The Man. Any Questions?
|
I'm "between games" right now, and I thought I might share some experience with everyone here, if you're interested. I have the following PS1 games to choose from: Final Fantasy Final Fantasy II Final Fantasy Tactics Chrono Trigger Chrono Cross Resident Evil I was thinking of posting a walkthough of whichever game I play on here, "live", as I play. This would allow everyone to follow along, and point out anything they think I might be doing wrong, or just discuss the game. Anyone care? |

I've wanted to play several of those games myself but I've just never got around to it. I've only ever played Final Fantasy VII & VIII on PS1 so it would be cool to see a Final Fantasy one, then again Resident Evil is also an interesting choice. I'm not sure I know of the Chrono games, are they similar to FF? |

They are similar. Made by the same company. They obviously have different specifics, such as plot, battle systems, and so on, but they have similar graphics styles and the same musical composers doing the scores. |

I voted for one although I'd be interested in reading no matter which game ends up chosen. Are you a fan of the tomb raider games on PS1? |

I LOVE Tomb Raider! Not just on PS1, but I thought Anniversary on PS2 was incredible, as well. Angel of Darkness, not so much, as I gave up on it in the first level. Never got to play any of the more recent ones. |

I have never finished that game. I got stuck once, then had to come back like a month later because I got so pissed off I had to put the game down. After getting past the point I had trouble with, I played for another day or so and just never finished.I'd be interested to see your personal walkthrough to RE just because I love that game and have beaten it several times. Be interesting to see if we did different things at some point. |

I played the first Tomb Raider game so much when I was younger that now I can whip through it fairly quickly, same with the second. I started the third one a couple of days ago which I didn't play half as much as the first two and I'm finding it a hell of a lot more difficult I didn't like Angel Of Darkness either, I always attributed that to the fact I had it on PC and not on a console so I may pick it up on PS2 at some point. Aside from the ones on the PS1 the only other one I've played is the one of the ones on the Wii, I think it was called Tomb Raider: Underground or something like that, anyway it was disappointing compared with how much I still enjoy the PS1 games.

Yeah, liked Anniversary a lot, even wrote a short review on it. I was thinking about playing Chrono Cross after Chrono Trigger, so I vote for that game. |

I could never get into the Tomb Raider games. I owned the first one and I thought it was okay and I've played demos of one or two of the sequels, but it was never enough to sustain my interest in following the series. |

So far, Resident Evil is walking with this. I started a new game, and am jotting down my movements, just in case. Too bad I don't have a modern PC, so I could record my playthrough and upload video as I go, like the youtube walkthroughs. Alas, it'll be oldschool text. Not that I can't easily switch games, mind you. I just have notes on paper right now. |

How exactly are you going to work this walkthrough? Are you going to sit and type up how to do everything in the game or are you going to just recap everything you did during your last game play? I have never had a Playstation (1 2 or 3) so I've never played any of these games. If your walkthrough is interesting, I'll read it but I cannot sit here and vote for any of the games since I don't know anything about any of them. |

No. My brother and former brother in law had one. I have played some Playstations games casually, but have never played a PS game from stat to finish. |

It would work like this: I make a new thread in my blog forum, as "Walkthrough for *x game*". After I play a bit (taking note of my actions as I go), I make a post in the thread about where I went/where the player should go, in the style of a game walkthrough. Everyone then can respond to my post, like I described. They can either point out a better method of play than I used, or whatever. Eventually, I'll have played and posted the whole game. It should be noted that I have in fact beaten all these games several times, so it's not like it would be a noob playthrough. You can pretty much trust my advice as the game goes on. Sounds like it'd be a fun thread to read as long as you do it with your personality and not let it read like a manual. No one wants to read directions, you know? But as long as you just talk about playing the game your way, it should be a fun read.

Try and sell me on Final Fantasy. The only FF-related game I played (not counting Kingdom Hearts, despite it including FF characters) was a Dissidia demo for the PSP, but that's mostly a fighting game. |

I am aware of certain games and franchises for RPG games, but I'm mostly into action, adventure, sports, fighting games. Closest I have come to RPG would be Kingdom Hearts and some Zelda games (if those count). I've heard lots of things about Final Fantasy. While I have yet to play the game, I am aware of it being very popular. Should I really have to start with FF 1? Edited by MY85, Jul 18 2011, 05:38 AM.

Any prequel game for me to try out? I think there's Tactics for the PSP. And PSN store has FF7 for sale. |

Channels Rock... IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT GAME YOU PLAY!! Heh, heh... With Final Fantasy, don't be deceived by numbers; they aren't a series. Each game is stand-alone, having nothing to do with the others (except X-2, which is a sequel to X). There are common gameplay elements, but that's it; all take place independently. ANYWAY... I'm almost done playing through Resident Evil. I'll post my walkthrough soon. After that, I'll do another.

Mine is a ROM/ISO of the original game for PS1, on a PSX emulator (like I said, pirated for free > paid for). As are all my games for NES, SNES, and PS1. My PC is outdated, so I can't emulate high-speed PS1 games, or anything from the PS2 generation onward.

Yeah, I got my PC in 2004, so it's shit now. 256 MB RAM, 325 Intel Celeron processor, 2.53 GHz speed (roughly 1/15 the power and speed of a 2011 PC).

I tried to download a PS1 emulator once but I got so confused about how to set the damn thing up that I just gave up. Instead I just bought the games I wanted to play used off of Amazon, my PS1 still works fine but some games are ridiculously overpriced to say they're used and for an older console
