LOS ANGELES - The Force may soon be coming to a television near you. George Lucas is planning a live-action television series spinoff of the "Star Wars" film franchise. Lucas told The Los Angeles Times he has "just begun work" on the series, which will not include the films' major characters Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader.

"The Skywalkers aren't in it, and it's about minor characters," Lucas told the Times on Tuesday.

Lucas wouldn't reveal details, but joked that the series would be about "the life of robots."

Lucas, 63, already has another television series in the works. Lucasfilm Animation has been working for months on the computer-animated "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."

I love the animated series, but lost them all when my PC crashed.

I heard this was taking place between episodes 3 and 4. Now, if Lucas will put his name on it and just stay away and let some good writers do it, everything will be fine.

Yeah, I've heard a lot about the series. There's a lot of talk on Wookiepedia about it including rumors that Boba Fett may be a main character, along with an Extended Universe character - Quinlan Vos.

I can't wait.

I'm almost willing to bet that it is going to follow C3-PO and R2-D2 around the universe. The characters they interact with will be the ones that push the story.

I don't know how I'd feel about that.

I'm apparently the only Star Wars fan that doesn't really like Threepio or Artoo.

If they made appearences like Rod Sterling did in the original Twilight Zone series (at the beginning and at the end briefly), then I might be able to tolerate it.

I'd hate it. And, it's only a guess by me. I hate them both and find them annoying. I do know that according to IMDB Anthony Daniels, C3-PO, is attached to the project already.

I'd rather they just go with new characters.

I'm hoping they go through with the Quinlan and Boba thing.

Both are very popular characters in their own right, but aren't completely covered like Vader or Luke or Obi-Wan. There is still plenty of room to develop both.

And both are very interesting, especially Quinlan.

I'd also like to see an early Mara Jade going through her time as an Emperor's Hand. I don't care much for most of the characters that came after the prequels (in in-universe time), but Mara Jade is one that I have interest in.

In fact, she's the only character other than Thrawn that I find interesting at all after the movie's timeline. All the EU stuff with Anakin Solo and all of the characters that came from the Skywalker family doesn't do anything for me.

There were alot of talks about this a while ago, supposedly it was/is going to take place during the dark times to show what they didn't in IV on how the Empire became as powerful as it did.

Talks of characters that are in the books were said to be a part.

One particular is and is said to be Quinlan Vos who is said to be pretty popular.

I forgot to add a pic of who he looks like so here he is.

I'm not sure how I feel about using the characters that have been fleshed out in the books. You know that Lucas would change everything just to dick with people and make them more racist.

A live-action Star Wars series has been in development over at Lucasfilm for a couple of years now and it seems that fans will have to wait a few more before it becomes visualized on the small screen. If it happens at all. So says Lucasfilm insider-producer Rick McCallum, who updated the status of the possible series to Czech Position (via Bleeding Cool).

When asked by the website whether they would consider shooting it in the Czech capital, McCallum responded with "absolutely" before inserting some caution towards the fans.

"The TV series is on hold, but that has nothing to do with the Czech Republic; it has to do with [the episodes being] so ambitious. We have 50 hours of third-draft scripts, " says McCallum. "But the problem we have is there is a lot of digital animation; we don't have the technology yet to be able to do them at a price that is safe for television. Since we would be financing them, it would be suicide for us to do this [now]. So we are going to wait three or four years."

McCallum then says there's a possibility the show may never come to fruition given the climate of network television.

"Network television and cable television as we know it are completely imploding, so we're not really sure that in five years' time we can release a dramatic one-hour episode because it is all reality TV now."

He also confirmed previous reports about the possible plot concept:

"It takes place between episodes three and four, when Luke Skywalker was growing up as a teenager, but it has nothing to do with Luke... Basically, it is like 'The Godfather'; it's the Empire slowly building up its power base around the galaxy, what happens in Coruscant, which is the major capital, and it's [about] a group of underground bosses who live there and control drugs, prostitution."

With all the news about a new Star Wars film coming out in 2015, the rumbles of a TV Show had all but disappeared. ABC entertainment president Paul Lee told Entertainment Weekly that he is going to look into the possibility of bringing the long talked about series to TV.

“We’d love to do something with Lucasfilm, we’re not sure what yet,” Lee exclusively told EW. “We haven’t even sat down with them. We’re going to look at [the live-action series], we’re going to look at all of them, and see what’s right. We weren’t able to discuss this with them until [the acquisition] closed and it just closed. It’s definitely going to be part of the conversation.”

Some of the scripts, 50 in total, were written by Battlestar Galactica’s Ron Moore and were likened to HBO’s Game of Thrones. However, everyone with the project had been sworn to secrecy. So what was the series going to entail?

“Sources say the live-action series centers on the story of rival families struggling over the control of the seedy underside of the Star Wars universe and the people who live within the subterranean level and air shafts of the metropolis planet Coruscant (the Empire’s urban-sprawl-covered home planet). A bounty hunter may be the main character. Set between the original Star Wars film trilogy and the prequels, the time period allows for all sorts of potential appearances from classic figures from the Star Wars universe.” - according to EW

If Ron Moore is behind any Star Wars TV series, I'm all in. It will probably be better than the movies.

They've been saying the same thing, more or less, for at least four years now. It was originally supposed to be focused around Boba Fett and the fugitive Jedi Quinlan Vos.

In short, I'll believe it when I see it.

Edit: I didn't realize this thread was so old.

It's so weird seeing my posts from '07 when I used to be a huge Star Wars fan. Now I've forgotten most of the names and information and am more of a casual fan again. I blame their whole retconning of everything they had done during the Clone Wars era to have a clean slate for their current projects as the main reason why I stopped caring as much. The Clone Wars era was my favorite and then one day none of it matters or counts anymore, all so Anakin can have a kid sidekick and they can milk that era twice as much.

It's far past time they let the Skywalkers and the Clone Wars era go and move on. At least we'll get that with the new trilogy, apparently.

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
All I care about this tv show is that it better air on HBO or Showtime. By principle, I tend not to watch network drama series.

You say that only because you haven't seen a Wookie sex scene.

Once go hairy, you'll be praising Mother Mary.

Or something. I don't fucking know.

Wookie sex.
