After burning through numerous film producers, director attachments and star attachments, and a constant stream of screenplays, the focus of DC Entertainment's Wonder Woman developments is now on the small screen.

The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed Blog says TV uber-producer David E. Kelley of Ally McBeal, Boston Legal and Boston Public fame is on board to write and produce a TV series based on DC Comics' Amazonian warrior.

At present there is no timeline for the production of the show. Warner Bros has declined to comment on the report.

Now that we know that David E. Kelley is shepherding DC Entertainment's Wonder Woman to her own TV series, it's time for the rumor-mill to start offering up lists of casting candidates and contenders.

The first comes from WhatsPlaying.com who claims that actress Tanit Phoenix is a name that "keeps coming up" among the production team for the show.

The actress recently appeared in Warner Bros. direct-to-video release Lost Boys: The Thirst and she certainly looks the part.

WhatsPlaying's unnamed source claims that Phoenix has met with "key members of the production team" and there is mutual interest. The insider claims that the actress will "definitely get a screen test" when the casting process begins in earnest.

The show will supposedly debut next year.

Now that NBC has committed to the Wonder Woman TV show, word comes that a favorite has emerged to direct the pilot of the series.

TV Line reports that McG (aka Joseph McGinty Nichol) is looking likely to get the job helming the initial installment of David E. Kelley's take on the most iconic female super hero of all time. The director is, of course, famous for launching the Charlie's Angels film franchise and more recently directed Terminator: Salvation. While fans may not favor his feature film work, McG has had greater success producing some popular TV fare, such as Human Target, Supernatural and Chuck to name a few.

It does not appear that McG will also join Kelley on this series as a producer.

And the Sundance Film Festival has offered up another wannabe for the lead role in the show. The lovely Lake Bell told E! Online that she's going to make a full-court press to get the role.

Posted Image

You've seen her is such TV shows as Boston Legal (another Kelley-produced series) and the weekly creature feature Surface (which C2F used to enjoy during it's brief run). Currently she's appearing in No Strings Attached but was at Sundance promoting Worst Enemy, a film she wrote and directed.

"On my lists of things to do in my life—I mean, I campaign for it—is, I just want to play a superhero at some point," said the athletic actress adding, "I got the guns! With superheroes you have to have this tickle of humor in there and you have to be a really great actor and also kick ass. And I'm fine with kicking a guy's ass. I'll be honest, I think I'd make a great Wonder Woman. So if anyone out there is listening..."

Lake Bell is NOT Wonder Woman...

While there was a lot of interest and hope in a Wonder Woman series, there have been a few hits to it as well that have made fans question it. While NBC continues to roll forward with the David E. Kelley version of the character, speculation has been growing about who would direct the pilot since it could set the stage for things to come rather well. McG has been considered a favorite for awhile, but Deadline is now reporting that it looks like Jeffrey Reiner is close to finishing the deal that will have him on board for it. Reiner has some solid credits behind him as he's done three pilots that went to full series (Trauma, The Event and Caprica) and he's worked as a director and co-exec producer on Friday Night Lights when the show started out on NBC as well.

The casting sheet for the Wonder Woman pilot has apparently been revealed, coming via MTV Splash Page ... The David E. Kelley production hasn't enamored fans so far with what little has been leaked out and talked about but there are some take-aways here that seem to be that it was rather spot on. Wonder Woman herself is set to be in her late twenties to early thirties and there's some potential for romantic issues to be involved as the piece for cop Ed Indelicato indicates.

Warner Bros. Pictures and NBC have traveled to their recent past by choosing a former NBC series star as their new "Wonder Woman." After a recent round of casting choices, the two producers have announced "Friday Night Lights" co-star Adrianne Palicki as the latest to don the outfit for their upcoming new pilot.

With the first episode set to be directed by Jeffrey Reiner---a frequent "Friday Night Lights" director---it gives some cohesion between the incoming new leading lady and the TV helmer. It's also a victory of sorts for Palicki, who was in the running to play the Amazonian heroine back when Warner Bros. Pictures wanted to take on a Justice League movie. David E. Kelley is writing and will executive produce.

The series pilot is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman – a/k/a Diana Prince – is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.

I like her and think she is hot, but I am not sure she is Wonder Woman.

Elizabeth Hurley is set to play a villain role opposite Adrianne Palicki's Wonder Woman in David E. Kelley's pilot for NBC.

The actress tweeted the news to her followers yesterday: "Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot Wonder Woman. I'll be playing the evil villain. Can't wait."

According to Entertainment Weekly, Hurley's character is Veronica Cale, a scientist who runs a pharmaceutical company manufacturing a drug that makes people stronger. She is building an army of super-strong humans to take down Wonder Woman.

Cary Elwes has joined the cast of NBC'S WONDER WOMAN pilot, according to Deadline.

Elwes will play Henry Detmer, CEO of Themyscira Industries and a close ally of Diana Prince who acts as a sort of uncle to her. He may develop into a love interest for her in the future.

Well, they are getting some big names to appear on the show. If the writing is good, this may have a chance.

