KELLER'S BLOG: Today's poll results should be wake-up call to Vince McMahon
Nov 7, 2006, 15:38

The last two episodes of Raw are probably the two worst back-to-back episodes ever. Not because of anything offensive that will make good fodder to make fun of years from now. No, this is a different kind of bad. Boring, counterproductive, and almost hopeless. I'm in my 20th year covering pro wrestling and this is among the two or three worst periods in terms of fan reaction to a major promotion.

Today's current PWTorch Instant Poll asked for PWTorch readers' general feeling about WWE right now. At this time, 92 percent of those responding say it's "Bad and Getting Worse" (34%) or "Terrible and Testing My Patience" (58%). Only 5 percent say it's "Okay and Holding Steady," and only three person say it's good or great.

Vince McMahon needs a wake-up call. Somebody with his ear needs to risk their job, grab him by the lapels, shake him, and tell him that the current direction they are going in is not working. They are running out of patchwork gimmickry to hide the diminishing interest in the product - such as raising prices, entering new markets, releasing more books and DVDs, increasing the quantity of PPVs, and trying to send more people to WWE.com to get more ad revenue.

The domestic buyrates are down. Way down. Ratings aren't at alarming levels yet, but they're not good, either. Last night's show might even hold steady or increase because the Monday Night Football game was so poor last night. But the trend overall for all three shows is downward. And I'd argue that the fans still watching are (a) less likely to spend money than ever before on WWE pay shows; and (b) hanging on by a thread and more willing than ever to give up on the product.

There aren't any easy fix-its. WWE's entire booking philosophy is bankrupt. Years of bad decisions are catching up to them. But even with their stretched-thin roster, they could begin to book better TV.

In our Raw Poll, 55 percent gave last night's show a 0 or a 1 on a 1-10 scale. 81 percent scored it 3 or lower. This poll is not taking into account the PWTorch readers who were turned off by last week's show (or the last few months of bad shows) or who were so frustrated last night, they didn't even visit PWTorch.com today. But among the fans who watched and decided to visit PWTorch today, the vast majority disliked the show - strongly.

The message is there. Vince and Co. can deny the message, or step up and accept that change is necessary and begin to enact major changes. If they don't, these bad decisions will continue to pile up and cost them for months to come.

Do you agree or disagree with his views? I agree with what he was saying. A lot of people are fed up with the WWE product. Many are tuning it out and giving TNA a shot. I actually voted in those polls. I wish someone would e-mail those poll results to Vince and see what he thinks.

I'm just now reading one of the eight batches of the viewers' feedback from this past RAW show and I must say people are fed up.

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
I can agree with him on the following:
-Vince needing badly a wake-up call as to improve the show's quality. Raw mostly needs improvement.
-WWE as a whole isn't going well, even if Smackdown and ECW are quite better than Raw nowadays.

I've started to watch TNA a little bit. Even if I'm a stranger to the whole roster, I think the X Division and the Tag Team Division TNA has is really good.

I wish that some other Peruvian channel different from ATV (who shows Raw and Smackdown 1 month delayed) brings up TNA. But it might fade away in a matter of months due to people not liking wrestling or not knowing about TNA that much.

STAY HYPED!!!
WWE's product is getting bad. For a while I kept telling myself that as bad as it currently is, WWE still isn't as bad as it was during their last low point 1996 back (I cannot pinpoint the ending year, since I was young at the time and still mark-ish). Then I listened to SRP and realized that the current WWE landscape is as bad as it was during it's last down time. It's getting to the point where I'd rather record the shows so I can fast forward through most of them than actually watch them. It's almost to the point where I stop watching a few shows and just read the spoilers. I'm praying TNA or any other company becomes competition to WWE within the next few years. WWE has the talent, they just spread their rosters out to thin while using the wrong guys. I mean, come on, they are pushing Khali, Boogeyman, and Miz while Carlito, Shelton, and Haas all do nothing.

Interestingly enough, these were comments made my yours truly, over a year ago on TV.com:

TNA by far has the better wrestling. TNA, though is trying to be like WWE in the main event square. Jeff Jarret is a title hog (like HHH was) it buys old washed up superstars (Nash, etc) for one time deals (like Goldberg/WWE and Hogan) to make a big buck. Other than that, and the crappy timeslot, it's better. I kind of like WWE's storylines though. They lead up to crappy matches, but when they have to make a good show, they do a great job of it.

This is something I still partially believe. This was around a time, where WWE was sub-par, but still in the Ballpark with their storlylines. (When Bischoff was the GM) I even remarked about the crappy wrestling on the WWE PPV's! TNA has definitely improved, though, with Jeff Jarrett not the champion, and the timeslot moving up.

It makes me wish WCW was still around. The Creative team has obviously let the lack of competition go to their head. As long as people still watch the show, it obviously doesn't matter how good the brand can be.
