This just popped into my head as I was typing up the podcast thread: we obviously know of a good (some of us a really good) amount of wrestling fans online because, hey, they're incredibly easy to find. But how many of you knows wrestling fans offline? Are you kind of seemingly all alone in your wrestling fandom, or do you know fans? Are those fans of similar mindset as you (if you're here, you're probably a smark), or are they kind of on a different wave length? This is going to sound extremely elitist, although I don't intend it to, but I only know one person who is a wrestling fan comparable to me offline in this area. I can talk to him about most of the stuff I get enjoyment from in the wrestling world (mainly the creative and theatric end). Wrestling is what made us friends over a decade ago. But that friendship is rocky now, so the wrestling discussions are kind of rare. Other than that, everyone seems to be classified as either a.) non-fan b.) non-fan but slightly curious c.) fan but more of the mark-ish/innocent variety. You can't talk to A, which is fine; talking to B feels like you have to explain everything to them (which I love to talk about wrestling so I often am willing to); and C can be really hard to talk to depending on what kind of fan you are. There just simply aren't enough huge wrestling fans [in the open] anymore. At least not around here. I imagine it's much different in the northeast U.S..

I've always been a fan. Atleast for a long time though I may not know as much as others, I think I am pretty decent at what I post about. Most of the stuff I talk about just comes from years of watching and paying attention. I don't have the greatest of memories but for some things I just do. What's odd is that I remember alot more wrestling than movies I like. There have been times where I get so tired of the product that I just want to stop watching altogether but something just doesn't want me to. As much as politics has taken over while there are things that are beyond anyones control, I still just am drawn to it. Thanks Dad. When I was in the hospital for oh I don't know 3-4 months, I had no way of watching any wrestling so what I did was get my dvd player and watch my old dvds from SHIMMER to whatever. I really can't say what it is but at one time I had a desire to be or atleast train, even talking to Lance Storm via e-mail about joining his school which I mention when I thought I wouldn't be posting here anymore. A couple might have heard me talk about it before. Alot of my friends that use to watch just don't anymore because they I guess don't have time. Getting married and have kids and all that stuff. I have a friend that's big WWE guy along with his brother that I talk about this with. I'm actually going over there for Summerslam so yeah. Some are seemingly ashamed to wear wrestling shirts or whatever outside a wrestling venue cause maybe they are worried about what people think. I don't care, I still wear my Angle shirt from years ago when I go out sometimes. This whole thing can be in relation to where you live to, or just places this. I think I talk to more people on here about wrestling than anywhere. But we all come from different walks of life but the one common thing that we can all relate to is just wrestling. Whether we agree or disagree, it's all just an opinion anyways. |

Definitely. I've talked to more people in Salt Lake City that are hardcore wrestling fans (where they have several very small indy companies here and there, and a strong Juggalo count) than I ever have anywhere in the northwest. Here people seem to be heavily interested in college football and outdoors stuff (hunting, fishing, etc). I'll pass. On the wrestling shirts thing, that seems to be the way all around the globe. I'm tempted to say that the majority of wrestling fans seemed to be embarrassed by the idea of being seen in a wrestling shirt outside. I've always thought that was funny. I like wearing my wrestling shirts, partly because some of the people you'll meet will reveal themselves as a wrestling fan when they see you wearing one - like it's suddenly "safe".

None really. There used to be a couple at school before I left but by the last year that had just turned into ripping into Smackdown... There used to be this guy in school, must have been three years younger than me who would always wear a John Cena jacket. Problem was he was special needs and a not too bright which didn't help in anyway. I used to have a bWo t-shirt which was awesome. So right now there is none (as far as I know ) that live near me. Which is probably why I joined this forum

STAY HYPED!!!
|
There are 2 people at work that I talk to about wrestling. Both are big wrestling fans and watch Raw, Impact, and SmackDown! every week. We talk about each of the shows throughout the week, depending on when we work together. So, basically, it's like the Raw/Impact/SD! discussion only in person-to-person format. |

This actually happened to me once. I went down to Baltimore to go to an Orioles game, and wore my Colt Cabana shirt since I felt it would have been wrong of me to wear Yankees stuff (they weren't playing the Yankees that day). Outside the ballpark when I was just walking around, some guy noticed the shirt and was like "WOW, Colt Cabana, huh?" He went on to ask if I went to the show they held in that area recently, to which I replied "no". I then told him I went to the 8th anniversary show, and we continued to talk about how it's so much better than the WWE. My friend was just confused as hell the entire time. It was awesome though. ![]() As for friends in general, I have one friend I can talk wrestling with. This friend's brother is also a wrestling fan so I can talk to him too, but that's really it. I have other friends that are fans, but they're basically the "watch once every 6 months" group since we're not in the Attitude Era phase anymore. Oh yeah, I also have an older co-worker at work that I talk wrestling with. He's about as big an MMA guy as a wrestling fan, but he watches WWE and TNA regularly. |

The Man. Any Questions?
|
I don't know any anymore. My friends that used to watch wrestling don't do it anymore. The only person I know that still watches is my father, and I can't talk to him about it. He's too stubborn and ridiculous. I always get the "back in MY day..." speech, and it's loaded with bullshit. He seems to think people used to kill each other in the ring with guns and whatnot. I'm left going, "you lying old bastard". |

Basically like the "back in my day, when it was still real..." line. I've heard a lot of people's fathers say stuff like that. It, more or less, instantly invalidates anything they're about to say. I remember one time someone was trying to educate me on wrestling in a tone like that and then they tried to convince me that the Rock Bottom used to be called/was the same thing as a Fireman's Carry. I just kind of stared at him for a second, then the topic changed. ![]() Note: this was right after he challenged me and my friend to a two-on-one wrestling style shoot. We asked him if he was sure while I was standing behind him with my friend in front and he said yes. First thing I did? Drop to the ground and gave him a Chyna style low blow. Ding!
