According to a prominent member of the WWE staff, Cena is a big fan of CM Punk, and thought WWE could have gotten a lot more out of Punk during his run with Randy Orton.

With Punk reportedly in a contract dispute with WWE (his contract expires at the end of the Summer, and he has not elected to sign a new agreement), Cena went to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon with a similar pitch to how Cena worked Chris Jericho's final program when Jericho first took a leave of absence from WWE.

While WWE hopes Punk will eventually stay with the company, it looks like his exit will come at the hands of John Cena should he decide to leave.

Of course, with Punk being in a feud with "The Champ," WWE has the option to offer Punk a title run in order to sweeten the offer for him to stay.

"This is going to be interesting to watch," another key WWE insider told us this evening, "Punk is very smart, and Cena understands WWE politics better than anyone other than HHH and Undertaker. A feud between the two of them may be the smartest thing WWE can do to get Punk to stay!"

"CM Sucks" aside, their feud was pretty damn interesting before they abruptly ended it earlier this year. I say go for it.

The Man. Any Questions?
If it takes title runs and a feud with Cena to "sweeten" the option of working for the only real major-league employer in his profession, fuck him. Let him walk. Toil in obscurity in TNA or someplace else that isn't getting watched by anybody.

I'm not against Punk staying and feuding with Cena (though it's been one, like just about every other feud WWE can do with its current cast), but I'm not big on guys "holding out" and whatnot when it comes to contracts.

The guys contract is running out. Of course he is going to do all he can to get a better deal. You talk like if he doesn't just place Vince's dick in his mouth and start sucking he is stupid. And, as long as TNA is out there for him to use as a negotiation chip, then he should use the threat of leaving to get what he can when he can. You think Vince would do whatever he can to any wrestler he has when he has them by the short hairs? This isn't CM Punk being some kind of dick. And, the report said Cena went to McMahon because of how good Punk is. That should let the WWE know what level of talent they have in Punk. And if it takes a title run to get him to resign (which he should already have being the best heel in WWE) then they damn well better give it to him.

At this point and time Punk has every right to do so. If this was a year ago, it literally would not have worked out, but over the course of the past year Shawn Michaels and Edge have retired, Batista bailed, and Jericho, HHH, and Taker have all taken extended leaves. Punk is the most over heel at this point, and if the report is true, then Cena certainly has realized that they can't afford to lose him at this point.

I expect Alberto Del Rio to be the next guy fed to Cena. I wouldn't mind it being Punk, But I hate the current Nexus.

Add in that both Heyman and Austin both vouched for Punk recently and WWE should know that they have a hot commodity on their hands.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Punk playing with WWE before resigning, nor do I think there is anything wrong with Punk walking away from WWE if he doesn't get a contract he wants. Wrestlers are independent contractors. Let the man get the best contract he can.

$5 says SRP76 would disagree with you and mention Miz as the most over heel.

In reality, Vickie Guerrero still gets a lot of heat.

Well yeah going by heat both Vickie and Cole got him beat. As much as I like Miz, there's no contest that Punk can work the crowd better than he can.

Isn't that what contract negotiations are about? Isn't that why they allow you to negotiate the terms put in the contract? Punk is just doing what he is legally allowed to do so. WWE should stop wanting to take over everything and let him at least have his own name.

That's also good to hear he will be the next fued for Cena. Finally Punk is back where he belongs, in the Main Event.

"Start sucking"

In a way, yes. When you're already getting a top cut at the top company in your profession, how much more do you reasonably expect? What's he going to do? Refuse $100 (rhetorical figure) in WWE in order to make $20 in TNA, because he'd rather have $110? Now that is stupid.

Whether Punk is the type of prima donna to do an NFL-style bitch and whine routine, I don't know. I was just speaking in the general sense in my earlier post. The point was: don't kill the golden goose to get one more egg this month. It's not like any of these guys is making less than, say, an aerospace engineer in the first place.
