I've had a cavity in my tooth for a few years now. It's started out small, but, like cavities do, it eventually grew to the size of the grand canyon. I have dental insurance and I can afford to go to the dentist, but I had a really bad experience with a dentist when I was younger so I tend to afford the dentist at all cost. So I have this tooth with a bad cavity in it. Knew it would eventually get to the point where I'd have to go to the dentist, but I kept putting it off and putting it off. I've lived with the cavity for about 5 years now. It's a back tooth, not a smile tooth so it didn't bother me. I took a bag of mixed nuts & seeds to snack on while I worked yesterday. Bit into a big almond and my already cavity filled tooth broke even more. Started hurting me. Figured it was time to go to the dentist. I was going to put it off until Wednesday or Thursday since I'm off those days. So I came home and took some advil and put some Orajel on my tooth to sooth the pain. It worked. Then I went to sleep. When the tooth pain medicine wore off, my tooth started hurting so bad it woke me up. So I called the dentist and asked for their earliest appointment. It was that afternoon (Monday afternoon). I was hoping to just have it filled, but the dentist said it was beyond saving and recommended and extraction. Fine, whatever. So he gives me a shot of novocaine to numb my mouth. He starts pulling my tooth and I feel pain. I tell him and he gives me a second shot of novocaine. Starts pulling again, and I still feel pain. So he gives me a third shot of novocaine. By this point the entire left side of my face is numb. I was so numb, my eye was starting to close on its own. He finally pulls the tooth. He looks at the tooth and says that that particular tooth is only suppose to have 1 root. Mine had 2 fully grown roots and was growing a third root, which is why he had to stick me so many times. Damn. Still went to work last night, though. [/story] |
