Twenty ten all the way. I wish more people said "twenty ____" for the years in this century because "two thousand _____" just sounds horrible. |

"Twenty ____" sounds cheap/annoying to me. |

Why? It's in the pattern that's been used for at least many, many decades up until the past one. Do you pronounce the year, let's say, 1994 as "nineteen hundred and ninety-four/nineteen hundred ninety four" or "one thousand nine hundred ninety four", or do you say "nineteen ninety-four"? And look ahead to the future. If you were to talk about the year...2135, are you going to say "twenty-one hundred thirty-five/twenty-one hundred and thirty-five" or "two-thousand one thirty-five", or are you going to say "twenty-one thirty-five"? I mean, any of those ways are accurate and work just fine, but "twenty ___" just seems more uniform to me. Seems kind of odd to go from "seventeen ___", "eighteen ___", "nineteen ___" then go to "two thousand ____", then wind up going to "twenty-one ____".

Ah, that pattern. For 1900's years, it sounded fine for me.For 1994, I'd say: Nineteen-Ninety-Four. It's easier. But really, I used to say most of the time "Ninety-four" ('94), just the last two digits. Easier. Once 2000 hit, I'd go for "two thousand ____". But saying "twenty-five" or "twenty-o-five" (2005) sounds kinda annoying to me. And for 21__, I'd doubt I would be alive by then, but I'd avoid the "hundred" part. I kinda regret to post on this topic. ![]() Either way, for spanish language, before 2000, I'd pronounce either the entire year or the last two digits (most likely). Since 2000, entire year. Fuck, I sound repetitive.

Nah, you wouldn't have to still be living. If you say the year 2135 right now, what do you say? And yeah, I can't wait until the 20s when people can just say the last two digits without it sounding weird again. Although it will sound weird, in a way, to say something like "back in '22" since I still think of the 20s as the 1920s.
For 01-09, I agree. Well, I wouldn't say annoying but more that it sounds very off. Saying "two thousand five" for example doesn't bother me much but once it hits 2010, it feels like that pronunciation kind of ran its course and starts becoming a bit unwieldy. ![]() Edited by Kraul, Jul 15 2010, 07:49 AM.

No love for "2K_"? Seriously, I know people that pronounce it as 2K10, which I find annoying. For me, I use "Twenty-Ten" and "Two Thousand Ten" interchangeably.

I use "two-thousand ten" in most of my conversations. I agree with MY, using "twenty" just sounds weird after saying "two thousand" for 10 years. But at the same time, saying "twenty hundred" would have sounded weird in the first place, so I think it was write to change the way it was said at the time it was. |

The only time 2K_ doesn't sound retarded is when it's on the end of a video game, specifically an EA Sports title. You should slap those people next time for being different.

I say "two thousand-ten". Though I'm fine with either saying, "twenty-ten" sounds too mainstream.

Seriously? That's all I ever hear from people, especially commercials. The only time I tend to hear "twenty ___" is from people in the scientific community. Makes me feel weird saying "twenty ___" sometimes because I hear so few people say it, but whatevs.
Yeah I guess I meant them; makes sense afterall, going under the "2k Sports" name. ![]() I wasn't thinking of the right covers and title at least. Who makes them just blurs together because I don't play any of those games so...it's all the same to me at a glance.

2K sucks. They've ruined the baseball franchise for the XBox. Actually they're not horrible, but come on, I hate monopolies in gaming. EA already killed the NASCAR series (a new NASCAR game hasn't been released in 2 years), while THQ is killing the WWE series (well not killing, but it would be better with a bigger set of games). Like I mentioned in the other thread, I loved MVP Baseball '04, which was an EA title. But that's when they had all the other baseball games to compete against. That's my rant for now...
