Alberto Del Rio comes out and says tonight is about Edge. Del Rio says it is his destiny to win the World Heavyweight Championship but not this way. He says Edge should just come out and present him with the belt. Teddy Long comes out and says it won't be going down like that. Long informs Del Rio he'll still fight in a Ladder Match at Extreme Rules for the belt but a new number one contender will be determined in a 20-man over-the-top battle royal later tonight.

Ezekiel Jackson b. Kofi Kingston w/The Corre on commentary. After the match, Jackson gets on the mic and says he is the personification of domination and after the battle royal he will be the number one contender and everyone will know including The Corre.

LayCool are shown talking to a therapist about being a team but Michelle McCool doesn't like it.

Cody Rhodes comes out and says beating Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania isn't enough. He says he is going to win the battle royal tonight and win the World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules. Winning the title will be the only gratification for his disfigurement and he will not stop until he disfigures Mysterio's face and gets vindication. Mysterio hits the ring and gives him a 619.

WWE airs the Awesome Kong vignette.

Rey Mysterio b. Drew McIntyre after hitting the 619.

Backstage, Edge is getting an ovation from the Smackdown locker room. Edge and Kane shake hands.

Edge comes out and gives a recap of his career. He says he is going to miss all of it. "Thank you" chants fill the arena. Edge says he wants to do his intro one more time. He's pumped now and talking about how great the WWE doctors are and says he's taking his girl and going surfing. Edge is happy he got to say goodbye in Albany because it's the place where he won his first championship. In fact it was in a cab in Albany where Edge came up with the nickname Edge. He introduces his mother who is sitting in the front row and thanks her for all her support. To him his title has meant everything to him but the belt is not his. Edge says every fan holds a piece of it as he relinquishes the belt. Edge says it's been a heck of a ride concluding another emotional shoot of a speech.

Backstage, Alberto Del Rio interrupts Edge. Del Rio extends his hand but Edge stares him down. Del Rio smiles as Edge walks away.

Kelly Kelly vs. Layla. Layla tries to do their entrance but Michelle McCool goes straight to the ring. Kelly wins via roll-up. McCool comes in the ring and shoves Layla across the ring and leaves.

They air a video package of WWE superstars commenting on The Undertaker vs. Triple H from Wrestlemania.

20-Man Battle Royal to face Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Ladder Match at Extreme Rules. Participants include Big Show, Chris Masters, JTG, Yoshi Tatsu, Trent Barreta, Heath Slater, Ezekiel Jackson, Chavo Guerrero, Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, Tyler Reks, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes, Curt Hawkins, Christian, Jack Swagger, Rey Mysterio, Brodus Clay and Kane. Justin Gabriel is eliminated by Barrett. Final four are Christian, Jack Swagger, Justin Gabriel and Rey Mysterio. Mysterio eliminates Gabriel then sets Swagger up for the 619. Michael Cole interferes and takes the 619 for Swagger. Swagger eliminates Mysterio. Christian eliminates Swagger to win the match. After the match, Edge comes out and celebrates with him. Edge and Christian pose in the ring as the entire locker room clears out to applaud them on the ramp.

Quote:

After Smackdown went off the air, Triple H came out and hugged Edge in the middle of the ring. The entire roster continued to applaud as Edge got on the mic to thanks everyone. He said one say he can't wait to thank everyone one day at the WWE Hall of Fame if he's lucky enough. Edge thanked the writers, catering, Kane (who he said was one of his best friends, Vince McMahon and Lita. He said most importantly he'd like to thank Christian who is his best friend for life.

I'm totally watching the show on Friday if I don't forget. I don't usually care about the show but in my opinion when something like this happens you HAVE to support the wrestler and the product. This guy is retiring after a decade of incredible moments so it's only fair to pay him that respect by watching.

It's the only reason why i'm watching it as well. Man i love Edge. His music has always gotten me excited when it hits. I remember The Elimination Chamber last year, my mates and i said "If Edge wins, we'er going out on the town". Edge was eliminated from the first Chamber, so we were pretty dissapointed...but then he comes in and steals i think it was Kofi's spot for the second Chamber match and wins it. Holy shit that was a big drunken night. Thanks Edge!

