Salvatore. His main character is a Dark Elf ( called a Drow) named Drizzt Do'Urden (pronounced drɪst douˈardin). Most Drow are evil creatures, but Drizzit favors friendship and peace over hatred and violence. His anti-stereotypical drow personality creates the conflict that most of the stories draw upon. He started writing the series in 1988 with The Crystal Shard (which was a ripoff of the Lord of the Rings) but the books have gotten better and better with every new novel. I was too tired (and a bit too removed from the series) to mention this earlier, but there are dragons, elves, and goblins in Harry Potter.
