-- WWE's Fatal 4-Way pay-per-view event has been renamed Capitol Punishment, according to the official website of Cineplex Odeon Theatres.

One one hand, good, because F4W was a pretty terrible concept to theme a PPV on.

On the other hand, bad, because Capitol Punishment is a terribly generic name. It sounds like something IWA Mid South would have called an event in 2002.

Wasn't that one of the choices when WWE opened it up to polls asking for PPV names?

New Midwest Wrestling, UWF, OVW all had cards/shows called Capitol Punishment.

The show is taking place in Washington, DC so I can see why WWE would change the name to fit the venue.

I like the name a lot better than "Fatal Four Way", I hate all these gimmick match PPV names they've been using. I'm glad they're moving away from that.

At least they won't have Robocop like WCW did. Think that was Capitol Combat, though.

It looks eerily similar to a logo I did for a fed a couple of years ago...

Wait, you can time travel? Clearly, it's the only explanation! You saw the logo and went back in time to give yourself the idea so that you could make that claim! :evilmonkey:

Is this PPV taking place in DC?

I think WWE is going to have to be careful with timing here. The name "Capitol Punishment" is an obviously play on, well, Capital Punishment. With the recent execution of Bin Laden, the U.S. seems generally in favor of Capital Punishment. But if the mood shifts before the PPV, then WWE is going to want to be careful in how they promote it. I mean, is it really PG to use a name so similar to the Death Penalty when we just shot a man in the head?

I bet the WWE is going to claim that ref is Justin King when the White House tries to tell them to take the Pres. off the poster.

Did anyone hear during the PPV last night how the announcers bragged about inviting the President, the members of his cabinet, and members of congress to the PPV? They bragged about it like having the ultimate political VIP guest list. Bet they stop all that talk when everyone either ignores them or flat out says no.

Why does WWE continue haing these once ever PPV's? Who's to say WWE will be at D.C this time next year when this PPV comes back around? This will be the one and only Capitol Punishment PPV.

I don't know, SummerSlam has been held in LA for the past two years, and they're going there again for this year's SummerSlam, so it's not too far-fetched to think the same could happen for Capitol Punishment.

I agree with the "one time PPV" thinking. I just don't see this PPV coming back next year. It's a poorly named PPV, for starters, and WWE isn't going to get much political attention like they are seeking. So it'll be scrapped and renamed.

About Capitol Punishment artwork

The cartoonist artwork portraying President Obama as a referee is intended to publicize WWE’s (World Wrestling Entertainment) pay-per-view event known as Capitol Punishment, which emanates from our Nation’s Capital on Sunday, June 19.

i like it. i have some other offensive, politically minded names the wwe can use;

live from fukushima: MELTDOWN MAYHEM or TSUNAMI TAKEDOWN
live from africa: FATAL FAMINE FOUR WAY
live from new york city: TERRORISM TUESDAY or GROUND ZERO
live from auschwitz: FINAL SOLUTION or CARNAGE AT THE CREMATORIUM

Meltdown would be a good PPV name. Ground Zero was used once, Sep '97.

Ground Zero would be awesome, but patriotic as hell. Every face would win their match.
