John Cena was on ESPN Radio around 11:20 am today with Collin Cowherd (an often big critic of pro wrestling by calling wrestling fans "booger eaters" and even creating controversy by his comments about Eddie Guerrero's death). Cowherd was bored with the Tigers vs. Cardinals World Series and he claimed that he's bringing in John Cena to be a special opinion about the World Series, given Cena's hometown ties to Boston and being a Red Sox fans.

Collin said that wrestling fans are still "booger eaters", but he believes that Cena is the "absolute star of the WWE", citing his past education and success in pro wrestling. They played the Baseball Tonight theme and mixed it with Cena's wrestling theme.

- Collin asked what he thought about the big money teams being out of the World Series (Boston, New York, etc.) and Cena said it was "great" to see new teams getting a chance.

- Yesterday, there was a discussion about what NFL players would make good pro wrestlers, and they agreed that Jeremy Shockey would make a good wrestler. They then discussed Terrell Owens not being a good wrestler (too uncooperative), but Cena said he'd have a great match with Owens.

- Collin asked how Cena got into pro wrestling, despite his athletic career and his degree in exercise phisiology. He said that he was a big fan of wrestling and thought about being a wrestler when being an Offensive Lineman in college during his senior year. By chance, he found a way into the business and wrestled for 2 years in Southern California.

- Cena was asked about Alex Rodriguez and how he should be traded from the Yankees. Cena was amazed at how much a city has affected a player's ability and said that the Yankees must trade him. He said that Boston, on the other hand, embraces their players, such as accepting Manny Ramirez for "

- What is the best wrestling city? Top 5: Detroit, Chicago, New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia. East Coast is the best area, with the exception of the 2 midwest cities given.

- Collin thanked him for the interview and said afterward, that all "high brow" people will dislike that interview but that the 8 minutes of this interview will be the most heard segment of the week because of wrestling fans (whom he called "booger eaters" again). Collin said that wrestling fans can now "go back to making out with their arm".

- Collin said that he hates wrestling fans but loves having high quality wrestlers on his show. Collin asked his contributor, Compass, to try to get Hulk Hogan for a future show.

End of interview.

Oh, I just love making out with my arm. It's the best thing ever. I really wonder why he hates wrestling fans so much. Good interview, btw.

Think Scott Steiner :-/

That guy is a serious dick. The only negative thing I can think about wrestling is that the victories are predetermined. But it actually takes athelitic skill to jump off a turnbuckle and land the right move. I'm pretty sure you can can't pick some random dude on the street and tell him to balance a 500 pound man on his shoulders

I missed that one.

I never heard of this guy until I read this thread. When I first read the above interview I just thought that he liked to trash talk the fans, which I didn't really take too personally. But... I don't know what he said about Eddie Guerrero either. So if a fans put out a petition against him, it must have been pretty bad.

He basically tried to downsize Eddie's death. He consider Eddie's death not important enough to be reported on sports magazine (Or some sort of media) since he was a wrestler.

This guy basically has a strong bias againts wrestling for reasons he rarely say.

I actually listen to his show. He has always lumped wrestling fans into this same category. He also knows that a lot of his listeners are wrestling fans. There has been many days, with slow sports news, when he stirs up the wrestling fans and gets an hour or two with them discussing wrestling. He takes the anti wrestling side to keep things stirred up. He says all wrestlers are on steroids and lay in tanning beds etc. But during his discussions, he always brings up old school wrestling stuff like the Koloffs, Jimmy Snuka, The 4 Horsemen etc. I think he watched wrestling, maybe not anymore, but he knows what his job is. He stirs things up for radio and wrestling is an easy mark. Also, his producer is a fan and the two of them argue on air sometimes also. Think of it as Colin is a heel and he is doing his job well.

Actually, what it shows is the perception of the "mainstream" media and the marketing of the WWE that Cena is their champion....Not Booker T nor the Big Show. Cena is the flag ship of the company and so is the WWE title. THAT proves who the "champion of champions" is in Vince's eyes.

Cena sells the most merchandise, headlines the most PPVs, is synonymous with WWE Championship (I'm not saying he's a good one, just that he's always involved with the belt and has been for nearly 2 years), and gets the most mainstream exposure. That makes him the biggest star in wrestling today. He's not the best wrestler on the roster, but he's arguably the most recognizable in regards to mainstream.
