STAY HYPED!!!

It should come as no surprise that I am a foodie. I watch more food programming than anyone I know. I cook at any chance I can get. And I plan on going back to college to get a culinary education so that I can set forth on a new culinary career. I have been scouting various culinary schools and have found an institute that I am interested in attending. I was looking over their basic outline, which reads as follows:
I think everyone can acknowledge the fact that it doesn't take much in the way of education to become a chef. There are a few basic things you need to know, but most of it comes from experience. The outlined education components do not really alarm me or anything, since most of it is pretty entry level. The culinary aspects are what you'd expect as are the general aspects. But there is one component that jumps off the screen: Public Speaking. I HATE public speaking. I don't see the purpose of taking the course unless you are going into a field where you'd be expected to speak to the public on a regular basis. I don't see that happening as a chef. Most chefs stay in the back of the house (in the kitchen) and never interact with the public in any way. Ugh! However, there is a small bit of hope on my part. I have a degree in accounting. When I went to college for that degree, I also had to take a public speaking class. I am hoping that the credits attained then will transfer to a culinary college. If not, then that is one class I am going to dread to no end. |
