STAY HYPED!!!
|
I was lurking around other wrestling forums and it dawned on me how great 6SW is. I'm not saying that to be cocky. I'm just stating that compared to the other forums I went to, 6SW is clearly better. At other forums I visited, I saw admins literally begging for ideas about how to keep the forum from dying. I saw forums that were so active that they haven't been posted in for months. I've seen wrestling forums considering lumping all their wrestling discussion into one or two wrestling folders (not sub-folders, just one big folder) and still expecting to be seen as a wrestling forum! I'm not saying that every single one of our folders is active every single day, but for the most part 6SW gains a healthy dose of activity every day. At 6SW, we do not see any power struggles. Staff members don't threaten to quit and take their friends with them if they don't get their way. One staff member doesn't go out of his way to make another staff member constantly look bad. The staff works together as a cohesive unit to help 6SW in whatever way they can. I cannot say the same about other forums I visited. It's true that not every 6SW likes each other. I strongly dislike a few posters. However, we all tend to interact in a civil manner. Sure, we take jabs at each other, but not to the extent that I've seen at other forums. I've gone to forums where flames were so common that I couldn't even make it through a normal topic without witnessing the thread denigrate into a flame fest. When new members sign up at 6SW people go out of their way to make them feel welcomed. Even if it is painfully obvious that the poster isn't going to be active, people still try to make that poster feel welcomed to post if he/she were to decide to come back. I've seen other forums treat their new members like garbage simply because they were knew. Yeah, like that's going to make anyone want to stick around! I have been comfortable at 6SW for a long time. I've always knew there was a reason, and I knew the reason wasn't simply because I'm the owner. It took me looking at other forums to remind me why 6SW is so appealing. 6SW: Gotta love it! [/end cheerie-emotional crap] |

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!

6SW is really a great forum to enjoy the stay 24/7. What I like about this forum is that the core of 6SW is still united and makes the forum like a great, friendly enviroment. The 6SW core accepts everyone in opens arms and helps everyone to get along with each other. You don't see that in most forums. Very few live strong and wealthy. 6SW is really a great forum. I get distressed here, even if I get into arguments with a few people. Great forum, man. |

Neb tries to make me and -O- look bad everyday! Of course, since that's not you, you just look away, right? Haha, seriously, 6SW has become the only forum I visit regularly. It's seemed that over the course of the past few months, it's only gotten more active, which is awesome. |

This really is one of the best forums that I post at, besides my own, of course. This place is more active than my forum and you have a lot of good members here. I too, have posted at forums (and still do) that have nothing but arguing, bickering members that are nothing but negative, and I don't post there much anymore. If I have learned anything over the years, it's to take it easy and not take this stuff so seriously....to go with the flow. In fact, I kind of have Cybrus to thank for helping me see that. Not to mention, I've mellowed out over the last few years. JD knows what I'm talking about....as does Cybrus. |

6SW is a great forum compared to the other forums I have been recruiting at aswell as TV.com because all of the staff aren't stiffs, and none of the members are constant spammers. |

Stand Back! There's a Hurricane Coming Through
|
I have been a member of several wrestling forums. Cybrus and I have been members of a lot of the same ones. And, clearly, this forum is the best for discussing wrestling. I have discussed topics on here that have gone through several members and several pages in the post where the same topic on another board gets one or two responses. People here seem to actually want to talk wrestling on a wrestling post board. That's such a novel concept. I like it.

And what's wrong with that? What should we have done? Let it die? I don't think so. I believe that asking for suggestions on how to improve a website from the very people who visit it says a lot about someone's dedication to that place. I could have said "fuck it" and let SS be nothing more than a wasteland, but I didn't. I try making it active, and I try making it interesting. Is that so wrong? Apparently. I best not try to pique interest in the board I administrate from now on, because it's laughable. Please forgive me for showing concern about the forum I've posted on for nearly four years instead of turning my back on it like so many others have. "What should we do to improve this website?" "I don't know... probably not reply to any topics and then complain about a lack of activity. Then leave. That makes sense." I wouldn't expect you to post something like this, Cybrus, and quite frankly it hurts - especially since you're the former administrator of the site you so subtly alluded to. |

