Pwinsider.com is reporting that former NWA World Heavyweight champion and WWE Hall of Famer Jack Brisco has passed away this morning. He was 68. There aren't many details as of now, but Brisco did undergo a triple heart bypass several weeks ago and he was in a rehab center to recover. Briscoe was a former NWA Champion, and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame with brother Gerry in 2008.

On behalf of 411, I would like to offer our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Jack Brisco.

This really hit me by surprise when Raw started. I was online earlier that day, but never saw any reports of his death. Raw starts and I see that graphic. I was like, whoa! I liked the tribute video WWE aired for him, but wish they would have shown his stooge days. I bet more people know him better for being Mr. McMahon's stooge that went against Stone Cold than know him for being a wrestler from the 70s.

Ah, ok, so I was confusing the brothers. Maybe it's that you never really hear of Jack that I was so quick to think Gerry passed? Still sorry to hear of Jack passing, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that it isn't as big to me as if the Stooge brother would have passed. That probably sounds a bit in-compassionate.

Nah. I don't even know who Jack Brisco is other than by name, whereas if Gerald Brisco passed away it'd be dreadful news to me!

It's a bit odd that some "legend" who happens to be a relo of a road agent gets a video tribute whereas Umaga didn't even get a mention.

Dr. Death Steve Williams also got a nice tribute from WWE as well, and he only had the one short stint as J.R.'s body guard when he had that last medical attack. The difference between Williams, Brisco, and Umaga is that Williams and Brisco died of :quote: natural :quote: causes, whereas Umaga reportedly died of drug complications. As terrible as it sounds, WWE doesn't acknowledge Umaga's death because they don't want bad publicity should something come of that.

It's not what those guys did for WWE, it's what they did for wrestling. Although I don't doubt that some of the reason Umaga and Test weren't acknowledged was because of the circumstances surrounding their deaths, they also weren't "legends" in the name, especially Umaga.

I mean think back to when Crash Holly died in the same year Freddie Blasse died. Holly was barely acknowledged while Blasse had a nice video tribute done in his honor. WWE really only gives back as much as they gave to the company; Guerrero, Hart and Benoit got tribute shows because they were current wrestlers, those who were in WWE for a bit and had some success were given the screen in the beginning of the show, and the legends were given the screen and usually a tribute video. That's always how it has been.

Umaga was a main event wrestler for a good few years. I suggest that he'd have given far more to the WWE than Jack Brisco ever did.

Even if I did hate Umaga and did wish him dead on several occasions.

This was truly a sad thing to hear. I didn't know him as well as I did Gerald for obvious reasons (being around more) but never-the-less. Rest In Peace. :(
