Marvel Chief Kevin Feige told MTV Splash Page that he aims to get a big screen version of 'Doctor Strange' off the ground in the post-'Avengers' slate of Marvel movies.

"I'd say in the next year, year and a half, as we start putting together our film slate for 2012 and 2013, I would not be shocked if we saw Dr. Strange on those lists," Feige said. "I love the idea of taping into the magical realm of the Marvel Universe, which is fairly significant and hasn't yet seen life on screen. It's something I'm very, very interested in."

Although a favorite of many, Dr. Strange has had a tough time sustaining a regular comic series of late. Creators of no less significance than J. Michael Straczinski and Brian K. Vaughn have tried their hand at repositioning the Sorcerer Supreme for comics greatness and, on some level, failed. Recently Neil Gaiman has expressed interest in penning the script for a film version of the character, and 'Hobbit' director Guillermo del Toro has expressed interest in directing a Gaiman-written film.

It could be worthy. I've read some Strange comics when I was younger and I enjoyed the stories.

It's the only original idea left from Hollywood. Plus, they are making bank right now so all heroes are fair game.

Is Christian Bale opening the eye of Agamotto for Marvel in the near future? That's the latest rumor according to an unsourced article from an Aussie news site.

LiveNews reports that Bale is "said to be the number one choice" for the lead role in 'Dr. Strange' for Marvel. The report uses no on-record sources, so take this story with a massive grain of Vishanti enchanted salt.

According to the unnamed sources a deal is expected in "coming weeks."

The 'Dr. Strange' movie has received quite a bit of buzz in recent weeks, with Neil Gaiman stating that he's talked about collaborating with Guillermo del Toro on such a film. More recently Marvel cheif Kevin Feige has said he views 'Dr. Strange' as a top priority for the post-'Avengers' lineup.

If a heavyweight director like Guillermo del Toro does, in fact, become officially attached to the movie, then it's quite easy to see Bale wanting to take on the part. Of course, the project would then have to wait for the twin 'Hobbit films to clear, not to mention the dozen or so other movies del Toro is attached to.

It looks like Marvel is ready to further escalate its on-screen universe to cosmic levels. Twitchfilm reports that Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the screenwriting duo that Marvel hired to write a script for a DOCTOR STANGE film back in June of 2010, has turned in a draft. The studio has also reportedly generated a short list of directors and is sending the script out to each one on the list.

At this rate, we may see DOCTOR STRANGE on the silver screen as early as 2013. With the gears turning on the project over at Marvel, the Internet will undoubtedly begin speculating on who will star. Patrick Dempsey has already expressed interest in the role, but whether or not he will even be considered remains to be seen.

Strange vs Dempsey

A while ago a rumor surfaced that Patrick Dempsey was being looked at to star in an adaptation of Marvel's Dr Strange. Although that rumor seems to have been premature, it did reach Dempsey who is now showing great interest in the role and is actively perusing it. He tells Geoff Boucher all about it..

"I've been lobbying for [it]. There's a whole bunch of people [among the 'Grey's' crew] who are into comics and Marvel, too, on the set and they're like, 'Doctor Strange, that's the one you should do.' It would be fantastic. It'd be a great TV show, especially for HBO or something like that... HBO you're at 13 and I think that's much better. It's just so hard to sustain the quality after three years if you're doing 24, 25 episodes a year.

Dempsey also reveals that Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige is aware of his desire to play the character..

"He knows what's going on. There was stuff going on. At Comic-Con they were talking about me playing it and there was a rumor that I'd been cast. I mean, it's something that's kind of out there and, you know, I've been looking at that. It would be a fun one to do. Hopefully, doing something like Transformers is about to show myself in an action situation where I'm not mister-weepy-doctor guy, you know, not McDreamy.

You know, thinking about it, all you really need is a distinguished looking dark haired guy with a goatee and pretty much most guys could be cast as Dr. Strange and I'd be satisfied. Just keep Keanu away from it. I'm still pissed off about what he did to John Constantine!

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
I didn't mind Keanu Reeves as Constantine. But with the exception of a few movies, I find Reeves to be boring.

Wouldn't mind Dempsey for Dr. Strange.

In a recent Interview with Comic Book Movie.com, Stan Lee, confirmed the next slate of Marvel characters to get movies.

"Oh they are all being made into movies! I can tell you there will definitely be a Dr. Strange movie! They are working on Antman, which requires really small cameras! Black Panther is being developed, one of my favorites…the Inhumans…All the hero’s will eventually be made into movies”. said Lee.

Lee would go on to say: “I have very little control. I don’t see the script, occasionally I will have lunch with the director or a star, like the guy making Antman,I don’t remember his name- I don’t remember names, or Robert Downey Jr., for Ironman and we talk about the characters".