Gonna make the obvious call here and say that Christian gets his first WWE World title win at Bragging rights.

Though, having Del Rio win the title because the "crybaby quitter's best friend couldn't handle him" would get him some serious heat...

I'm in two minds. I really want Christian to get a title reign, but Del Rio's reign is overdue. I'll be equally happy and sad at the result of the match.

Overdue? He hasn't even been in the wwe for one year. Don't get me wrong, Alberto has been improving along the way, but Christian deserves this far more than he does and I'm pretty sure wwe's going to give him this title run riding off Edge's retirement.

And the split up of Nexus officially becomes a failure. Woid Barraaaahhht has been taking the worst of it though. He went from a believable main event guy to just some guy.

Nobody cares about the mid card belts anymore. Especially not on Smackdown.

Other than the fact that Wade Barrett wears the IC Title, has he ever done anything with the belt? I'm drawing a blank, but has he even had a single's match since winning the belt? I had high hopes when Barrett was given the Belt, since I thought maybe he could be a strong IC Champion. But it seems he's just another belt holder that will be forgotten after he drops the belt. It's a shame too, because Wade was on the verge of being a main eventer just 6 months ago.

Del Rio has been the hottest thing on Smackdown since he made his debut in a time when there was no interesting storylines happening on that show. He should have, in a perfect world, been given the title as soon as he was built up as a threat to it, and definitely should have won at Mania.

Christian, as much as I love the guy, has been gone for 6 months due to injury, and before the injury he hadn't done anything notable since ECW folded.

One year or not, he has clearly done more than Christian to deserve it. That said, based on the fact that Christian is now the top face on Smackdown (bar Rey Mysterio), that Edge has retired, and he has a wealth of experience, he probably will get the title before ADR. Which I think is a shame really, because if I was booking it I'd have ADR win and Christian chase it until SummerSlam where he finally achieves it.

Del Rio has been the most pushed guy on Smackdown, but far from the hottest. The WWE is trying to make him a huge success as a heel but is falling quite short. Most people comment on him being boring and his segments being lackluster.

Basic wrestling booking is have the face chase the heel. I suspect that Del Rio will win the title and Christian will chase.

Who would you say has been "hotter" than Alberto Del Rio then? In terms of heat I can only really think of Vickie Guerrero when she was on Smackdown.

On Smackdown Edge, Christian, Rey Mysterio, Undertaker, Cody Rhodes were all a hotter, more popular wrestler/act. They tried to make Del Rio hot by pairing him against Rey, Edge/Christian, but he seemed more overshadowed than anything else. Look at the WM feud with Edge. It wasn't until Christian got thrust into the mix that anyone even cared about it.

With Edge gone, there should be a power vacuum for the vacant main event spot. I know they're wanting to push ADR (and Christian sort of fell into his current position), but he's only as good as the face he's feuding with; Same is said for the face. Christian and ADR should patch the bleeding temporarily, but I expect a few big names from Raw (read: Punk) to be drafted to Smackdown.

I would be fine with that personally. New Nexus has been a disaster and who else can Punk face as a top heel over on Raw anyway? Plus, it would give me more reason to watch Smackdown.

Del Rio has been the most pushed wrestler on SD! since he made his debut, but he hasn't exactly been hot with the crowd. Remember when he won the Royal Rumble and the audience just sat there making absolutely no noise? That was a horrible moment, which is why WWE has never replayed it. As pointed out, it took Christian getting involved for anyone to even care about the World Title scene.

That said, I don't expect WWE to give Christian a Title run just because Edge retired. WWE did that for Rey when Eddie died, but I don't think it's going to happen here. I expect Del Rio to walk out World Champion, have a lackluster reign, and finally drop it to either Undertaker, an eventual returning Jericho, or whomever WWE decides to move to SD! during the draft.

I'm just watching it now and I'm actually kind of surprised but really happy that they let Edge's comments go to air unedited, including when he thanked the writers. That was a really nice touch.
