, and that's where I came up with the points system. I figured it should appeal to anyone, since the point is to answer as little (or as much) as they want, and in any order. I'm thinking that if people do play, we'll probably get at least one "gambler", that tries to go straight for the high-payoff questions. |

Ah, I must have skipped over that particular issue of points going up with what I assume will be difficulty. A suggestion: Even though you may have already considered this, I, personally, wouldn't make the higher scoring questions rely soley on difficulty. For instance, I'd allocate more points to a difficult wrestling based question over a difficult maths based question etc etc etc. Relevance, I feel, would be the key there. |

The Man. Any Questions?

True. I figure ALL the real bangers will pay out well, but the wrestling and 6SW ones will be a little higher than the general trivia. However, some of the big ones will be very obscure. I don't want people whacking softballs for huge points. |
