Carrey played Riddler terribly, not true to how the character should be portrayed. Carrey is a good actor in serious roles though. Number 23 possibly the worst of a good handful of films. I think his first was The Majestic in which he was fantastic and it has become a favourite of mine. I don't think I need to toot the horns of The Truman Show or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Just fantastic films.

I watched The Yes Man (Which, incidentally, has absolutly no relationship with the book upon which it was based other than the concept that he had to say yes to everything... and saying yes to enlarging his penis.) a few days ago and he seems to have found a middle ground between the mad cap antics of his Ace Ventura and Mask days (Watch out for the Bar Fight scene in Yes man for this moment) and the serious moments and the outcome is a great film. Very funny but, in a strange way, believable.

I first thought he'd found this middle ground in Bruce Almighty. The enraged news broadcast at Niagra Falls and the way he gets used to his new powers provided the Carrey comedy we all know whereas the love story was befitting someone like Hugh Grant.

An interesting twist would be to allow Carrey to reprise the role of the Riddler, play it serious. Play it properly. I really think Carrey could do evil fantastically. He's not attempted it since The Cable Guy and that wasn't so much as evil as mentally ill and demented. That was a good film. Matthew Broderick made it bad. Don't judge Carrey on that character. I can see it working

I don't think we had an official movie thread for this but:

(G4TV)
Producer Michael Uslan has commented in a recent interview with a New Jersey paper, that the upcoming third installment of the current Batman franchise is estimated for a 2011 release. This would be consistent with the three-year window that existed between Batman Begins (2005) to The Dark Knight (2008).

When asked about the identity of the villain(s) of the upcoming film, Uslan replied "It's one of those deals where if I told you, I'd have to kill you." (At which point, he told the reporter, and then Uslan did indeed kill him. RIP: Courier Post Reporter.)

For those skeptical, Michael Uslan is a big Hollywood producer, and has been on board as a producer for every Batman film (both live-action and animated) since Tim Burton's 1989 revival of the franchise. He is also a noted expert on comic books and taught the first ever accredited college class on comic books at Indiana University. Needless to say, he has enough credibility for us to take him at his word.

2011, it is.

For many months after 'The Dark Knight', word from Warner Bros was that they would move forward with 'Batman 3' when director Christopher Nolan was satisfied that he had a compelling story idea for it. Now, as part of their Nolan/Superman report Deadline.com has provided a tiny grain of information about that sequel.

They are asserting that Nolan has "hatched an idea" for the bat-sequel and that brother/screenwriter Jonathan "Jonah" Nolan and David S. Goyer are working on a script from that concept.

That's not a lot of new info but it's a bit more assertive than the previous mention of work on 'Batman 3' from earlier in the week.

(E!Online)

Same bat channel, new bat time.

Warner Bros. isn't about to let little detals like no title, no production start date and no locked-down plot stop it from setting up a tentpole, as the studio today announced a July 20, 2012, release date for the third installment of the rebooted Batman franchise.

Christian Bale will be back in the cowl under the direction of Christopher Nolan.

Comic geeks, get ready.

How is your manifesto coming along?

Anyway, If they don't even have a script for this yet, I hope they don't just try to come up with some BS to just get a movie out.

In two separate reports, filmmaker Christopher Nolan and actor Michael Caine indicate that things may be coming together on the seemingly-inevitable Batman 3 movie.

Speaking with Empire Online, Nolan addressed a question that, for many, seemed a foregone conclusion.

"It’s becoming inevitable, I’ll put it that way," Nolan said when asked about the movie. "I feel myself falling into it, I guess. And getting it all figured out and I’m pretty excited about what we’re doing so… If I haven’t announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I’m doing it."

Not satisfied that Nolan had answered the question: Can fans assume that he's directing Batman 3?

"I think you can at this point, yes," was Nolan's reply.

Nolan has recently expressed that he's working on the script with brother and Dark Knight collaborator Jonathan.

Meanwhile Sir Michael Caine appeared on BBC Radio 1's The Chris Moyles Show this week, promoting his new autobiographical book "The Elephant to Hollywood". Superhero Hype reports that a portion of that segment turned to talk of the Bat-sequel.

"[Batman 3 will] probably start in May next year," Caine reportedly said. When asked if he'd return as Alfred Caine is quoted as saying, "I assume I'm there. In the movie business, you never believe anything, you assume."

He also deflected questions about the villain of the movie, saying the Nolan boys aren't telling anyone who that is.

Comic writer Mark Millar just hinted via Twitter that the Inception star may well be playing the cannibalistic Killer Croc in Chris Nolan's next Batman movie!
This will all depend on whether you believe a word out of Mark Millars's mouth, of course. But the connections are there and ripe for rumor picking. Firstly the controversial writer tweeted last week that he knew who the villains in Batman 3 were...