WWEWL and -O- are the worst staff members anyone could have ever mustered up. They're mean, ineffective and totally uncool. It's a wonder that I've been able to hold my tongue for this long. Whoever reccomended them must have been one real douchebag. If I had a gun... *shakes fist* But yes, we have it good. I lay the blame squarely on Nebuchanezzar.
Lots of interesting points that I have absolutely no knowledge on, except one. Whilst I may be the one who's misinterpreting things here, I will stand up and say that Cybrus listens to what people want 95% of the time and makes adjustments to benefit the forum. If he doesn't make an adjustment, they're usually for a reason which I may not totally agree with, but at the very least still fully understand (talking about a paid host here). Once more, perhaps I'm misinterpreting, but that's not how the staff here runs, or has run things in the past. I do browse Sharpshooter from time to time though, and will say that the problems with the forum seem to stem from general cynsism and inactivity, not from the admin/staff team. Then again, what do I know? |

I wasn't insulting Cybrus' style of administrating, partly because I haven't browsed this board long enough to see it in action and partly because nobody would be posting here if he was an absolute dick. Plus from our past conversations (which used to be quite frequent) I actually think we see eye to eye on a lot of things.
You are indeed correct. While I do disagree with my co-administrator on numerous occasions (and it's plain to see if you read the feedback forum), I find that a lot of the problems surrounding SharpShooter have to do with either cynical attitudes ("Why post this? Nobody will reply to it anyway...") or lack of activity. We have great wrestling posters, but they aren't around on a consistent basis. They'll show up every other day but there's nothing for them to reply to since nobody ever thinks about starting a wrestling discussion (though that has picked up these past few days). And I just figured that if nobody was going to talk about wrestling, we might as well give them other things to do while on the forum. I don't see a problem with that. |

Oh, no, you caught me. Talking behind your back. And now you are here. Standing up for yourself. What ever will I do? ![]() My comments were not intended as a direct insult to Sharpshooter, although I can see why you'd take it that way. I was merely comparing 6SW to several boards and listing the advantages I see over them. I may be bias, but I think 6SW is doing exceptionally well, especially for a small wrestling forum. With wrestling in a slump, a lot of smaller boards are finding themselves struggling to stay alive. Now, if you want me to answer your questions, I will.
I've never said anything bad against asking for suggestions. I ask for feedback and suggestions all the times. It's a sign of good administration when feedback is asked for. My diss was aimed towards administrators that have absolutely no idea what they are doing and are literally begging for help. My original comments was a comparison to several boards. The only thing I specifically took a dig at SS for, and I'll take it again, is the notion of lumping all wrestling conversations into one or two folders. That's a bad idea. If your wrestling folders are not active, then try creating multiple threads daily. Instead of pretending to offer news, simply post that news within the relevant wrestling folder and allow members to comment on it. If your members are not responding, then perhaps it is time to start a membership drive in order to recruit new members that do enjoy wrestling discussions. Or, you know, you could just come here, read something that is vaguely related to your site, over react, and create a really bad first impression. Whichever works best for you.

Cy, it is possible to make a point, to someone who I'm guessing you used to share a pretty tight bond with (strictly speaking in internet terms of course), without coming across as a surgically manipulated penis. Examples?
Of course, that's not to say that you're entirely wrong here. I did just make an entire post defending you, which I thought was a nice thing for me to do. I'm just trying to be fair. OH THE HUMANITY! I shall indeed leave. |

Fair enough. Though with my recent posting of threads that asked for suggestions on how to improve SS it was kind of hard for me to think that you weren't talking about them, although I'd say they were far from begging (which is what got me in the first place - I thought you were trying to make things look different than they truly were).
Of course it's a bad idea, which is why I've since changed my mind about it. |

6SW is a great combination of posters. You have your smarks, marks, intelligence, and stupidity, all rolled up in to one very happy little community. Oh...And you have a side of attitude/sarcasm to boot. And...No annoying pop ups. What could be better? While I will always hold SS near to my heart...it was time to move on. (not abandon it) With that said....6SW is my new home. For now, at least. |
