CM Punk Twitter:New champ? How can that be, when the champ is...here

Punk's Twitter account has this in the description:

Quote:

Unemployed WWE champion. Often confused with Batman. Once tipped a stripper with a filet-o-fish.

It seems that the de facto holder of the WWE Championship and former WWE Superstar CM Punk is not done poking a stick at his previous place of business

Thursday morning, during Mattel's WWE panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2011, the ex-WWE Superstar reemerged with the WWE Title still in his possession, strolling into a conference room where Triple H, Hall of Famer Bret “Hit Man” Hart and Rey Mysterio were answering questions.

Punk promptly began to ridicule Triple H – the very Superstar and WWE executive who recently relieved Mr. McMahon of his leadership duties as WWE Chairman on Monday Night Raw.

Punk's mocking led to an intense verbal confrontation between Punk and Triple H. When Punk asked the subject of his scorn, “how’s life in Fantasy Land?” Triple H responded, “how’s the unemployment line?”

Addressing Rey Mysterio about WWE’s match this Monday night on Raw to crowd a new WWE Champion, Punk invited The Master of the 619 to Chicago anytime that he wants a title opportunity.

Triple H tried to maintain his professional decorum. After pointing out that “a champion performs,” he informed Punk that “it is a new regime” in WWE, inviting Punk to “give [him] a call and maybe [they] could work something out.”

In the end, the self-exiled Punk left as swiftly as he emerged, brandishing the WWE Championship as he went.

The new head of WWE continued to address the situation after the disruption was over, commenting that he was astounded that the WWE Universe continued to cheer for Punk while Punk was refusing to perform for them. He pointed out that that was what true WWE Champions had been doing “day in and day out” throughout the history of WWE.

This public interruption came on the heels of the monumental events of Sunday, July 17 at Money in the Bank pay-per-view. There, The Second City Saint stunned the WWE Universe by defeating John Cena, exiting through the crowd and leaving the company without its most coveted title.

Late Friday night, WWE.com was granted permission by WWE executives to show footage of Punk's interruption, caught by WWE cameras during the Comic-Con Q & A.

I think everyone knew that some kind of deal had to have been worked out with WWE and Punk when Punk left as WWE Champion. I don't know if he's actually signed with WWE and is just playing this storyline or if he's just signed an agreement not to go anywhere else with the understanding that he'll return to WWE in a few months. But whatever the deal is, WWE is continuing to build this feud. Punk feuding with Triple H would be a good feud, but only if Punk goes over. It'd really build him up to defeat the man that most consider the current benchmark test of WWE. But if they are building to this Punk/Triple H feud, then you'd think it'd be a WrestleMania match. But they also left the door open for a Undertaker/Triple H rematch rematch (yes, I meant to say rematch twice) as well. I wonder which way they'll go.

To me it sounds like they are just continuing the storyline. I do not think Punk is going to feud with Triple H. He will probably just continue to feud with Cena and/or whomever wins the WWE title. It's going to be like the HBK/Razor IC title bout (I think I said this before) where there are 2 people with claims to the belt and they will have to unify the titles when he returns.

Yes, and I agree with this. But at the same time, Triple H isn't exactly a retired wrestler. He is fully capable of getting back in the ring at any point. There are no injuries stopping him or any other reason why he wouldn't be able to. So if he is becoming an on screen authority figure and if Punk is interrupting him and he is reacting to Punk, then logical expectation from most is that the two will eventually have a match.

It'd be cool, though, if Triple H went all heel on us again. Vince wanted to distance himself from Punk and immediately crown a new Champion. They got to the finals of a WWE Title tournament last week but had to postpone the finale match until next Raw owing to Vince wanting to address Cena. Now that Triple H is in charge, it'd be great if he came out and said that there was no need to crown a new WWE Champion because they already have a WWE Chamion: CM Punk. We'd then see Triple H trying to get Punk back into WWE by making him better and better offers each week before eventually growing tired and turning on Punk. Punk could easily be an anti-hero character where he acts heel but gets face reactions.

