 Oh god, I am not about to go into what, the third ARGUMENT you've had about a word in the past week?

OK IT WAS DEBATING. A PROMO IS A VIDEO PACKAGE. PEPPERONI ISN'T A SAUSAGE. YOUR E-PENIS IS THE GREATEST OF ALL. ALL HAIL NEB.

God...
Thanks. Heaven forbid someone use an internet forum for ARGUING something!

NOW LET'S GET BACK TO LISTING STUFF AND LEAVE IT AS THAT PLEASE!

dickwad.

That sentence is as factual as you can get. There is absolutely no way to argue against it or prove it untrue. Get over it already.

I WAS NEVER TRYING TO DISPROVE ANYONE! I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS!

I WAS MAKING THE POINT THAT EVERYONE JUMPING ON MY BACK LIKE A PACK OF RABID DOGS FOR USING THE WORD 'PROMO' WAS SILLY BECAUSE YOU CAN USE THE PROMO IN THAT CONTEXT.

Jesus Christ.

They were just trying to correct you when you pointed out DAWP's mistake. You started the insults ("It's not my fault DERP...um, DAWP rather, didn't bother to read any posts before posting his reply, your honour") and you fought over a vague use of a term that could have been avoided if you just added five letters and a space ("video ") You made this bigger than it needed to be.

Anyway...fuck this noise. This is so stupid.

Are there any video promos from other companies that are memorable? I'm trying to think of any TNA or WCW or...anything other than WWF ones that stand out and I can't think of a single memorable one. For that matter, I can't think of a single video at all - good or not. :-/

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
Since last year, TNA has those "Before The Bell" videos starting with last year's Bound For Glory event. Actually, those BTB videos hype the PPV much better than most of the Impact episodes.

Does that count, Satan? They're long, but they promote well the PPV. Otherwise, most of the beginning TNA PPV intro videos seem similar.

Wow, that's a good question. Did WCW ever use those types of videos? I can't recall one. I know ECW did to an extent (I THINK), but they were pretty low quality. I can't really think of a TNA one, but I'm sure if it did, it would have narrator. For the most part, I don't like those videos for matches that have a narrator. I love the videos wrestlers and people narrate to begin the show (like the Blassie WM XV intro which really is tremendous) but in my opinion it doesn't work well for matches.

I haven't seen the Before The Bell videos (I don't think, anyway) so I'm not sure if I'd personally count 'em.

And speaking of ECW, it's a shame they didn't have the WWF's money. ECW had some of the best promos (mic work) in wrestling history. Emotional, real, powerful...

Imagine how incredible their video packages would be if they had the kind of funds WWF had.

Look, dude, DAWP's mistake was that he didn't bother to read the thread. Even Kametsou admitted as much. My calling him DERP was funny! LOL! Derp!

And again, my use of the term wasn't vague, given that the second sentence of this thread etc etc etc.

Also, I'm sorry if you find "your honour" to be offensive.

Yeah, I know. All they had was Paul Heyman inside his mom's house doing the voice-overs with a cheap microphone while watching the video on his living room TV. And they still somehow managed to last a few years!

They actually did pretty good with those little hype video things where they'd show Joey Styles all in black and white and recap what's been happening, considering the whole "production level of a bored 15 year old" thing. Those things are still entertaining today.

Not quite the same thing as the videos in this thread, but it shows that if ECW would have tried to make 'em and had the money to, I bet they'd still be remembered and uploaded today.

Everyone has seen that one. I've always liked it because of the length of history it covers (succinctly). Plus I think it hyped the feud between them pretty well. Also, maybe, partly because of what followed.

I actually don't think I ever have. I was a casual WCW fan at the time.

It's an okay one, but I don't think they had really started to get as good as they would later get. That one is kind like the early steps.

I just don't get how WWE could seemingly forget how to make them stand out so much, though. It took them a year or two to get them into full on memorable and high quality, then after a few years of that it just all gets rather generic. Is the problem that the content of the show just isn't dramatic enough? Afterall, the videos started getting better as the show got grittier and more emotional and peaked during the remainder of the Attitude Era.

Or did WWE just run out of creative juice and/or motivation for them? They showed with the Undertaker/HBK one this year that they can still pull out some awesome ones, but they're so few and far between that it really makes me wonder why.

I just don't think some of the feuds are important enough to warrant a great video. I mean are you really going to have this dramatic-ass video with Cena and Sheamus that gets your blood pumping like the Michaels/Undertaker one? I think, especially today, you need a good story to work with in order to make a great video. Most of the best videos we saw (Austin/Rock, WM XV, the OTE '98 one, etc.) all had those great stories to go with it, something WWE doesn't have as much today.

The Man. Any Questions?
Here's one that doesn't fit as a "recap" type promo, but it was a one-sided vignette to hype the Hart-Austin match at the '96 Survivor Series.

That's probably mostly because most feuds today only last a month. The feuds that last longer only go at it for a month or two at a time then take a long time off and do it again.

Edge vs Orton for example. I'd say they have a long standing feud. But it only comes up every so often. Meanwhile Austin and McMahon lasted for months and months.

It's hard to feel a feud is epic today unless the people in it are already epic (like Undertaker vs HBK). :-/

Looking back, I just want to apologize to Nebuchanezzar for calling him a "moron". I often dish out insults like that on here when I get pissed off, so please don't take it personally. I really have nothing against anyone on here and consider you all to be friends of mine. Quite frankly, I should've read Neb's posts better before I posted anything at all. Got caught in the heat of the moment, I guess.

For whatever reason, I got really pissed off after reading Neb's post in response to MakeYourself85. I thought he was trying to justify that the word, "promo", was better associated with a promotional hype video as opposed to being a backstage interview. If you read my previous posts, you'll see where I was getting at. I understand that the word has two different meanings, but all I was trying to prove is that the more commonly associated definition to wrestling fans, as well as people inside of the business is an interview.

Apology accepted. Still friends? :D

Comrade Nebuchanezzar realises the common usage of the word promo - let there be no doubt, for he uses it in that sense all the time. Comrade Nebuchanezzar understands your point, and it is a valid one. Comrade Nebuchanezzar did not like being called a moron though. :(

Let us place this episode, and perhaps Satan's existence, behind us, and let us venture into the rising sun that is 6SW's future.

On a serious note, though, I will no longer be an active poster on 6SW come about two months. The last thing I want to do before leaving is making enemies.
