Ring of Honor's 8th Anniversary show took place today at the Manhattan Center's Grand Ballroom in New York City. The main event of the show was the anticipated match between Tyler Black and ROH Champion Austin Aries.

Following several tweets on Twitter its seems as if the show was a good one.

Match Results

Roderick Strong def. Brian Kendrick

The Kings of Wrestling (Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero) def. The Bravado Brothers

Necro Butcher and Eddie Kingston def. Erick Stevens and Joey Ryan in a No Rules match

Davey Richards def. El Generico in a match ROH fan Matt Binder said to have been El Generico's best singles match in a while.

The Briscoes def. Dark City Fight Club to retain the ROH Tag Team Championships

Delirious def. Rasche Brown, Kenny King, and Steve Corino in a Four Corner Survival match which had King's No. 4 Pick Six spot up for risk.

Colt Cabana def. Kevin Steen via disqualification

Tyler Black def. Austin Aries to win his first ROH Championship. After the match, Black knocked out all three judges, including Jim Cornette.

I'm still not a fan of the title switch after Black had so many other opportunities in the past. I thought the momentum had passed and that when this match was made, the outcome was a foregone conclusion. However, the two men were said to have delivered. Congratulations to Tyler Black.

ROH will be returning to New York on May 8th to the Hammerstein Ballroom, bringing the Motor City Machine Guns along.

I think Whosey attended this show... wonder what he thought of this show.

Yeah, it definitely was a great show. The two best matches of the night were Richards/Generico and Black/Stevens. Although the spoilers are kind of wrong since the judges were knocked out before the finish if my memory is correct.

Also the main event was kind of surprising because I don't think it went over 20-25 minutes. I thought with the whole judge thing going, they would use that to actually serve as the deciders of the match, but instead, it was used (as said) to advance Black in some way.

Some other things:

Necro Butcher really is crazy. He began by hitting people with his shoe, which was a new one for me. On top of that, he actually took his freakin' sock off his foot and performed the mandible claw. It wasn't like Foley's, because this guy had the sock on his foot!

Also a pretty funny moment, I forgot who it was (it may have been Strong during the main event) but someone from the outside went on the apron and kicked someone inside the ring (assuming Black, because I forgot what match it took place during) and his shoe flew all the way into the second-level balcony of the venue.

Overall though, amazing atmosphere. I've been to Indy events before (about 6 years ago  ), but that was just nuts. My seat was great, I inadvertently bought a Colt Cabana shirt, and I actually got a good joke in when I made a one-time use of "That's disturbing!" when Ares was on the top rope bending down right in our view.

The best part though was meeting both Jim Cornette and Brian Kendrick. I got Kendrick to sign my autograph as "Spanky," and he even put this smiley face thingy next to it, something he didn't do to most others. So that felt good. Although it's amazing how small he is. If I put on a few pounds of muscle I'd be the exact same size as him.

Very good show, though. It definitely sold me on ROH.

EDIT: So I was reading the results on PWInsider and this I found really interesting:

TruTV's All Worked Up was filming ROH security chief Zach Yeager at the show for his role in their reality series

This was interesting to me because I actually had two encounters with this guy. The first was due to this fight right next to me, where he stopped it. I mean this one fan put another in a headlock and they were literally two feet away from me. I saw a camera crew with them, but I wasn't sure why. I joked that "this will be put on the DVD Extras." Then, after the show, me and my friend were waiting around to get a picture with this hot ROH girl, when the security guard started telling us to "get out." A camera crew was with him then as well, which was even weirder. So good to finally realize why the hell there was a camera crew filming all of the stupid stuff the guy was doing.

Congratulations to Tyler Black. Better late than never, I suppose. Glad to hear that you had a nice time, too, Andrew. From what I've heard, Brian Kendrick is a really cool guy.

I actually got to touch Black when he was hugging fans while going around ringside. It was pretty awkward because I had my hand out for him to hi-5 it but he went over to the people next to me and hugged them. So it was kind of like a good job-type of pat, and I'm sure it will look just as bad when I have to watch that weird moment of "should I touch him or not?" on DVD.
