It is the unfortunalte responsibility of Wrestling-Radio.com to report that former WWE and WCW star Chris Kanyon has passed away. Reports are that Kanyon committed suicide sometime last night. A longtime friend of his is saying that a pill bottle and "several notes" were found close to Kanyon's body, but details are very sketchy at this time.

During Kanyon's career, he worked as Mortis in WCW before reverting to his real name. He also worked in WWE as part of the "WCW/ECW Alliance" storyline. His run in WWE concluded after Kanyon revealed his homosexuality, and as a result, he appeared on the Howard Stern radio show several times. Kanyon also retired from the ring at one point, but had recently returned this year to work a couple of matches.

We at Wrestling-Radio.com would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Chris Kanyon. If you would like to share a memory of your own, please leave a comment below.

This is terrible news made worse by the fact that it was probably preventable (most suicides are). If he was showing signs of depressing and talking about suicide, then his friends should have showed a bit more concern for him and got him help. :(

Damn! I am lost for words as a huge fan of Kanyon I am saddened. He was very underrated I think and was never given a fair run after the fall of WCW. I always hoped that at some point we would have gotten a Hurricane vs Mortis match and feud I think it would have been very entertaining and would have given him a villain to battle. I will miss Kanyon cant believe he is gone it seems his mind was at battle and I hope that he can rest peacefully now.

I was never that big a fan of him, but I always found it entertaining when he would say "who betta?" and I would always respond with the obvious "everyone!"

But seriously, it always sucks when something like this happens. Most deaths are overdose related, but it just takes it to a whole different level when the death is suicide.

They always say that but those who really want to commit suicide , do commit suicide sooner or later.

Nothing could have been done. If not today he would committed it tomorrow.

That's the most insane thing I've ever heard. Of course something could have been done. Depression is a treatable condition.

No that is not wrong. but of course it depends on the person and the case at hand.

For some people is enough to know that other people care enough, and for some it is so deep that it does not matter.

They might act normal but sooner or later they pull the trigger. It goes away for a while but later comes back.

Anything less is wishful thinking.

And besides the facts and wishful thinking are different things. They all say how it is treatable but the hell man if you don't wan to treat it yourself no one around you is gonna be able to treat you. That is what we call psychological sickness.

They all say if someone prevented it and blah , blah. But sweet talking like that is only good in the after-match.

Anyone can talk but that does not mean the problem of suicides will be solved. Problem is you won't be able to reach to that person if you do not know that he/she is suicide ready.

Maybe it seems like a minor depression but that person might have been caring for years. You don't know that and thus you can't prevent it.

You can sweet talk all you want later on of course but that does not change the matter that the person is dead. :(

All I been hearing is people who say that is treatable and blah blah but so far that kind of talk has saved no one who really wanted to commit suicide.

Truth hurts but someone has to say it.

Major depression is treatable.

I never said it was not.

Was just saying that people are good at saying and "treating" other people when they are already dead and it's to late.

That's a pretty silly criticism given that many millions of people have depression, and 99% of them aren't dead from suicide.

I was talking about that 1% who are dead form suicide. :tu:

Besides there are different degrees of depression. :tu:

Well silly is the part that, that person is dead and there is nothing you can do about it now.

We are talking but does that bring that person to life?

The reason he never got another break is because he came out of the closet. Good luck Orlando Jordan. Sad to hear about Kanyon. RIP.

Interestingly enough, an article about Kanyon's death was in page 3 of the NY Daily News today. I think this had to do more with the fact that he was found dead in his Queens, NY apartment than anything, but it's weird because wrestling is almost never acknowledged in the paper.

i think it was more because he was pushing the gay thing so hard and even admitted it was to try to get attention from the wrestling world. it just backfired, is all.

Right, he was an openly gay wrestler that wanted to be openly gay on wrestling shows. It would get him attention, but in the backstage world and the locker room mentality that entails, he was he was basically black listed.

J.R. commented on Kanyon's death:

ProWrestling.net

-Ross on the death of Chris Kanyon: "Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Chris Kanyon who was found dead this weekend in his apartment in Queens, New York. The death is being investigated as a suicide as those close to Chris say that he has been battling depression for quite some time. Chris abruptly retired from wrestling and then also declared that he was a gay American which were both major developments in his life. I never knew Chris lead an alternative life style when he was with WWE for a few years not that it would have made any difference to me one way or another. Chris was an innovative wrestler who always sought new maneuvers and holds to utilize in his matches and was a really good teacher and helped many of today's stars with a variety of in ring techniques."

I think ProWrestling.net only takes snippets from J.R.'s blog, so you may want to check his full blog to see if he posted anymore.