1) Oh, wait. Con gossip: I know who the villain(s) are in Batman 3 and the big scene outside Gotham sounds awesome. Totally timely locale.

2) One of the villains is from my favourite childhood run on the character. Again, very unexpected.

/Film followed this up with the suggestion that the villain may be Killer Croc, based on what Millar said and the news that Nolan would be filming in Louisiana. Swamp county!

Now, we have some, more to go on. Millar just tweeted:

Tom Hardy as Killer Croc? I like the sound of that. PS Superior #1 out today, but sold out in 4 hours. Thank you, fellow gingers.

So if, and its a big if, Millar does indeed know the identity of Batman 3's villain, its a safe bet we will be getting to see Tom hardy and Chris Nolan's undoubtedly real world take on one of Batman's most vicious and fantastical villains.

I'm not sure whether to believe this or not although I'm a big fan of Tom Hardy. He's been in some great films! Killer Croc in Batman 3 and The Lizard in the new Spiderman, must be the reptiles round in comic book films

Oh, man...there's gonna be so many jokes with this title. So many jokes. It's a weak title compared to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, though.

That sucks about the Riddler. I'm not too familiar with a lot of the villains that aren't so iconic in Batman, so if they go with another person like Ra's al Ghul, it'll probably fall flat in hype for me. I mean...I never really cared about Ra's al Ghul in the first movie. Scarecrow was the interesting villain in it, imo, not al Ghul. Most likely because I'm very familiar with Scarecrow and only vaguely familiar with al Ghul (...and I have a soft spot for Scarecrow :-/). Joker and Two-Face? Double dose of awesome. But if it's someone like the author of that article hopes for, Hugo Strange, then it's gonna fall flat for me.

I know absolutely nothing about Hugo Strange. I couldn't tell you one thing about the character. I don't know if they have powers or are just intelligent, big or small, black or white, old or young...no clue. So...eh.

Very happy about no 3D, though. It seems every franchise is trying to cash in on the latest 3D fad, so it's nice to see not everyone is trying to shoehorn their movies into it.

Name sucks. What villain he chooses is going to suck since he wants to "keep it real".

That's right, I'm passing judgement early.

Moviehole is reporting that the Warner Bros has stepped up casting efforts on Christopher Nolan's next Batman movie. Insiders claim that the studio and director are taking meetings with actresses in search of the female lead for the film.

According to the report, information is being meted out in a cautious manner and several of the women reading for the part aren't being told anything about it other than they're meeting with Nolan.

Details about the nature of the role are sketchy. Moviehole's insider "suspects" that they're reading for Catwoman, but admits he's uncertain as Nolan is carefully controlling the flow of information. The role could just as likely be another Rachel Dawes style love interest.

I really, really hope there isn't another love interest for Bruce/Batman in this series of movies - unless it's Catwoman and the tension they always have. Batman is not James Bond. He's supposed to be more concerned with being Batman than he is kissing on girls.

It's one of the main complaints I always had about the 90s Batman movies.

Yeah, I'm glad as well. I've never seen the appeal of 3D all that much...

I'm betting the title of the movie changes before it's release... "The Dark Knight Rises"... why is he rising, where is he rising from. He's has the publics attention for a while now surely he has risen already... unless they mean something more criptic :squint: Still, my moneys on they change the name before the release date.

It will be interesting to see who they have as the villain this time seeing as they've counted The Riddler out, probably Catwoman, I can't see them doing the Penguin although Bane could be a possibilty.

Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle, the slinky and savage outlaw who is known as Catwoman, in next year’s Christopher Nolan film “The Dark Knight Rises,” according to a press release from Warner Bros.

Tom Hardy, already announced as a cast member, will play Bane, the chemically created brute who first appeared in the comics in 1993 — making him a far “younger” villain for Nolan’s Batman mega-franchise, which has most prominently featured the Joker (who first appeared in 1940) , Two-Face (1942), Ras Al-Ghul (1971) and the Scarecrow (1941).

Catwoman — then just called “The Cat” – first appeared in 1940 as the creation of Bob Kane and Bill Finger, and she has brought leather-clad sexual tension to the Batman adventures both on the page and beyond; she was portrayed by Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt and Lee Meriwether on the 1960s television series starring Adam West as the caped crusader, and Michelle Pfeiffer memorably cracked the whip in the role opposite of the masked Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s 1992 film “Batman Returns.” In 2004, Halle Berry starred in the character’s own solo film, “Catwoman,” but the film became an infamous flop and was jeered by comic-book fans after director Pitof jettisoned years of comic-book lore and character touchstones.

Nolan, in the Warner press release, said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” Of Hardy, who worked with Nolan on “Inception,” the director said: “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with his brother, Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his wife and longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises” hits theaters on July 20, 2012.
