Playstation 3 Price Drop!

Out for almost 9 months and the PS3 has gone down to $499.

There will be a 80GB coming out sometime in the fall that will include MotorStorm.

This is great, they will be easier to sell and get people to buy Best Buy Product Replacement Plans. Which are like $100

I'm still going to wait 3 more years until the price drops below $200.

They'd better drop the price (and they aren't the only ones).

It will be a cold day in Hell when I pay 600 bucks to play games. Forget that shit. People who buy these things have more damned money than sense.

I wish the PS3 was that low in Britain. What you pay there, we should pay half.

I heard about this earlier and then I heard the big price drop was $100. So, instead of $600 it's $500. Wow...I guess now I'll get 2.

Drop it $200-$300 more and I'll start thinking about it.

It's still not enough to make me desire a PS3 even in the smallest way.

The price could drop another three hundred dollars or so and I still wouldn't be interested as long as they continue to have a crap game library.

I wish to know who the bonehead executive was who decided to make it so outrageously expensive in the first place!

Oh, and by the way (for those who didn't believe me a while back)...

wikipedia

While figures vary wildly from source to source, in terms of total sales the Xbox 360 is currently in the lead followed by the rapidly encroaching Wii, and the PS3 in third place. According to NexGenWars.com the current numbers are 11.31 million Xbox 360's sold, 8.45 million Nintendo Wii's sold and 3.55 million Playstation 3's sold as of July 2007. All three consoles have had major shortages both at their launches and directly afterwards, with the Xbox 360's continuing for months after release and Wii's still continuing; the PlayStation 3 saw high demand for its first week of release, but it did not continue possibly due to a high price point and lack of software, now being in stock at most major retailers only 4 months after release.

According to G4, next week at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony will announce another price cut for the PS3. Here's hoping it's true.

What does it matter? You'd get the system and then what? Stare at it? There is very little reason to get the system, regardless of the price. Most of the games are shared with the 360 except for a few. And unless you're a die hard Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, or God of War fan that just can't live without the next incarnations, then there's very little reason to own one.

I'll just stick to my 360, thanks.

Wow, again! Even after the 80 gig just came out about a month ago?

People are going to buy it just to have a cheap blu-ray player.

The game selection is HORRIBLE, try selling these fucking things, I usually tell people just to buy a 360

What is the point in going to blu-ray anyway? I hear people talking about how much better it is or whatever, but it just means you'll have to spend more money for something that isn't as different than DVDs as people claim.

It's an unnecessary addition to the tech world.

Yeah, I don't get the point of having HD or Blu-Rays, I'm fine with watching them the old fashion way. Yeah the picture is more clearer and better, but still, I'm not going to dish out money for that.

I think there's a huge difference well worth the money in HD products. It really is a whole different experience when you watch a football game in HD. $500 isn't bad considering it is a blue ray dvd, game console, plus I can download all my songs to it and play them on my surround sound with out have to mess with anything else.

Throw in Devil May Cry and GTA and I'm sold. Way to go Kraul, you should work for Sony!

I fail to see the huge difference. I've seen HD with all the hookups and it's barely any different than regular TV. I think the difference is mostly mental.

Have you just seen shows on an HD television or have you seen a channel in HD on an HD television. There's a huge difference.

HD on an HDTV.

I don't really know what that picture is supposed to show or not seeing that everything is black and all. If it's supposed to show that the blackness behind that meteorite (or whatever it is) is darker, then it does. But it also doesn't show the stars...so that's not really that much better, especially since you really don't see the black like the regular TV unless you have your settings all screwed up.

One of the hotter rumors of the day is that Sony will make an announcement tomorrow for the on sale date of the American version of the 40GB PS3, which will retail for $399. The expected release date for this new machine is November 2, so it can hit the stores in time for the holidays. Now, all of this is good news, you will agree.

The bad news? Like the 40GB Euro version of the console, the American version will not be backward compitible. It will also lose a couple of USB slots and a memory card reader, which are debatably unimportant, but losing backward compatibility kinda sucks. Not that we would encourage any kind of accompanying flame war or anything like that.

I guess this is where the price drop rumor came from.

Backward compatibility is a big loss. For an extra $100 you get it and more.
