2012 ROYAL RUMBLE WINNER MOTHERFUCKERS!!!
|
No, not a swimming pool, but the game of pool, billiards. Anyways, lately, I've really been getting into pool. My friends and I goto the bowling alley (which is where we play) about 3-4 times a week where we have to pay a buck a game, which I think is a good deal. I'd estimate that I've probably spent around 35-40 bucks playing pool. Its quite addicting and I'm actually getting a lot better than when I first started playing (obviously, practice makes perfect). So I'm wondering, is anyone here into the game of pool? |

I play pool often. A dollar a game is pretty high. The place I go to only charges 50 cents a game. I don't usually pay for many games though. The way it works at the bar and grill where I play is that you pay to play your first game, then if you win the table the challenger pays for that game. So as long as you hold that table, you play for free. Since we are in a pool thread, what is your biggest pet peeve about the game? I personally hate it when someone tries to play without calling their shots. It just pisses me off. Or even worse, if they call the pocket but nothing else and think that's calling your shot. Ugh! |

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
|
The cheapest I paid to play pool would be $1.5 an hour. Most expensive would be paying $10 an hour. Depending on the places you play. Pool is cool to play... I'm not addicted to it, but it's entertaining to play once in a while. |

Do you mean calling every shot? Or just the last shot with the 8 ball? I don't know of any pet peeves I may have at the moment, I'll have to find out tomorrow when I play. |

The way I was taught to play, and the way I've always played, is that you have to call every single shot. If you are going to bank a shot, then you have to call that. If you are going to make a combo shot, then you have to call that. If you are going to ride the rails down (walk it), then you have to call that. If you expect the cue ball to double kiss, then you have to call that (but no one calls that. it's damn near impossible to call.) That's the way I'm used to playing. That's the way most of the people I play against play. But every now and then some punk gets on the table and hits a ball in by accident and still thinks it is his turn.

I play that way. One of my friends (whos apparently is the most knowledgable(sp?) out of the group) calls that slop when you make a shot when you weren't intentially trying to make it. Though, since most of the group are still learning alot, we play that way anyways. We don't call every shot, and we just have fun. Not at the point where we'll take it serious and call every shot like you play. I know I'd easily get my ass kicked playing you. |

The cheapest i've played, was free, at my friend's house once. I don't play it often, but I do know, at least, some skill to the game. |

When I play at the bar we don't call the obvious shots. Just banks and the 8 ball and any other difficult shot. Challenger always pays. I've got a table lined out to buy. I've got two sticks. Ones a cheap stick but the other is a $300 stick. |

I love playing pool. The thing we do in Britain is that we pay for each game as we play. I went 20 games unbeaten last year and I really like the game. I am suprised it took so long for a thread like this. |

My friend has a pool table and we play often. I too like to play by calling shots as Cy explained. But, I would rather play 9 ball than 8. What about you guys? |

I've only played 9 ball a couple of times. Right now, we prefer 8 ball. Though later down the road, we may switch over to 9 ball. |

Love pool, and I want to get even better at it. My dad from what I hear is a great pool player, and I want him to teach me even more about the game. I do have a nasty habit of "sloppy" shots

I was playing today, on 2 tables at once. It was hard. On one table, I was doing alright, on the other table, I was doing horribly. And to top it off, I was solids on one table and stripes on the other. During those two games, I won on the one I was sucking on (my friend hit the 8 ball in as well as the cue ball) and on the other one, I lost. Though I did manage a 3-1 record today. I was pretty proud of myself, especially the last game as it went by quick. |

9 ball is cool but it can be impossible to keep up with when your drinking because you have to make sure the person hits the correct ball first. 8 ball allows you to mingle as you play. Usually when I play in a tournament it's 9 ball. |

My friends and I played 15 ball when it was just the 3 of us. Same rules as 9 ball, but with 15 (duh). We didn't want to waste the balls by putting them in the pockets as its kind of a waste of a buck. |

What you do is set the extra 6 balls aside, play nine ball, then play a make-shift game of 6 ball using balls 10-15. But I guess your way is just as well since you three have fun doing it that way. That's all that really counts anyway. |

We only did it a couple times. We did have fun and I guess that really is all that counts. Though, I'll bring up your idea of setting the last 6 aside and playing 6 ball after 9 ball. |

It seems that I'm the only one that OWNS a pool table, here on 6SW. I play a lot on the weekends (with my family). Now, you guys, feel free to come over any time... I'm very decent... Got the "Eye of the Tiger"...

I'd love to come over. PM me your address. Kidding, though I'd love to have a pool table...Just we don't have any room to put it, and we don't have the money, heh. |
