BURN IT DOOOWWNNNNNNNN!
LOP

SmackDown, Airing Friday:

* World Champion Christian comes out to open the show. He talks about winning at Extreme Rules and out comes Mark Henry then Randy Orton and The Great Khali wanting title shots. Teddy Long comes out and lets the fans vote and they choose Christian vs. Orton.

* The Great Khali is backstage talking to Jinder Mahal.

* Sheamus defeats Daniel Bryan.

* We see Layla backstage with the Divas.

* Cody Rhodes comes out for an in-ring segment and his employees pass out more paper bags to the fans.

* Ezekiel Jackson beat Big Show with help from The Corre. Kane was also taken out by Corre members.

* Layla beat Alicia Fox. Kharma came down and hit the Implant Buster on Alicia.

* More problems between The Corre backstage.

* Sin Cara defeated Tyson Kidd with Chavo Guerrero on commentary.

* Backstage segment with Teddy Long talking about the main event.

* Randy Orton beat Christian to become the new World Heavyweight Champion in what was described as a great match. Orton celebrated after the win.

Honestly, not surprising.

See, I knew it! I knew it! I just absolutely knew it! Just as soon as I read the spoilers, I mean immediately as I was reading them I just KNEW that this was going to be the thing that turned you into a Randy Orton fan. Who cares that Christian has worked his ass for some 12 or 13 years to finally get to wear the World Heavyweight title. Who cares how much luck and good timing it took for him to finally get that World Title. Who cares if he only had it a day. None of that matters, right? It's that Randy Orton got the belt on his first available opportunity. And now you are a true Orton fan. I knew you would be. My friend! :)

If anyone was letting their hopes build that this was going to be Christian's chance to prove WWE wrong and show that he deserves to be a World Champion, I think you can let those hopes go. They didn't even let him hold the belt the 3 weeks until the next PPPV. They took the belt off him on the very first available chance. I've read a few people getting their hopes up that this is going to lead to a heel turn for Christian and he'll be challenging Orton as a heel. Maybe he'll challenge, but I think it's obvious that WWE has zero interest in Christian being World Champion.

I think now is as good as time as any to take my annual break from WWE.

It's not the Christian thing that set me off, it's just bugging me that WWE is so hellbent on maintaining their status quo. Fact of the matter is, guys like Morrison or Kofi won't get any good pushes while they're on the same brand as Cena and Mysterio. Same goes for Christian being on SD with Orton. I'll probably still be active on here, but i'm taking a break from WWE.

As many of you may now know, the top story on the internet today is the fact that Randy Orton defeated Christian at the Smackdown taping last night to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

After speaking to several key WWE insiders, WrestleZone can now provide details behind why WWE decided to book this major title change just days after Christian won the title at Extreme Rules.

To begin with, as we exclusively reported several days ago, Randy Orton is set to become the focal point of the Smackdown brand, and the entire Friday night show will be centered around him from both a marketing and creative standpoint. Orton's position on Smackdown can be compared to John Cena's position on Raw, as WWE looks at both talents as the creative centers of their respective brands.

Additionally, we were told that Christian's title win at Extreme Rules was done not so much as a "well deserved win for Christian," but much more so that a big moment could be made for Edge at the PPV. "Vince [McMahon] could smell, touch and taste a moment between Edge and Christian celebrating on PPV, and that's the major reason why Christian was awarded the title." This dispels any conspiracy theories that Christian was awarded the title to keep it on Smackdown, as we were told it would have been very easy for WWE to throw a third party into the Extreme Rules match which would have kept the title off Christian and still on Smackdown.

As to the question of why WWE stripped Christian of the title so shortly after his win at Extreme Rules, WZ was told that no one in WWE with any kind of influence values Christian as a top money draw for the company. Christian is well liked, and is considered, as we were told, "a reliable hand," but when it comes to being a top player in WWE, Vince McMahon has absolutely no faith in him.

Brian Gewirtz, who is the head writer on Raw, and also oversees the entire writing staff in general, which means he does have influence on the direction of Smackdown, is said to be a big supporter of Christian, but other than him, there appears to be no other members of WWE's top brass that consider Christian to be a major player. And yet, we're told by our key WWE insider that even Gewirtz wouldn't speak up for Christian as a top draw. "Brian knows Christian is a very entertaining wrestler," we were told, "but even he knows Christian should not be the number one guy on either brand."

As we said, however, Christian is still considered to be a quality worker and a reliable hand for WWE, and we were even told that a possible producer/agent position might be available for him when his wrestling days are over, but as far as Christian ever working at the top of a WWE brand, that seems to be a very unlikely possibility.

Apparently, when news of this angle hit the internet, angry fans flooded the Twitter pages of Randy Orton and Joey Styles, expressing their frustration with the title change. In response, Styles posted the following on Twitter:

"When sending hate tweets to myself or @WWE because of @Christian4Peeps, @RandyOrton and the World Heavyweight Championship, please be PG ;)"

Meanwhile, Randy Orton has been re-tweeting posts from angry fans, including the following Tweet:

"You won the title.Vince has no idea how much people are hating YOU on the Internet. I hope you continue to lose all your fans."

What?
I love Orton and even I can admit this is crap, even though I can't say I hate Christian, I have to agree that I could never really see him as Main Event material in WWE, or TNA for that matter. But, still... to put the title on him and take it off not even a week later. :damn:

Stupid people complaining to Orton about it. What is he supposed to say? "No guys, that's wrong. I don't want to be the face of Smackdown! and win the title. Christian deserves it!"

Well this is good news. I don't know what anyone sees in Christian, he's boring.
He was only ever entertaining when he was a tag team and that's because Edge carried him. Alone however, he is very stale.
Supposably Mark Henry is the next contender for the WHC, which is another move i can't understand.
I was interested in watching SD! after the draft but i don't know now. There really isn't one i want to see chasing Orton for the title on there.

Orton's movie is coming out, right?

I still don't see what's so special about Orton. He's not shit, but he's not amazing as his fans claim him to be.

Honestly I don't hate Orton. He's a tweener during a time where there aren't any more tweeners in WWE, so i can understand why he became so crazy popular over the past few years. So my dissapointment isn't a slight against Orton, it's just my own annoyance at WWE's "Status Quo" fixation.

This whole "Christian doesn't have what it takes to be a draw" is a Catch 22 because how can he actually be a draw if he's never given a real shot?

I quite enjoyed Smackdown this week, some fairly entertaining matches and segments. Sort of interested in what Cody Rhodes is going to do now, I hope they give him something do as I can see him just end up coming out delivering the same promo week after week. Also looks like we'll see Chavo Vs. Sin Cara at some point which should be pretty good.

Sort of interested in what Cody Rhodes is going to do now,
I've been saying that since he turned heel. I find this darker Cody to be very entertaining and he's one of my favorite guys right now. The only problem I see with his character is that it requires thinking. He's not playing one of those heels that just comes out and insults the audience (although, he does insult the audience sometimes). He has motive and reasons and explains them. Those types of characters don't really catch on very often. But I hope good things for Cody. I had thought he'd be World Champion within the year, but I'm not sure with Orton on the brand now.

Yeah I'm really liking this darker character as well at the moment and I can't see him being in the world title scene any time soon as it looks like Orton & Christian will be feuding for a while and then they'll probably do something with Mark Henry. Still the possibilities always there and I'd much rather see Rhodes as a world champion than say someone like Alberto Del Rio. Did anyone read that interview he did with Marvel.com where he said this whole persona and look was influenced by Dr. Doom, can't remember if I read it here or somewhere else, it's quite a good read though.
