SILVERADO CANYON, Calif., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- A California father says he discovered his 13-year-old daughter sent 484 text messages per day last month -- one message every 2 minutes of every waking hour.

Greg Hardesty of Silverado Canyon, Calif., told the New York Post his 440-page cell phone bill revealed his daughter Reina had sent an astonishing 14,528 text messages.

"First, I laughed. I thought, 'That's insane, that's impossible,'" said Hardesty, 45, a reporter for The Orange County Register. "And I immediately whipped out the calculator to see if it was humanly possible."

Hardesty said Reina had messaged a core of "four obsessive texters," all girls between the ages of 12 and 13. Luckily, he was on an unlimited text messaging plan or his bill would have been $2,905 at a rate of 20 cents per message, the Post reported.

Hardesty told the newspaper he and his ex-wife have placed restrictions on Reina's cellphone use, ruling she cannot text after dinner.

When it comes to texting, it appears Reina has much in common with a New Zealand teenager. It was reported last month that Hannah Brooke, 16, of Wellington frequently uses up the 6,000 messages she's allowed each month and borrows phones from friends to keep on texting.

Lucky there wasn't a fair usage policy on those free texts. That's a ridiculous amount of time texting

That's crazy.

It makes me wonder, what does she actually say to these friends when they're face-to-face? I imagine everything is already said. If she spends time with any of them, though, she's probably just texting the others during that time.

I doubt that I even send one-hundred texts a month. That girl needs to get a social life.

Mutha Fu**a I'm ill.
The most I've sent was 9,000+ a month I believe.

It was back when I didn't have unlimited or night minutes, but just unlimited texting. I had a girlfriend (that couldn't "Talk" past 11, but could text all night long.) I had a bunch of texts that went from, 'Wuzzup," and "How you doing." to all day conversations.

Also, it was during the summer which could give one a load of free time.

Not to mention, if your sending out short texts such as "lol" or "wtf" those count and add up all the time as well as the forwards you get/send. As some people send the forwards to their whole phone book sometimes.

That can easily add up to a lot of texting if you think about it. No need to freak out.

Not to mention if your constantly texting and its to 5-6 people or more, and your constantly typing out words, you get tied up and just keep sending and sending.

Why would you send anyone a text only consisting of "lol"? Wouldn't that kill the conversation

I generally send a few thousand a month, I just prefer to text rather than phone people. I'll quite easily have seperate conversations with several people throughout the whole day, it all adds up. 14,000 is just insane though.

My bill for last month tells me I sent 1,132 in total.
