I find the Arctic Monkeys are a very likeable band, their first two albums in 2006 & 2007 each dominated my playlist for a quite considerable time and each album had very few skippable moments. Upon hearing "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" I intantly took notice and then after I'd heard "When The Sun Goes Down" I was hooked. Arctic Monkeys represented pretty much my first foray into indie rock, before this my music was predominetly dominated by pop punk bands such as Blink 182 & Bowling for Soup as well as R&B/hip hop acts such as D12, 50 Cent etc. "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" & "When The Sun Goes Down" I will admit now that during school my music was predominetly influenced by whatever my friends deemed to be cool at the time. I found it was just easier to go with the crowd, peer pressures a bitch but it created oppurtunities to talk to people that I wouldn't normally talk to so I don't have any regrets in that respect. From listening to Arctic Monkeys I branched out and discovered some of my all time favourite bands such as The Libertines, The View, The Strokes, The Kooks, Mumm-Ra etc. Their first album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" was excellent when it was released and it still holds up today. Aside from the afore mentioned singles my favourites on this album would have to be "Still Take You Home" & "Mardy Bum". "Mardy Bum" is much gentler/softer song compared with the rest of the album but fits in nicely anyway. I've always found "Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured" to be one of the catchiest songs on the album, it's one of those songs that you think about skipping when it comes up in shuffle but as soon as it kicks in I just have to listen to it. "Still Take You Home" & "Mardy Bum" The first single I listened to off their follow up album "Favourite Worst Nightmare" was "Fluorescent Adolescent", I remember having this song on loop constantly when it was released; overplaying it would be an understatement. In regards to the other singles I didn't give "Brianstorm" much attention until I got the album but once I did this was another one on constant repeat. While I liked "Teddy Picker" I prefered album tracks "Balaclava" & "This Is A Circus" much more. One of my favourites on this album would have to be "Old Yellow Bricks" which I considered to be the equal of "Mardy Bum" from their last album. All in all I pretty much considered these albums equally good and thus listened to them back to back for several months after "Favourite Worst Nightmare" was released. "Fluorescent Adolescent" & "Balaclava" By 2009 and the release of their third album "Humbug" I'd burned myself out on Arctic Monkeys and thus didn't give it a listen. From what I've heard and read online the album has a some what different sound to the first two. With the release of their fourth album last month, my interest has again been sparked with the Arctic Monkeys so I'll be picking up both "Humbug" and "Suck it & See" in the near future. I'm unsure whether I'll like them or not but after giving their first two albums a long overdue dust off and listen I think they're worth a try

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!

I really, really loved their first album. Second album is also fun on the ears. Humbug is a change from AM's style. And I listened to Suck It And See. Would it be fair to give it a score of 6.5/10? |

I've given "Humbug" a couple of listens now and I can't decide whether I like it or not. It's definitely a change in style compared to their previous two albums. I really like "Crying Lightning", "Pretty Visitors" & "Cornerstone" but apart from that there arn't that many tracks that I'm really all that fussed about Maybe it's one of those albums that will grow on me but right now it's not living up to their previous albums. I havn't got around to listening to "Suck It & See" yet, will probably give it a listen soon.
