Poll's aimed at Americans but I guess everyone can vote so the result will probably be skewed.

Voting is compulsory in Australia, but apparently not so in America. If you were/are eligible to vote in the upcoming US Presidential election, would you?

Nope.

If I was to vote, I'd probably be voting for Obama anyway and I'm thinking he'll be winning anyway, so...the point?

I'm not going to anyway though because it's just pointless for me to. Any postivie changes that will possibly happen are minor to me anyway, so meh.

As long as my life doesn't turn to complete shit, I don't care for the most part.

A further question: Does anyone think that such apathy towards the system completely disqualifies those citizens from having an opinion on the matter?

If I were able to, yes I'd vote and that's the option I selected.

I've always had a problem with this.

I don't vote because I don't see any much coming from any of the outcomes. The candidates are always mostly unappealing and rather generic. The after effects of every election always feels pretty much the same.

Why should people have to vote for generic man #2 over generic man #1 just to have a valid opinion?

No good is coming from it and, if anything, it's bad because the person isn't voting because it's something they believe in but rather just because they're under social pressure.

I don't have an opinion on that either way (yet), but I can see how both sides work.

In terms of the view I put forth: Perhaps you can consider it like a flood, or something. If you don't sandbag your house then don't expect too much help when it becomes flooded. Citizens need to take action when it's demanded of them and can't rely on others to do it for them unless the situation demands it.

Or something, likesay.

But for me (and maybe some others like me), the politicans we're presented with are offering little more than a handful of sandbags, dig?

What I mean is that nothing real ever seems to happen regardless of the direction the polls go. On the whole, the differences (negatives and positives) are minor. I'd be willing to bet big money that regardless of who wins this year's presidential election, in four years time, the world (or at least the States) will be pretty much identical to how it is now. The only thing that may be much different is the status of the war and everything dealing with that.

Unless one reveals themselves as some kind of power hungry destructive force like some modern Hitler or something. But it'd already be too late anyway.

Basically, unless someone really offers up some real change rather than some minor tweaks, I'm not going to bother. It'd just be a waste of my time.

So you're saying that you don't vote because they probably won't do anything, but if they DO something then you'll sure as hell be angry/pleased about it, and reserve your right to (at that point) intervene!

I mean...it just seems a bit odd, is all.

I'm saying that I don't because nothing happens, at least not much.

I would only be interested in voting if I thought that maybe someone could make some real change, but that's probably something too big for one person anyway.

I'm mostly apathetic. The minor positives and the negatives will only minorly affect me opinion-wise as long as it doesn't personally seriously negatively affect my life.

In short: I just don't give a fuck.
