If this thread does well I might do more every now and then involving different situations. Basically imagine you're in the predicament I give you and I want your initial reaction. Sounds like a game but I think this could be better suited as a discussion really. But that's up to the mods I suppose. _______________________________________________________________________________________ What would you do or how would you react if you woke up in the middle of the night and you see a strange person standing by your bed? |

STAY HYPED!!!
|
Everyone has a "fight or flight" instinct inside them, meaning when you are unexpectedly startled you'll either go into attack mode or you will go into "flight" mode. I am not patting myself on the back, but I almost never go into flight mode when I'm startled. Most of the times, I have my fist balled up. So based on my past behavior, I think my first reaction would be jumping out of my bed in an "attack" position while asking who the person is...which could be a fatal move under the circumstances. |

The Man. Any Questions?
|
Unfortunately, my girlfriend would get killed, because she would flip out. On the other end, it would be over quickly, because I only need our invader to be distracted for less than two seconds for me to pluck the .45 from our headboard shelf, thumb the safety off, and end the ordeal. That isn't very long; if he doesn't finish her immediately, we'll both get out unscathed. It's odd that this thread got posted just now. I've got a very similar news report to post.... |

Am I the only one who thinks that pulling a trigger on a stranger standing next to your bed is a bit of an overreaction? Wouldn't you, you know, try to see who it is first? Granted, not many people wander into houses and stand next to people's bedsides, but I recall as a kid feeling a little sick, walking into my mum and dads room, about to poke my mum to tell her I was feeling sick when she saw me and jumped about ten feet into the air. I'm glad SRP ain't my mother, else I would have had my brains splattered against the mirror. |

I think the question indicates that it's someone you do not know. I would jump up and scream WTF! |

I've never been one to cower away from things so I imagine I'd react rather calmly. I probably wouldn't get violent unless it was one of my friends and they were about to stick their ass in my face. |

The Man. Any Questions?
|
There's no danger of that. If you're slinking around my house in the middle of the night, I do NOT know you. People you know don't break into your home in the middle of the night, which is exactly what they would have to do to end up at your bedside. So far, I've made it a long time without accidentally plugging Santa Claus. |

What if they were retarded? Eh? EH? (note: intentionally absurd example). Question: Are the laws in the US similar to that in Australia, where if you shoot a robber who's wandering around in your house posing no threat to life, you go to jail for murder? |

In some places, you have to lie there and die, no matter what they do. In others, you are allowed to defend yourself only if you are near death. In still others, it's open season on home invaders. There isn't a national law; each state has its own set of rules regarding home invasions. |

first, i have to say that i normally don't wake up at night unless i need to pee or a major racket wakes me up. i'm a pretty heavy sleeper, most of the time. with that said, if i woke up to see a moron in my house that shouldn't be there.....they'd get their ass kicked. that's provided that they're unarmed, of course. |
