There is no doubt that CM Punk has created a huge wave in the wrestling world this last month. It started with his worked shoot speech on Raw 3 weeks ago that many are saying is as monumental as the Austin 3:16 speech. Punk continued this momentum through the MITB PPV where he created more interest in the WWE Title than any in recent memory. Many are openly saying that Punk has lit a fire in WWE not seen since Stone Cold Steve Austin. So my question is, did he? Is Punk a big enough name to have a Stone Cold type impact on WWE? Can he be that guy? I'm not talking about just being WWE Champion. I'm not talking about just being the focal point of the company. I'm talking about being a guy that draws monster heat, draws ratings, sells merchandise, sells PPVs. Can Punk be a Stone Cold like figure for WWE? Or is he just another headline wrestler that is good for headlining, but will not be as important as a guy like Stone Cold? |

No he is noway near as popular as Austin and Hogan. I mean does Punk really have Children eating vitamins and saying their prayers? CM Punk is a Heel. Top Heel in that. As this continues I do not see Punk turning Face while in the WWE. I can honestly say that Punk reminds me of Jericho back in the Attitude era. Unfortunately Cena is indeed that next Austin and Hogan simply because he's much more popular. Do you see most fans in a Arena wearing CM Punk t-shirts? Punk represents us older fans. 18 and older. Majority of WWE Fans are Children..

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!

I think he's right now in a position to turn him as an anti-hero face. Dunno if he'll be popular as Austin or Hogan, but I hope he does and ends up surpassing them. Austin loves Punk, by the way.

I can see them turning him into an anti-authority figure face. All the best guys have had a feud with Vinnie Mac because honestly he is the ultimate bad guy. Everyone in the world would love to slap their boss across the face and when you see guys like Punk/Austin/Rock etc. go against the boss then people can relate to that and will start to love him. Even my friends watching the PPV with me were all Cena lovers at the start, but after the promos and the awesome match, they were all cheering for Punk. |

Punk has what it takes. It all falls down to having the right heels to play off of. A Hero is just as good as the Villain he plays off of, and vice-versa. I think that's been Cena's biggest flaw over the past few years. He's by no means bad in the ring or on the mic (outside of his pandering jokes) but he's really lacked a strong counter point. That was the reason why fans were starting to get behind him during the Nexus angle, because that was the first time in a while someone was a legitimate threat to him. I'll say the same about Austin. You guys may disagree with me, but personally I don't think he would've kept his momentum if he didn't have guys like Bret Hart, Mr. McMahon, and The Rock to feud with. Not trying to downplay Austin, it's just that you need a great villains to keep people interested in the hero. So back to my original point, yeah I think Punk has what it takes. He just needs to have some really captivating feuds. |

No, he's not. WWE tried to push him like this generation's Hogan, but the fans did not accept him. The fact that he is hated by at least half of the viewing audience proves that he'll never be a Hogan/Austin type of importance (although, a true heel turn by Cena is going to be HUGE). Hogan and Austin are individuals that are credited with revolutionizing the industry. They took what was common practice and completely changed the industry to something else, and the rest of the industry followed suit. They appealed to the mainstream crowds. Cena has been the face of the company for 7 or 8 years now and has not come anywhere near close to any of these kinds of achievements. |
