Stand Back! There's a Hurricane Coming Through
|
Since we seem to have people getting into the show and posting reviews, I thought I'd get in on the act! ![]() This weeks show starts out with Jim Cornette interviewing World Champion Tyler Black in the ring. Tyler is facing Christopher Daniels in the main event tonight in a non title match. Tyler's weakest point is his mic work. Plus he has that annoying lisp on his "S"'s. Tyler tells us that He appreciates the fans that support him and the fans that support other guys against him. But, what he hates are the people that come to RoH just to boo him. These people just want to get on their blogs and YouTube videos and hate. And those fans can kiss his ass. They don't respect him, so why should he respect them? Also, he is going to beat Daniels tonight and prove to everyone he is the best in the world. Match #1 Necro Butcher vs Rasheed Brown. These guys suck. Necro Butcher is the worst professional wrestle ever. He has no point. This is a no DQ match because Necro can't wrestle. The Embassy is at ringside and, except for Divari, they are worthless too. The match ends when the Embassy all jump in the ring and attack Brown. I know. It's no DQ but that causes the ref to call for the bell. The Dark City Fight Club make the save after a big brawl. I care nothing for any of these people and found the first match worthless. Christopher Daniels interview. He tells us that Tyler is all about respect, but he heard the interview earlier and Tyler did nothing but Disrespect the Fallen Angel. But, tonight, He will earn his respect. And, that's the gospel. They tell us next week we get Davey Richards vs Roderick Strong with the winner getting a World title shot. This leads us into a package that is basically Davey Richards telling us that he doesn't know what's up with Strong, but next week, Davey gets the title shot. Match #2 Colt Cabana vs Alex Anthony. Anthony weighs in at 172lbs. He doesn't look that big. Colt wins by submission. Match weas nothing special, but it was used to set up the aftermath. Kevin Steen comes down to the ring with a chair. Colt waits on him. Steve Corino sneaks in from the other side with a large chain and knocks Colt down. He then beings to choke Colt with the chain. El Generico makes the save. Interview with Truth Martini and Roderick Strong. Short because Strong is weak on the mic. Good move pairing him with Truth. He says he will beat Davey Richards. Main Event Christopher Daniels vs Tyler Black. This was a great match up. Worth watching by any wrestling fan. Goes to a time limit draw. Down comes Roderick Strong demanding his title shot. Down comes Davey Richards reminding Strong that He has to go through Richards first. Daniels grabs the mic and says that if anyone gets a title shot it's Daniels because he is the only man in the ring that Tyler Black has never pinned. The 3 argue and the show goes off the air. Daniels vs Black was great and some storylines are starting to pick up. Overall a decent episode. Still don't like the announce team. |

I'm not going to get in depth like Purps but here's some thoughts. Black in the ring talking about how he feels about the fans. This is probably my 3rd time watching this. His lisp is not as bad as Swaggers. Necro Butcher vs Rasheed BrownButchers Rules. Brown is in control at the beginning. I'm actually having a hard time watching this one. Both aren't good. Butcher is mostly a brawler and Brown just looks slow in the ring. Okay they both grab chairs and here comes Stevens and Davairi to beat Brown up. Most of the locker room comes out and a brawl breaks out. Brown the DCNC clear out the ring. This is the weakest form of The Embassy and are nowhere as good as they were. They need Rave back! Daniels interview talks about his match later on and says it's about pride and respect. Says he won't let him be treated like some common punk. Says' he'll take respect from him. Davey Ricards talks about his potential match of the year with Black. Says ROH is the best in the world. His match against Roderick. Colt Cabana vs Alex Anthony - Anthony I'm assuming is a jobber looknig like Little Richard and Sabu lol. Cabana is always entertaining. This is just a match for jokes. Damn that submission looks painful everytime I see it. Steen distracts Cabana by bringing out a chair, here comes Corino from behind and hits Cabana with some chains. He chokes him till Generico comes out with a chair to chase Steen and Corino out of the ring. Roderick with Truth interview (another) - Truth looks like a 70's reject. Strong just talks about his match against Richards next week. Fallen Angel vs Tyler Black - Daniels comes out in his TNA theme. I still prefer Disposable Teens but whatever. Fallen Angel chants. I just noticed Black is wearing a God Forbid shirt. Nice. Match started out slow but picked up soon enough. A good amount of back and forth action with both controlling the pace of the match for a bit. Daniels got some close calls to getting the 3 but it ended in time limit draw. Crowd just didn't seem that into the match except for certain parts. I enjoyed it and was probably one of the best all year from them that wasn't on dvd. Here comes Strong challenging Black. Here comes Richards pluggin in next weeks match and all of sudden Daniels gets on the mic and says he's the only one out of the 3 that hasn't been pinned. I smell a 3 way in the near future to determine who's the number one contender or perhaps a 4 corner elimination match for the belt itself at GBH 9. The Daniels/Black match was the only one I really wanted to watch but I sat through the show. It seems that ROH saves the better matches for shows that come out on dvd. Even though they had a nice main event on this one and sometimes, I think if this wasn't free, I wouldn't watch it. Edited by TheObserver, Aug 11 2010, 04:53 AM.

