It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!

I was originally thinking of putting the title's thread as simply "Rape"... but "Rape Of Honor" should draw enough attention, if possible. Recently, ROH tried some rape angle. While this is something that most likely you would expect from WWE or TNA, ROH dared to do it. They had Sweeney rape Allison Danger. You can read about it here, here and also here as well. Gabe apologized for this.
Should rape be used in the wrestling industry? Tough question... |

Yeah I read this a couple days ago and ROH isn't known for doing stuff like this but bigger companies due much more horrific angles than this. Still not really wanting to see it, especially from one of the few companies that has more of a wrestling aspect to it. |

I knew that this situation was going to be mentioned here sooner or later. As I was reading the live report, I was shocked when I was reading that "Sweeney commanded Dempsey to rape Danger". In all honesty and as much as I like him, Sweeney was really stupid to have said something along the lines of "go have sex with her", even if it was blantly meant to be a joke. All I can say is, thank God that I wasn't in attendence there because if I was, my dad would've probably never taken me back to a wrestling event. Really a disgusting tactic or thing to even bring up in front of a live crowd like that. ROH needs to get back to what it's best known for: wrestling. End of discussion. |

I was thinking though, they do have controversial angles, but not quite like this. The one with Jacobs being obsessive about Lacey so much that it drove him mad is pretty up there, along with the videos but still... |

Weird thing about it is that most people in attendance were cheering this segment. I would be like "WTF?" if I saw this live. |

Sweeney pushed Dempsey on top of her. That was it, as far as "attacking" went.

I personally think that every type of angle can be done if performed properly. Afterall, in many ways professional wrestling is like a play. It's like the gladiatorial games, Shakespeare (though usually very poorly written), and ballet all wrapped into one with a lot of influence from pop culture. And movies, television, music, video games and other forms of entertainment (such as plays) often feature stories on subjects such as rape (or incest, with WWE's current somewhat controversial angle) so why can't wrestling include these? The only reasons I could understand someone making a case for such dramatic angles being in wrestling is because they're often poorly written by people who should probably never write anything at all or they're turned into comedy angles (see: almost everything in WWE). I can't judge ROH's "rape angle" since I don't follow their storylines very well (since I can't see them regularly yet), but if it's well done then there is no reason why it shouldn't be used. If it offends people, then so be it. Professional wrestling isn't supposed to make everyone feel fuzzy and warm inside, you're supposed to get pissed at what half the people are doing. |

Stand Back! There's a Hurricane Coming Through

Basically, nothing happened.
There was no rape or rape angle. Sweeney said to do it and Dempsey refused. How reprehensible. I think Michael Cole getting molested by Heidenreich was worse than this. He falls on top of her and then Sweeney pushes down? How many times have HHH or some other wrestler fell into the crotch of a WWE diva in the ring? Anytime a man/woman gets knocked out there's a simulated 69. This is being blown up on purpose. They are using the word "rape" to get a stir going and it's working. |
