Michale Chiklis is that latest actor from the 'Fantastic Four' franchise to express reservations about the series. While talking to  to MTV Splash Page the actor, who played Ben Grimm a.k.a. The Thing in both movies, said the franchise sure looks like it's at least sleeping very, very soundly.

"No one's really given it the kibosh to me, but the silence has been deafening. The fact that no one's mentioned it or asked a question says that, more than likely, that's not going to happen," Chiklis said. "I know that both of them were tremendously successful from a box office standpoint, but we've all moved on into other areas and other films."

However the actor stopped short of declaring it dead.

"I wouldn't go with [co-star Chris Evans] and put a port-mortem on it because you just never know," Chiklis said, referring to the fact that the Human Torch actor has said he won't do another. "As long as a company has your signature in place and they have a right of first refusal, that right may be exercised."

If Vic Mackey says it, I believe it...or he'll beat me with a phone book. :shifty:

I didn't think the first two were cinematic masterpieces.

It didn't help that on my flight back to the states on R&R leave they showed it twice and on the way back to the desert they showed it twice again. The sequel that is.

Now it seems like it may happen...

Comic Book Movie's Pietro Filipponi has unleashed a series of articles purporting rumors about the Fantastic Four reboot. Filipponi has proven quite resourceful in digging up scoops from Warner Bros Green Lantern movie. If his sources at Fox are as solid then we have a lot of insights into the direction of this latest Marvel superhero reboot.

First Up, Filipponi reports that True Blood actor Stephen Moyer is the favorite to play Doctor Doom in the movie (although, frankly, if Fox is rebooting and using Doom again, we're calling "fail" right now).

The same report indicates that Adrian Brody is the heavy favorite to play Reed Richards and Alice Eve is the front-runner for the role of Sue Storm. Kevin Pennington, a beefcake type who has apparently only been seen in bit roles, is supposedly the favorite for Johnny Storm.

A second report indicates that the studio is after Bruce Willis to provide the voice of Ben Grimm aka The Thing. However Screenrant has their own version of the story and are claiming that Kiefer Sutherland is also in the mix for the voice role. Unlike the previous movies, which featured a disappointingly small and funny-looking version of the rocky muscle man, the new movie will depict the character in CGI.

Yet another report purports that three directors are currently in discussions for the movie. Filipponi claims that his sources say Joe Carnahan, David Yates and James McTeigue are in talks to helm the new feature.

Other potentially interesting bits of info:

* The Silver Surfer may also appear, along with "a bevvy of characters not yet seen on film".
* The movie will be filmed in 3D.
* Production is targeted for May 2011 for a summer 2012 release.
* The reboot will not trouble itself with an origin story but gloss over it in the credits sequence.

Fox needs to keep the Fantastic Four franchise going lest they cede the film rights back to Marvel/Disney. To do that they will have to get this movie going soon which means we'll find out very quickly if any of the above proves accurate.

I don't get this. If it's a reboot, why not Dr. Doom as the main villain? Is there anyone else that would work? Doom is the FF's most popular/well-known villain. It'd be like scoffing at a Batman movie featuring Joker or Spider-Man featuring Green Goblin. "What? Superman's main villain is going to be Lex Luthor? FAIL!"

Although I've never been a huge Fantastic Four fan, I'd be up for a reboot. I did see the first in the theater and have the second on DVD so...

It'd just be weird seeing different people play the parts, like it's going to be to see someone else play the roles in Spider-Man.

I think they called it a "fail" due to how poorly they handled Dr. Doom last time around, he was extremely underwhelming... well so was the whole film but still the point stands. Rise of the Silver Surfer was better in my opinion although the switching powers scenario was a bit hit and miss. I'm liking the idea of a reboot though, makes enough sense.

Chris Evans was debatably the only good thing about the first two films. I also liked the guy who played The Thing & The Silver Surfer but overall Chris Evans seemed to be the only person who fit the character. Alba was meh, Ioan Gruffudd is a great actor but was terribly miscast and thus was horrible in this film.

It won't be that weird as long as the castings is better. If the film is better you will completely forget about who played the characters last time around... my evidence for this... Hulk Vs. The Incredible Hulk :surrender:

I'm looking forward to this reboot and actually have quite high hopes for it :cena:

“Matthew Vaughn, writer and director of Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, will produce The Fantastic Four, Fox's upcoming reboot of the comic book-based film franchise, a studio spokesperson told TheWrap”.

Vaughn will only produce the film at this stage. He has yet to land his next directorial job. Vaughn has a great history with both Fox and Marvel as he directed X-Men First Class and is producing its sequel with Bryan Singer (X-Men) directing.

Entertainment Weekly (via SFX) is putting two and two together that the Fantastic Four and the X-Men could share a movie universe. The next incarnation of the Fantastic Four is slated for the overcrowded 2015. The new film will be directed by Chronicle’s Josh Trank. With all the speculation of a Superman/ Batman film and The Avengers racking in the big bucks, superhero crossover films are Hollywood’s obvious choice for giant paydays. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Fox, who owns the movie rights to both the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, will deliver a cross over film.

From EW: “A possible answer to that question comes from Mark Millar, the comic book writer (and creator of Kick-Ass) who has been working for Fox as a “creative consultant” since last year. In the new issue of SFX, Millar is asked whether the new Fantastic Four will share a universe with the X-Men, and says: “Without question I think you have to see some of these guys showing up in each other’s movies.” That might read as kind of a non-answer answer, but given that the hot new thing with superhero franchises is to A) pump them out every two years, andB) create intra-continuity crossovers as soon as possible, it’s plausible that the FF and the X-M will share the screen in just a few years. (Fox did not respond to EW’s email for comment, probably because any potential FF-X-Men movie depends on the financial success of two films released in May 2014 and March 2015, respectively).”

This makes a lot of sense. However, I immediately thought of a huge cast and too many characters. Then I remembered X-Men Days of Future Past which is essentially bringing two franchises together. If that film works, arriving May 2014, we will certainly see an X-Men vs Fantastic Four movie before the end of the decade.

I actually liked Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis in their respective roles from the first two movie. I'm indifferent about Caps Evans and Alba.

I'm surprised with how young they went with Richards in the upcoming movie.

I kinda have hopes for this movie, it's just a shame we'll never have Doom in the Marvel Cinematic universe.

Loki is a B+ player compared to Doom.

I like the looks of this movie and it may be good, but I don't see it as the Fantastic Four. Just seems like they are changing too much about the characters. Even the origin and Doom are seemingly different than the books. It may be a really good movie, but not a good interpretation of the comic.

For what it's worth, the movie is currently sitting at 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not very promising, indeed. I'm currently debating whether I should see the film in theaters or not. If I do, it'll probably end up being a last-minute decision.

14%! Wow... That being said though, that's only based on 12 reviews so far! Better to wait and see if it averages out a little higher when more reviewers have submitted their reviews.

Well, let's see, they miscast the entire movie and changed the entire story. Yeah, I'd say it's probably going to suck.

I haven't seen it yet, but from the reports it's a complete disaster.

Even though I wanted Doctor Doom in the Marvel cinematic universe (looks like that door has closed as far as the Avengers are concerend) I actually wanted this reboot to be a good movie.

It cannot be this hard to make a Fantastic Four movie and not have Doom look like some buster.
