Wow, it's been a crazy few weeks, Academic-wise. I'm not getting into school itself, but there's that whole thing called a "Future" that I have to look out for. Being a Junior in High School, nearly everybody is looking for me to step up my game and start making decisions about my life. I'm getting tons of letters in the mail from potental Colleges and Universities that I may be interested in. Currently, there's a stack of these sitting on my Computer Monitor, as well as a couple opened ones on my desk. Now, this being probably one of the more important decisions in my life, I have to take this extra seriously. I kinda maybe do know what I want to do with my life, but I don't know how to get there, and that's a pretty big short-term problem. Currently, I'm thinking about getting into the Creative Writing, or Computer area. Of course, most of you see my work in the SWF, but in School, i'm well-known for my ability to come up with creative, yet quality-infested writing. I've come up with creative Picture Prompts, Persuasive Essays, and hilarious scripts. (Paul Hogan endoursing a cleaning substance named Miracle Shine, to name one) I've also talked to my English teacher, who says that "I have a flare for this type of thing." On top of that, I also take two computer classes, both which i'm the most enriched. I type at least 80 words per minute, and am able to make quality letters, Excel Spreadsheets, and Power Point presentations in less time than it takes even the Teacher to do so. My Grades are also on my side. As of right now, I have gotten straight A's for the first two Marking Periods, and let me say that i've gotten more A+'s than A-'s. I've even also was supposed to go to a Gifted and Talented High School, but the Board of Education is out to get me, so that didn't happen. (but that's a story for another blog) This is certainly my best year ever in High School, or in any school period, which has opened my options up massively. As with everything, though, the issue is Money. My Parents aren't the richest in the world, and have absolutely no money saved up to contribute to College. Of course there's my Uncle, who quietly considers me the "Son he's never had," who might actually help me out. I know he has the money, but it might only take me so far. My last option would be a scholarship, which is certainly an option with the grades i've gotten, but of course, not all Colleges have those Scholarship dealies. I guess the MO for me first, would have to be "Get in first, then think about money later." Of course, money also may have to include a Dorm room, so going to a college too far out (like in Pennsylvania or Virginia; sorry, whoever sent me those letters) can't be an option. Well, I'm probably overthinking this, but the days aren't getting any longer until I have to make an important decision like this. Let's just hope that I can "Become the next Bill Gates" as my History Teacher Said. |

If there's one thing I've learned, its that universities that send you letters are all bummish in the first place. Aim hi, not for the shithouse colleges that have to scout for students. Word. |

You know, most colleges offer Financial Aid. After you are accepted, contact their main office and ask to be redirected to the financial aids office. You'll most likely be qualified for more federal aid (which you do not pay back) than you think. And if you do not get enough federal aid and still cannot afford the remaining tuition fees, then they'll help you get student loans (which you will have to pay back). Don't let the money issue discourage you. However, I will advise you to contact the financial aids department as soon as you get your acceptance letter. You don't want to contact them after the resource has been used up. They only have so much to give out each semester. After that, you'll have to get student loans which come with a very hefty interest rate. |
