UK, January 15, 2007 - A woman drank herself to death during a radio station's competition to win a Wii by seeing how much contestants could drink before going to the toilet.

However the challenge ended in disaster when 28-year-old Jennifer Strange was killed by "water intoxication". She was hoping to win a console for her three children.

A work colleague said Ms. Strange left her job and went home sick because her head was "hurting real bad". She was later found dead at her home by her mother.

John Geary from KDND 107.9 in California, the station that organised the competition, said staff were stunned by Ms. Strange's death. He added: "We are awaiting information that will help explain how this tragic event occurred."

Those taking part were given a 225ml bottle of water to drink every 15 minutes. As the contestants were whittled down they were given larger bottles. It's not known how much Ms. Strange drank.

Yeah, I heard about this. It's pretty sad that she died while trying to win something for her kids.

Lol, that's sad. All for a Wii.

Of course, everything in excess can damage you.

Water --> Bones.

Maybe Jennifer had calcium deficency.

Well of course water CAN kill you if you force yourself to drink it

and that doesn't just go with water, it can be anything...for example if you force yourself to drink slim milk then you can die

and as for the woman. She should have been smarter and should have used her brain and thought about the consequences of forcing water down her throat.

or she could have gotten a job and just buy the damn wii

Education- Get it, Use it, and you Won't Regret IT

Haha cunt...

In seriousness though I'd imagine you went some way to get the wii for her kids but if she was on the verge of fainting I'm sure she would have stopped.

Wow,that's crazy. Yeah, she didn't use her head, but at least she was getting the Wii for someone and not for herself.

STAY HYPED!!!
I know this is a stupid thing for me to say, but does anyone else find it odd that the person that died of water intoxication was named Mrs. Strange?

I never knew drinking too much water was bad for you. I'd like to read some medical related info describing exactly how too much water intake can kill you. I know drinking too much alcohol thins your blood too much, resulting in death. But water doesn't affect a person's blood, does it?

You force yourself to drink the water. It's like continuing to force yourself to eat even though you are full.

Your mind tells yourself to stop eating because you can't consume anymore....and if you continue to eat you will probably throw up....

Here you go Cy

I always thought it had somethng to do with cells becoming hyper (or is it hypo) tonic, in that they have far too much water in them and hence burst. Prolly not.

Jackymatic beat me to it (EDIT: In his post where he posts a link), water intoxication is one of the main reasons why elite athletes drink Gatorade and Powerade because they properly replenish your electrolytes.

You know, if the woman would have died contesting for a 360 or PS3, Neb would most likely call that woman a dumbass.

I'd call her taste in video games idiotic. This though, is a massive shame. :(
