I don't know how to explain this with correct terminology, but hopefully I won't say it in a confusing way. You know when you are flipping through the channels on your TV to go from your normal TV channel to your game channel? Do you have more than one game channel when you are flipping through?

I'm not going to play a "Let's Play" blog for Super Mario World, so I'll just comment here.

We had this game when I was a kid, so I played it a lot, but I never really played the game...if that makes any sense. I had never started a file and played the entire game throughout. I would just go into my brother or cousin's file and play around on the levels. If I couldn't beat a level, it wouldn't matter since I could just go to any other. But now, I am really playing the game.

And I must say I am finding some of these levels to be very challenging. I'm collecting 15 or 20 lives and using them all on the same level, spending an hour maybe two playing the same level over and over. I don't know if I'm just bad at the game or if it's average for people to take time to learn the levels like this.

Currently, I am stuck in the "Special" area of the Star Road. I literally, and am not lying or exaggerating at all, played this level for an hour and a half this morning. I went through at least 40 lives, maybe as much as 50. I do know I played the first time with 5 lives lost, played again with 15 lives and lost, played again with 20 lives and lost, and lost all the extra lives I got for getting 100 coins. And I'm still stuck on the level. Haven't beat it.

The bad part is -- and this makes me feel like an absolute fool that shouldn't ever be playing a game -- I came online and looked on Youtube and there are loads of videos where people are beating this level with just 1 life in under a minute. THE FUCK! :witsend:

This player makes it look so easy. But it's not! I can write a list of things that are challenging about this level. Although, I don't know why this guy has different enemies. He must have hacked or had a different version. I have flying turtles and those plants coming out of my pipes.

Another video that makes it look easy as hell. I haven't ever tried it this way. I wonder if you have to have a blue Yoshi or if the green Yoshi will fly too. :ponder:

They might using a tool that helps them beat the level with ease.

Maybe. Or maybe they just had A LOT of practice. I mean, I could play some of my favorite games like a pro, but only because I've played so many times.

I finally beat Tubular. It only took about 20 more lives, maybe less. I tried it with the blue Yoshi a few times, but still didn't beat it. Finally, I just got lucky with the P balloons and beat it.

I've just downloaded Super Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario Brothers 2: The Lost Worlds -- which is a Japanese only release, I believe.

So I'm playing Super Mario Bros 3 on Wii VC and realize that there are no save points. Even when you beat a world, you don't get to save. I remember it being like this on the original NES, but I thought they'd add saving ability on the VC. I mean, why wouldn't they!

That's the whole point of the old NES games. They only take a couple hours, at MOST. If you could save, where the fuck's the challenge?!

If you can't beat SMB3 without saving, you seriously suck.

NES games didn't have save points because they didn't have enough memory at the time. Which is why when SNES came out, save points became common practice. I'm glad they released the game as was and didn't try to upgrade the graphics or anything, but they should have added save points to the game. Even if it was just saving after each world. If I don't have a couple of hours to sit and play a game completely, then I shouldn't have to start from the very beginning the next time I do have time to play.

Although, to be fair you can just hit the "home" button before you exit the game and it acts as a make-shift save point. The next time you start the game, you start right where you stopped. Of course, this is a temporary save. You have to hit the "home" button again the next time you stop or else you start over completely.

Hey guys who keep their Wii connected to the Internet, let's be friends :)

My Wii is named Xero.
I just got my LAN adapter today, so I'm online now, but I'm not sure how I'd go about adding anybody yet. :-/

My name is Oatseeder anyway.

Turn on your Wii.

Click on the Wii Message Board button, located on the bottom right corner of the main menu. This is the icon that resembles a small envelope.

Click on the Create Message button, located on the bottom left corner of the page. This is the icon that resembles a sheet of paper with a pencil over it.

Click on the Address Book to the right side of the screen. Your address book should open to the first page. You should see your Wii's console number displayed here as a 16 digit number (e.g. 9999 9999 9999 9999).

Alternatively, you can click on the small arrow to the left side of the screen to flip to the cover page.
Write down this number. Give this number to your friend.

Oh well, in that case, I'm 1039-2573-1024-6068 if anybody is interested. I'm pretty sure that's right. I was just recalling off the top of my head.

There's no dangers of putting your number online like there is with credit card numbers or anything, is there? :-/

I don't know what Okami is. How far along are you? Is this your first time playing? More details, friend. :)

Yeah, this is my first time. I picked up the game the other day. Umm...I'm not too far past the battle with the dark creature that released the first light creature after beating it in the springs just off from the village. I have a feeling that I'm not too far into the game and I have a long way to go yet.

But yeah, I'm still a wolf, which is what I was referring to when I mentioned Okami, where you also play as a wolf. Not to mention that in Okami a darkness has taken over a village and you fight dark creatures. You also have a tiny little sidekick riding your back that is also a bit bossy and arrogant in character.

Ah, yes, then you are still very early into the game. You haven't even made it to the first Temple/Dudgeon yet. :)

You play as a wolf a lot in this game. Eventually, you'll get to the point where you can change from wolf to human whenever you want. I won't spoil the game too much for you, though, since I don't know how much you already know or how much you want to find out on your own. But I will give a piece of advice. You play almost every level as a wolf and human. If you keep that in mind, then you'll notice some things the first time you play, then remember some of that stuff when you go back and play the same area again, but everything is completely different.

Also, I'm playing the game for the first time as well. I made a thread about it in my blog. Maybe you've read it? Seen it?

Yeah, I know about your blog and I have skimmed through it, but I didn't want to read too far into it since getting the game. I'm just kind of just enjoying exploring around at the moment and would probably look something up if I was REALLY stuck.

I did see your tough break with the save file though.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, officially purchased! :wings:

I've been looking for a copy of this for over a month now, maybe even 2 months now. I've gone to my local Game Stop a few times with no luck. One time I went, they actually just sold a copy of the game literally right before I walked in the door. Pissed me off. I even asked a friend from work who has an E-Bay account if he'd see if he could find one on Ebay. Unfortunately, the cheap ones sold quick and most of the ones he did find were up in price (over $200). I've been keeping an eye on the Game Stop website with no luck. But I just checked and they had it in stock! So I quickly made an order. Wind Waker should be delivered to me in about a week. The site said they need 2 days to process and 3-5 days to ship, so about a week. Once again, I must :wings:

I did not purchase a controller or a memory card yet. I'll hold off until I actually have Wind Waker in my hand before then.

As hard as this game was to find, I won't actually be happy until I put it in my Wii and see it's working. Of course, then I'll have to find a controller and a memory card. Hopefully, those will be in stock at my local Game Stop and I won't have to wait another week to get them from online.

Oh, I KNEW not to get too excited. And my suspicions are correct because either I'm an idiot that doesn't know what I'm doing or I got a bad disc. I put the disc in and a "GameCube" image loads in the top left of my Wii channels. It doesn't say "Zelda: Wind Waker". It just says "Game Cube". I press this channel with my Wii Remote and get a message about my disc not being read or something. It also tells me to refer to my Gamecube guide.

I don't yet have a Gamecube controller. Are you required to have one plugged in for the game to actually load? Am I doing something wrong? Or, as I fear, do I have a bad game disc?

I know I need a controller to actually play the game. But shouldn't the game load without a controller plugged in? I'm asking for the simple fact that I don't want to go out and buy a controller if my game isn't even working.

You need a Gamecube controller regardless of whichever game it is and whether or not it works.

So there is no way to know whether I have a working game or a bad disc unless I have a gamecube controller? :-/
