Heat On The Rock...

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
I'm surprised nobody touched this issue... really, if Johnson was just Johnson, the fans and everyone there would have bitched about him for not being simply "The Rock". On the other hand, being "The Rock" one more time had to go with his comedy lines and talking about the other wrestlers. I think this issue's kinda blown out of proportion...

A number of people in WWE weren't pleased with how Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson came off this past Saturday night. He did not leave a positive impression on a number of wrestlers at the Hall of Fame banquet.

Wade Keller of the Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter reports that Johnson did not hang out with old friends before and after his speech at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He showed up for the speech, delivered one that offended many in WWE and was believed to be too long, and then left. One of those people offended include one-time friend Steve Austin, who was openly displeased and taken aback by Johnson's demeanor.

Here is one wrestler's comments regarding Johnson's Hall of Fame speech: "This wasn't a roast. This was supposed to be a tribute to his dad and grandfather. Instead, he did an hour plus of comedy, running way long, then did a short tribute to his dad and grandfather, then left. It was rude of him."

There are several people within WWE who feel the Hall Of Fame should be an all-business affair and humor should be left aside. One source said that if it was his call to make, he would have fired Jerry Lawler on the spot for saying a few one-liners during his Hall of Fame speech last year.

WWE had plans to control the length of the Hall of Fame speeches, but the induction ceremony ran way over the planned length in large part due to Johnson's drawn out speech. Flair's Hall of Fame speech ran long as well, but everyone was forgiving of that considering that it was his night.

After the event, pretty much everyone backstage shared in their resentment and disappointment on Johnson's conduct at the Hall of Fame. The belief backstage was that Johnson had no reason to treat old friends like discards from a past life.

Johnson's speech went on first because he had to catch a plane immediately to Las Vegas, where they are filming his latest movie, Space Mountain. After he left, two individuals took shots at him during their Hall of Fame speeches. When praising John Cena, Ric Flair made a point to say that Cena, "Will never leave our business for Hollywood." Triple H mentioned, "Rock fans," and then said, "Oops, am I supposed to say Dwayne fans now?"

Others didn't take his antics so personally, and simply viewed it as Dwayne Johnson being "The Rock" one more time for his fans.

And now it's regarding Rock and Austin...

There is definitely some friction between Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and WWE right now, both with management and some top wrestlers. John Cena touched on the issue during an interview recently published in the UK Sun where he questioned why Rock couldn’t attend more WWE events.

Rock has rejected WWE’s invitations to several events since he left the company for Hollywood, and this doesn’t sit well with Cena, Vince McMahon, Triple H and Steve Austin just to name a few. These guys feel that Rock could domore to payback the company and the fans that helped him become a star.

There are also a number of people within the company who sympathize with Rock’s situation though, as he’s become a hot name in Hollywood and is being advised to distance himself from pro wrestling. Rock makes a ton more money with movies than he could with wrestling, and obviously wants to do what will take care of his family.

In Austin’s case, it’s said that he wishes he was in the physical condition to continue wrestling, so it’s hard for him to understand why a guy like Rock wouldn’t want to do more in wrestling. Austin’s lengthy list of injuries likely won’t allow him to wrestle another full-length match. Rock and Austin haven’t stayed in touch with each other over the last few years and there was reportedly some friction between the two at the Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday night.

Most of Rock’s defenders in WWE say that people are jealous of his success and are just hating on him, but seem to think that the situation with Austin is about much more than jealously. Austin is said to recognize the fact that Rock is doing great with his acting career, and that it could mean more opportunities for more wrestlers in Hollywood.

One source within WWE mentioned Rock returning to the ring at WrestleMania 25, but said that the chances of it happening are far less than 50/50 if for no other reson than his busy filming schedule.

STAY HYPED!!!
There was discussion about this somewhere. I remember reading it. It was probably in the WrestleMania thread.

I don't think the Rock should have heat for not attending WWE events if he doesn't want to. He's not contractually obligated to WWE, so why should he feel forced to attend anything? If WWE wants someone that will come at their beck-and-call, then they need to sign him to some type of contract. Otherwise, they need to recognize that it's his choice and WWE's own dip in popularity hurts Rock's popularity if he's seen mingling with wrestling too much.

Ditto.

And I love the "one wrestler said" type of stuff. Always have. I find it hilariously suspicious, but understandable.

I could tell when watching it that Austin didn't find it funny. BUT. I also wish I didn't have to watch such a shortened version of it. They jammed the whole thing into 1 hour. Booo.

Austin should get himself into shape. He's been looking a little chunky. The Rock should come back for an angle and a match pay off. I mean just put some time aside to do a quick angle in WWE. Doesn't have to last any longer then a month. I'm sure he can find the time.

For everyone besides Austin. THERE ALL JEALOUSE. Except Triple H. But I doubt Trips cares about it. Without The Rock barging in, Trips remains the top star.
