The Man. Any Questions?
|
We could ask "why" (in fact "what the FUCK are you smoking?!") to a whole lot of stuff that WWE does. |

True, but this time it'd make no sense at all. They have everything they need to write themselves either way. They can keep the belt on Cena and make Cena look like WWE's savior. They can let Punk win the Title and let him hold the Title hostage for a few weeks before someone finds a way to defeat him. Or they can do a very quick switch by having Punk win and immediately use the PPV concept to crown a new WWE Champion via MITB. |

They could also use this as a good excuse to get rid of that toy piece of crap they call a WWE belt. Let Punk win it and leave. Thank him for taking that cumbersome gold turd away, and unveil a real belt for the first time in 7 years. |

I forget which thread it's posted in, but someone from WWE commented on the WWE Title design. Basically, WWE feels that the current WWE Title design is a brand that they've built up and they have no desire to change that brand. Which is stupid since any time any sports team or anyone else buys a WWE Title as a show of celebration, it's the World Title design that they buy. I've never seen anyone use the ugly ass WWE Title to signal their World Championship status. So, yeah, as much as I'd love to see the current WWE Title scrapped, it ain't going nowhere anytime soon. Actually, since Cena is the guy that introduced the design (did he actually create it?) and since Cena is the face of the company, I don't think the current WWE Title will be replaced unless Cena turns heel or leaves the company. It'll take something dramatic, I think. |

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
|
This is what I'm expecting, with Punk winning against Cena, but losing the title right away to Alberto Del Rio. |

Ghaa... @Cybrus: Well, while we're at it, we can replace Cena, too. In fact, they need to, soon. Seven fucking years at the top of the card?! Steve Austin wasn't even in WWF (active) for seven years total, from Ringmaster onward! Talk about stale bread, here. @MY85: Del Rio? I guess they could, since he's a - ahem - big deal. Couldn't we also get a brand jump? As in, does the SD winner HAVE to challenge the World champ, or can both winners attack whomever they please? Edited by SRP76, Jun 22 2011, 10:36 PM.

Those MITB matches are brand-specific. I enjoy ladder matches, but I liked more the MITB concept used at WM rather than having its own PPV. And I say Del Rio because beating Punk in his hometown could give him great heat and that could start the rumored Cena vs. Del Rio feud. You know Cena will get the title back again when he has to feud with The Rock for WM, so Del Rio could have the title for a few months. But maybe this could happen: Cena defeats Punk, Del Rio (or Miz) cashes in and loses to Cena.

I can see that happening. Cena just clearing the field. In fact, it's logical enough, because WWE does not have a heel that will be a long-term champ. The internet loves Punk, but even they know damn well that he'd be dropping the belt back to Cena sooner than later. Nobody gives a fuck about Del Rio, so he's just a Jack Swagger-type nothing-champ if he gets it. Miz, Christian, and Truth are conspiracy nuts that lose to midcard nobodies like Riley now. In short, until they build another 1999 Triple H, why even bother taking the title off Cena? You know it's going right back on. |

This I see happening. They've been trying to get him over as a heel (Winning the Royal Rumble and getting a World Title Match within a year of being with the company) and with Big Show moving on to feud with Mark Henry, it would make sense for Del Rio to win the title this way. This gives the WWE at least a month to test the waters to see if Del Rio has the chops to be the new "top heel" of Raw. |
