There has been a lot of talk within WWE that CM Punk’s career with the company may be coming to an end soon. Word is that Punk has not re-signed a new deal and that’s the reason he’s been downplayed as of late. If you notice Punk getting pushed out of nowhere, that probably means he’s re-signed. The topic of Punk leaving WWE started on the European tour and continued at RAW last night.

Apparently Punk has also been telling people close to him that he’s interested in taking some time off. We hope to have more later.

Not sure how new this information is but it was in a new article today so I thought I'd post it.

Edit: A bit more info...

According to WWE sources, Punk has been offered a new long-term deal but has balked at signing, citing burnout with being on the road for years and unhappiness with his position in the company over the last year.

As one source pointed out, Punk has been something of an "Iron Man" for the company, working full-time on the road with the exception of his hip injury needing to be rehabbed last year. At the same time, despite delivering with whatever was handed to him creatively, Punk has watched as other talents developed since he debuted ended up pushed as bigger names and treated as more important than Punk, including Miz and Alberto Del Rio.

"When you look at how the company brands it's characters, Punk is never among the top 5-8 names that are promoted or pushed," said the WWE office source. "It's Cena, Orton, Miz, Undertaker, Rey, now Alberto, etc. these days and Punk is sort of floating right under there. He didn't fit into the youth drive a few months back but he's not treated like a top veteran either. He's just there, doing his job and while everyone knows he delivers, he's never really treated like someone who does. He's never dropped the ball but we don't give it to him really, either. He's treated like a guy, but not THE guy. For a driven guy like him who's made wrestling his entire world, it's got to drive him crazy. Now, the excuse will be don't push Punk because he might be leaving, but the reality is the environment and situation is what is probably making him want to leave to begin with. Either it gets fixed or it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, just like it did when Batista walked out."

As is the norm with such situations, a new deal could be struck at any point, but as more and more sources discuss Punk leaving the company as a distinct possibility, time will tell. We'll have more when we get it.

STAY HYPED!!!
What website did you get this from?

I think WWE treats Punk a lot like they have always treated Jericho. Both are good workers that WWE never really made their number 1 guy (except for Jericho's last run with the company). Both are someone WWE can easily place in the main event and have no one question it. Both are guys WWE woudl rather keep down the card until they need someone to fill a vacant spot. You can but any belt on either and it'll fit.

If Punk just wants to take a break from the company, it could maybe improve his standings. The old "you don't know what you've got until it's gone" thing. Jericho got a great push after taking time off. Don't know if it'd work for Punk.

But, really, I'm not reading anything into this just yet. We see similar stories pop up whenever big name contracts start running out and they usually resign. I expect Punk to resign.

Yeah, the Jericho comparison makes sense but I guess from a booking standpoint these types of guys are very useful when they find themselves tricky booking situations or in a situation where they're struggling for talent. Oh and I got the info from wrestling edge.

As we initially reported last night in the PWInsider.com Elite section, former WWE World champion CM Punk has not signed a new WWE deal and there's been a lot of talk that Punk is looking to exit the company when his deal expires in a few months.

Internally, that possibility has been discussed for some time but during the European tour, discussion of Punk's exit came more and more to the forefront.

In an update to an earlier report concerning CM Punk's future with the WWE, I have learned that a major issue in the negotiations of CM Punk re-signing with the company is the trademark of his name.

As of now, Vince McMahon and the WWE don't own the name CM Punk. They would like him to sign over the rights to the name which appears to be a hold up in a quick agreement between both sides to continue working together long term.

It appears that CM Punk would like to remain with the WWE but wants to be sure he looks out for himself. As one source told me, "Punk knows that WWE is the secure place for him to be at this point in his career but is a smart business man."

CM Punk is one of the few wrestlers who was well established on the independent circuit and kept his ring name when being signed by the WWE. It is common the WWE gives the performer a name change so they do have ownership and rights to their WWE identity. Bryan Danielson's name being changed to Daniel Bryan is a recent example.

WrestleZone has learned exclusively that WWE creative team members are 'In the dark" as to CM Punk's future in the promotion.

"There are some members of the team who want to pitch Punk beating Cena for the title, and then defending it against him at SummerSlam, which is deja vu when it comes to the Punk vs Jeff Hardy situation when Jeff was leaving WWE," a key WWE insider told us this evening.

"There are other members of the team who are under the impression that Punk is leaving after the PPV, and even more who think Punk will show up on Raw the next night in an angle to completely write him out of the script," our source told us.

"One thing is for sure," we were told. "Right now, it's a state of confusion."

The Man. Any Questions?
I find it hard to believe a Vince McMahon-employed staff doesn't even know the contract status of a fucking performer. When did Ted Turner buy WWE?

Colt Cabana, who was namechecked during the CM Punk promo on Monday, was interviewed by The Miami Herald on the Punk promo and more.

In regard to Punk, Cabana commented:

"From being laughed at by the trainers in Ohio Valley Wrestling to Paul [Heyman] finally bringing him up and everybody treating him like dirt, telling him he has an attitude problem and calling him the ‘King of the Indies,’. Just looking down on him, he just felt shunned his whole time there. It was a complete struggle."

“The power of him not really caring because he was ready to leave — I always said the power of not giving a s--- is so important. He is really at the point where he just wants to get out of there. It’s too frustrating for him. If he said anything that made anybody mad, what are they going to do to him? Not re-sign him? He doesn’t want to be there.

“So I think that idea is so powerful. He is so strong in his beliefs with the straight edge lifestyle. By being how strong headed that he is, he was able to have the power to go out on television and say what probably every other wrestler has wanted to say. He made unbelievable television. He made unbelievable history in wrestling.

“He almost has the ability to change professional wrestling as we know it. It has been so stagnant and vanilla. It kind of shook up the wrestling world because of his real life frustrations.”

CM Punk and Colt Cabana were on the Abe Kanan Sirius/XM radio show yesterday. I didn't get to hear all of it, but what I did hear was like his GQ interview times ten. Some of what I did hear:

He has not re-signed. The extent of his renegotiation thus far has been - Why don't you re-sign for 5 years? No.

Up until a few years ago he REALLY did not get along with Randy Orton to the point of almost coming to blows with him.

The Rock doesn't deserve the spot at WM.

WWE offered him a good role in a non-WWE horror film and he turned it down.

For 5 years running he has had more matches than anyone in the company.

You can listen to The Abe Kanan Show, broadcasting live from Chicago every Saturday from 5:00PM to 7:00PM (EST), exclusively on SiriusXM Howard 101.