Stan the Man Lee also confirmed that he has very little to do with the films anymore, outside of cameos. However, Marvel Studios recognizes the reach and power his voice has. Take it has a rumor for now, but it is a safe bet that at least a Doctor Strange film is on the horizon for Marvel.

Marvel announced this weekend that the Master of Mysticism will join the Marvel Movie Universe. That’s right, in what will be Phrase 3 of Marvel Studio’s plan Doctor Strange will join Ant-Man in the next crop of movies.

Marvel’s uber producer Kevin Feige had this to say about the Doctor Strange project:

"Doctor Strange, which I've been talking about for years, is definitely one of them," he confirmed. "He's a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he's totally different from anything else we have, just like Guardians of the Galaxy. He's totally different from anything we've done before, as is Ant-Man, which keeps us excited."

Feige also had a few words about Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man:

"Ant-Man is definitely part of Phase Three. Like Iron Man 3, it’s certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it’s also through the lens of Edgar Wright — which is the only reason we’re making the movie… It’s very much an Ant-Man origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the MCU, but a different corner than we’ve seen before.”

During the press junket for The Incredible Hulk, I had the opportunity to ask Feige about who we would see in a Doctor Strange film. Fiege had this to say:

“I think Stephen Strange shares a quirkiness, a uniqueness with Tony Stark so I can think of a hand full of people to play Stephen Strange. What I love to do is ask you guys who you want to play role. We patrol the message boards all the time to see who the fans want in this particular role. I’ll tell you this, our movieshave two casting lists. One that comes from the casting director and our own ideas but the other is from the message boards about what people are buzzing about”

Kevin Feige had this to say:

“Dr. Strange is something that I talk about often and it’s sort of next up for us to dig into and explore. Our executive producer of Iron Man 3, having done Captain America: The First Avenger and as that was finishing he started working on the bones that would become Iron Man 3, and now that he’s finished with Iron Man 3, he’s working on the bones that would become Doctor Strange. Now that Iron Man 3 is finished, some of our quote-unquote spare time is going to be devoted to trying to crack Strange.”

Feige then revealed that Doctor Strange would follow Ant-Man:

“As we look past 2015, past Avengers 2 and Ant-Man, I think Dr. Strange should be one of the next movies in the years following that.”

Marvel may have found its Master of the Mystic Arts, according to a new rumor ... and that man is none other than superstar actor Johnny Depp.

Latino Review reports that Marvel and Depp recently took a meeting "to discuss taking on the role of Dr. Strange," a character who has long been rumored to be in line for a solo movie.

There's reason to buy into the rumor: Latino Review has a solid (but not spotless) track record with Marvel movie scoops, for one. For another, consider Depp's connection to Marvel's owners, Disney, the makers of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films that lined Depp's pockets with oh so much gold. And consider also Depp's own tastes and sensibilities, and how they align with the eccentric Stephen Strange.

Ten days ago, Jeff Sneider of The Wrap reported that Benedict Cumberbatch was in the mix for 'Dr. Stephen Strange' role in Marvel's upcoming film, Doctor Strange, and today, Deadline is reporting that Marvel has chosen Cumberbatch for the role. As of right now the actor is "final negotiations" which means he will more than likely sign on. Though, the same was said about Joaquin Phoenix just before the San Diego Comic-Con and he ended up passing. I'm sure Marvel wouldn't let that happen again.

Cumberbatch is currently garnering some major Oscar buzz for his performance as 'Alan Turing' in the biopic, The Imitation Game, but Doctor Strange, if is as successful as previous Marvel films, could finally make Cumberbatch a household name here in the States.

Doctor Strange will be directed by Sinister and Deliver Us From Evil director, Scott Derrickson. The script is currently being rewritten by Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts, based on the original script written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

The character from Marvel Comics, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, was an egotistical neurosurgeon that damages his hands during an accident. With the inability to be a surgeon any more Stephen is desperate for a cure and looks and hight and low. This hunt for a cure leads him to the magical and mystical elements of the Marvel universe, where he will later harness these powers to become the Sorcerer Supreme.

I'm fine with that.

I don't know anything about Dr Strange and what his story actually is and the trailer hasn't really helped with that... Does he essentially engage in some mysterious 'Eastern' training and then proceed to be able to enter different dimensions/worlds and alter their realities sort of inception-esque?? I'm going to have to watch a trailer breakdown or something to wrap my head around this...

Basically he was a rich surgeon that was in a car accident. The accident messed his hands up so he could not perform surgery again. He spends all his fortune trying to find a way to fix his hands with no luck. But in his travels he discovers the world of magic and turns to it. That's a very basic recap.

Ahhhh... After reading into the character some more and descriptions of other key characters it does sound rather interesting. That trailer really didn't sell me on it though. It felt a little Batman Begins with Inception added in... But maybe its just because I recently watched both