Warner Bros. Television and NBC have revealed the official outfit for their upcoming TV reboot of "Wonder Woman." Check it out below courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, with lead star Adrianne Palicki wearing the tight-forming duds and sound off with your thoughts. The pilot was written by executive producer David E. Kelley. Bill D'Elia ("Boston Legal," "The Practice," NBC's "Harry’s Law") is also producing while Jeffrey Reiner ("The Event") is directing the first episode.

Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) and Cary Elwes (Saw, The Princess Bride) have joined the cast. Hurley’s character runs a pharmaceutical company that is creating a drug that makes people stronger while Elwes plays the CEO of Diana’s company, Themyscira Industries.

It looks like NBC heard the Internet uproar over the initial WONDER WOMAN costume for David E. Kelley's reboot of the classic DC character. Some adjustments have clearly been made to Adrianne Palicki's costume - most notably to the shininess of the material - which should, at the very least, help find middle ground between the iconic WONDER WOMAN look and the modernity the show is going for, if not placate skeptical fans.

What network would pass on picking up a TV series based on an iconic superhero after tons of public exposure? Well, it seems that NBC falls into that category, with the Hollywood Reporter passing along the peacock network has rejected "Wonder Woman." The surprising snub comes after countless set photos of Adrianne Palicki--the actress who was set to play the title character---entered the public conscious and became a source of water cooler discussion.

The trade reports that after lackluster buzz and a network screening that went poorly, the network made their decision.

It would have starred Palicki, Elizabeth Hurley, Tracie Thoms and Cary Elwes. Jeff Reiner (The Event) directed the pilot, based on a script by showrunner David E. Kelly.

Thoms, who would have played Wonder Woman/Diana Prince's best friend Etta, voiced her disappoinment on Twitter, saying, "I am very sad that NBC passed on Wonder Woman. But that just goes to show you: There is no such thing as a "sure thing" in this biz."

Now they are canceling shows before I can even watch them!!!

When the costume for David E. Kelley's ill-fated WONDER WOMAN pilot was revealed, critics and fans alike fired back harshly against the change to the Amazonian princess's iconic outfit. But now, we have a photo showing Adrianne Palicki in a costume that is far truer to the original. This is the costume that could have been.

There is still a chance that we may see Palicki don the classic shorts, as the pilot is being shopped around to other networks. For now, though, this photo is all we have to go on as we consider what went wrong at NBC.

Boom! Wonder Woman may be coming back to TV after all, but not in the way we've been used to seeing her on film. Barely a year after NBC opted against moving forward with David E. Kelley's reworking of the comic book icon, and just as the character is hooking up with the Man of Steel in the comics, Vulture hears that the CW, Warner Bros. TV, and DC Comics have found a new way to revive the legend of Diana of Themyscira. The plan this time: origin story, all the way.

Vulture's sources say the new take on the comic book crime fighter is being written by Allan Heinberg (Grey's Anatomy, The O.C.) under the working title Amazon. Unlike past TV incarnations, it will focus on Wonder Woman as a young, budding superhero, rather than a fully formed defender of liberty. (Think Smallville, but instead of a "no tights, no flights" rule, this show might have a "no bracelets, no crown" mandate.) Heinberg seems a logical candidate for the job: His resume includes work on the kinds of soapy dramas the CW favors as well as comic-geek street cred (he wrote the Young Avengers comic book series back in 2005).

It should be noted that CW is only developing a script at this point; no pilot production has been greenlit or even contractually guaranteed. (The network, along with WBTV and D.C., declined comment) But if a pilot is filmed, and a show gets ordered, it will be a major accomplishment for WBTV and D.C., since rebooting WW (outside of animation) has proven challenging in the three decades since the campy Wonder Woman TV series wrapped its three-year run on ABC and CBS in 1979. Most recently, there was the aforementioned Kelley take. It was pitched to various networks in the fall of 2010, apparently rejected by broadcasters, but then picked up by NBC in early 2011. After Kelley turned in his pilot, however, the Peacock made the decision to not move forward with a series. Likewise, Joss Whedon had long been attached to a film take on Wonder Woman. That never came to fruition, either, and Whedon is now busy with another comic franchise these days.

But Warners (which owns D.C.) seems determined. This past June, Variety reported, almost as an afterthought, that writer Michael Goldenberg was developing a new feature film centered around the Wonder Woman character. No details of that project have emerged and it's unclear if D.C. would proceed with a film revival if Amazon moved forward. (It's worth noting that Warners launched Superman Returns in theaters even as the origins-centric WB series Smallville continued on TV). If Amazon ultimately takes off, however, CW does seem the right environment for bringing back Wonder Woman: The network has a long history of successful sci-fi/superhero shows (it aired the last few seasons of WB import Smallville; Arrow launches this season) and its female-centric lineup seems a natural home for one of pop culture's leading feminist icons. As long as there's not a campy World War II subplot or any mention of Wonder Woman dolls, we're interested to see what develops.

To be fair, Smallville and Supernatural were created before the formation of the CW. And Nikita got lucky, though I read they're changing the format of the series somewhat.

I watched that NBC pilot and didn't care too much for the set up. I just hope the CW doesn't make this some sappy teen drama.