And here...we...go... I love me some Corny. Last time I did one of these with ROH, I mentioned how the ROH Tag belts looked a lot better on television than they did in the still photos. The ROH Championship is still really ugly, though. So this is the guy that's WWE bound, eh? He definitely has the look of a big time player but he sounds kind of weak on the mic. He reminds me of Bret Hart. What happened to Necro Butcher's hair? It's my belief that Necro is basically the Sandman of ROH. Weak kick by Rasche (sp?). That manager looks like the pimp that follows Snoop Dogg absolutely everywhere nowadays. Or maybe not, nevermind. I know what this match is missing: Randy 'The Ram' Robinson. Also: hardcore wrestling. I want to see Necro mat wrestle like I want to see New Jack mat wrestle (see: not at all). Vito-looking fan's moobs were shaking like a bowl of Jell-O there. Did The Embassy just do the exact same thing I saw them do on the last episode I saw two weeks ago? Daniels on the mic. This is still an odd sight to me after years of little focus on TNA. Nice promo. He definitely seems to be the best on the mic out of everyone I've seen so far. Davey Richards promo. Not bad. It feels like I'm watching a UFC promo, except for the generic white text on a black block things. WTF is up with those? Davey Richards looks kind of like Greg Brady. ![]() Ah, here's a guy I know...mostly. The Stevie Richards to CM Punk's Raven, Colt Cabana. Is this going to be a squash match? Hahaha "a cross between Little Richards and Sabu". I was thinking more along the lines of Sabu meets Sammie Davis, Jr.. Lol@the ref spot. Yeah, this is just some comedy squash. At least we're getting some laughs out a squash. But I hope this match doesn't last too long, it's already getting old. Cool submission move, match over. Steen looks like he doesn't want to hurt his hands with that chair. Wow, I would have never recognized Corino. Was that Kenny King? I haven't seen that dude since Tough Enough. Wow. I hope Haas & Benjamin can come up with a decent name before long. Hey, it's NASCAR guy and basement dweller again! :D And they go to Eric Young...wait, oh, I guess not. There's Disco Wonka. Roderick Strong doesn't come off as a wrestle, but more of some kind of frat boy. Not a fan of him so far. Main event already? It feels like I'm just watching the same episode from two weeks ago. Squash match? Check. Match where The Embassy runs out then leaves with the faces chasing them off? Check. A forgettable promo by Strong and a good promo by Daniels? Check. Daniels one-on-one in the main event? Check. Okay, this was episode number two I've seen of ROH on HDNet and I have to say that, for me, the reoccuring major problem is that I'm given very little reason to care about any of these people. It seems that other than the main event, there's little-to-no storyline progression. I recognize some feuds but I don't know why they're feuding or any concept of their history. The show also feels extremely formulaic. I almost feel like I could predict what's going to happen next, and this is only my second episode. Thirdly, none of the people on the show so far have the charisma as ROH people I've seen in the past. Nobody stands out to me like Danielson did, Nigel did, Punk did (in reviewing his old work with them), etc. I'm not saying that all of them are doomed to be nobodies because a few of them seem like they could be somebody someday - but that day isn't today. The person I liked most from this episode was Tyler Black, and he's on his way out. The person I liked most from the other episode I saw was Austin Aries - who apparently isn't that big a part of the show lately since he wasn't featured at all tonight (unless I missed it somehow). Everybody else I'm completely apathetic towards, with a slight interest in Daniels - but years of crap in TNA has pretty much killed off most of the Daniels fandom I once had. I think I'm going to give it one more episode. If it doesn't click by then, I'm out and the modern ROH just isn't for me. Edited by Kraul, Aug 13 2010, 12:24 AM.
