MIAMI (Reuters) - A Florida teenager committed suicide by drug overdose in front of a webcam streaming live video to the Internet and some viewers may have egged him on, authorities said on Friday.

Abraham Biggs Jr., 19, was found in the bedroom of his home in Pembroke Pines, Florida, on Wednesday and an autopsy showed he died of a toxic combination of opiates and benzodiazepine, a drug used to treat anxiety and insomnia, the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office said.

"We have ruled it a suicide. Part of the terminal event was recorded on a website and there was streaming video," said Dr. Steve Cina, deputy chief medical examiner of Broward County.

A police spokesman said detectives were investigating the case but would not release any details.

Biggs had written blogs about his intentions and some of the viewers who were watching the event live may have goaded him on, Cina said.

"There is some indication of that, yes," he said.

In a purported suicide note posted by Miami television station WPLG on its website, Biggs said: "I hate myself and I hate living."

The note said he had "thought about and attempted suicide many times in the past."

The Miami Herald newspaper said another suicide in Broward County was broadcast live on the Internet a few years ago.

Last year, a 42-year-old man killed himself in front of a webcam in what was believed to be Britain's first suicide on the Internet. Viewers saw him climb onto a chair, tie a rope around a ceiling joist and hang himself.

:damn:

I hope they find out who pushed him in to it. Granted it comes down to that individual but still, when someone sounds that depressed, especially at 19 year olds, then whomever didn't stop him or try to should be just as guilty.

No-one takes anything seriously on the internet, and putting yourself on a forum talking about suicide is bating responses of both the positive and negative kind. A stupid thing to do on the part of the victim, and sadly the blame can only be placed on him imo.

That's not to say I don't feel sorry for the dude, and his family (I assume he has family. I have only glanced at the articles), and the people on the forum who must have thought it was a big joke only to find out what they've witnessed.

HEY WHERE'S SUGARPOP? LET'S GET HER BACK LOL!

If you smell wat im cooking. :P

It's a shame he couldn't get help, but sometimes there just isn't any way out of your depression.

At least he doesn't have to experience that now.

Quite true, Mr Kraul. Speaking of help, I've always thought that people who get angry with suiciders, or who insult them, are incredibly dumb and missing every point there ever was to get entirely.

They fail much more than suiciders.

I don't know if suiciders is the right word, but you know.

It's the attention seeking fake suicide attempts that annoy me... there are people out there that need help, we shouldn't have to help little Johnny who took three asprin to rid him of his plight

I seen this yesterday. Its crazy. What makes it more sick is that some people were urging him to it. Those people must be assamed of themselves. It shows you how bad the world has got and how bad the internet can be at times.

Exactly, so you can hardly fault them for telling him to do it.

Ready, watch this.

Hey Darren, kill yourself.

That's horrible what happened to him, though you can't expect much from anonymous people over the internet.

Thanks a lot Jimmy C, Darren hasn't been on all day.

(G4TV)
Abraham Briggs, Sr., the father of the 19-year old man that committed suicide and broadcasted it on Justin.tv, has called for better Internet regulation in the wake of his son's death. According to The Celebrity Cafe, Briggs said:

"I think after this incident and probably other incidents that have occurred in the past, they all point to some kind of regulation is necessary. I think it is wrong to have this happen for hours without any action being taken from the people in charge. Where were they all the time?"

While it's a terrible tragedy to lose a son and Briggs is obviously mourning, he also doesn't know what he's talking about. People are, unfortunately, going to use this tragedy to try to over-regulate the Internet and change its open nature. Personally, I don't think the Internet or Justin.tv is to blame. I understand that the father is shocked and trying to cope with his loss, but I believe he's wrong in blaming the web site and not accepting that his son was responsible for his own actions. What do you guys think?

I think that his son is not entirely responsible for his own actions, and only a dickhead sped would try to say that (where did you get the article from?). However, I don't think the people on that forum who were in total ignorance of the seriousness of that situation are to blame. How many people do you think joke about suicide on the internet per hour? Thousands?

You shouldn't ever give up on life, no matter how bad it gets.

Go to therapy or something.

Sometimes the facilities aren't there, when you're feeling shitty, you don't always tend to think talking about what's making you feel bad is going to fix it..

There's also the fact that when you're in that state, your mind is conditioned to think that taking your own life is the best option. You can hardly fault someone for going through with an action that seems like the best option to them.

Unless you have something against people taking the best option for them.