I really don't think CM Punk is coming back until WM. That will either be his return or his first match. If that is the case, I don't think Triple H will face him because he will be wrestling The Undertaker I believe. I think it's all about Rock vs Cena. Cena said that his match with Rock will be for the WWE title. So, it would make sense for the winner (most likely Cena) to win the match and title. And, while celebrating, get jumped by a returning CM Punk...WM ends.

I don't think WWE is capable of stretching this out that long. They just don't do long term storylines anymore. I think the latest we'd see Punk return would be at the Royal Rumble, but think it's more likely we'll see him before Survivor Series. I think he said in an interview that he's looking forward to 3 months of doing nothing. What PPV is 3 months from July? That's close to Survivor Series, right?

Three months is how long the no compete clause is right?

There are many people in both WWE and Ring of Honor that suspect that the two companies have some sort of a working agreement in place,.

Sources insist that some of the things CM Punk spoke about in his infamous RAW promo a few weeks back will start finding their way onto WWE TV soon. For example, Punk talked about Triple H taking over and he began that storyline on this week’s RAW. Punk also mentioned John Laurinaitis and Colt Cabana, both who appeared on WWE TV in the past week. While Cabana wasn’t named by the announcers, he was shown at ringside on Money in the Bank and was photographed with Punk and the WWE Title in Chicago after the pay-per-view.

For what its worth, Cabana has told at least one indy promotion that he’s worked regularly with that he’s not taking any more bookings with them after next month.

Perhaps CM Punk will appear at RoH shows before returning?

Isn't there some kind rule where they can strip the champion of his title if he goes 30 days without defending it, that some companies like pull out when convenient?

They don't need to, since Punk "left the company". He forfeited the title the second his contract ran out (thus the Rey vs. Miz WWE Title match). Punk's just got a belt. As do a lot of people.

It'll be mildly interesting to see if Punk himself acknowledges the 30-day rule at some point, though. I doubt he will.

No, he did not. Punk is still the true WWE Champion. Whomever they hand a belt to next is just a lame duck Champion that just has a belt that looks like the WWE Title. When Punk returns to the company, you'll see the true WWE Champion again.

Spoken like a mark.

When a dude leaves the company (any company), he forfeits any status he has. You know that.

In 1993, HBK was "suspended", he didn't leave the WWF.

Although we both know Punk hasn't left anything, he's still in WWE, but, from the audience's perspective, he left. The title is vacant.

2 weeks before MITB, Vince McMahon came out in the middle of the ring and stated he didn't want CM Punk to leave the company with the WWE Title because it would embarrass the company and make all future WWE Champions void. That set the precedence for this storyline. CM Punk is the true WWE Champion. He didn't forfeit the title. He hasn't been stripped of the title. There is no storyline reason to explain why he isn't the recognized Champion of the company, thus CM Punk is still the true WWE Champion. Vince made irrational decisions about this CM Punk storyline which is why he was replaced. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how the storyline continues with Triple H, but I am hoping Triple H has the common sense to acknowledge that the WWE Title Tournament was completely unneeded since WWE already has a Champion: CM Punk.

Storyline, like you said. We all know better. "If" Punk is really gone (he's not), then he's a nobody with a replica belt, like a billion Cena fans out there.

No man...he's gone. His contract is up. It's all legit. Punk has the WWE title and was the last guy to hold it. That makes him champ. WWE may crown a new guy with a new belt, but we all know Punk is the real champion.

SRP, we both know that if Punk was truly gone from WWE that their is no way he'd have been booked to leave as WWE Champion. There have been very few names that have been allowed to actually leave as Champion (Trish Stratus retiring as Women's Champion comes to mind), and they've all been on great terms with the company. CM Punk doesn't have that kind of status with WWE.

So let's just go ahead and throw out the entire "mark" and "is it a storyline or not" silliness since no one here thinks like that and speak from a storyline perspective. Storyline wise, CM Punk is the true WWE Champion. He was never stripped of the title. He never forfeited the title. He won the WWE Title and his contract expired. Vince didn't like the fact that his WWE Champion wasn't contracted to his company so he decided to crown a new Champion. The board members didn't like this so they removed Vince (again, completely from a storyline POV). Now, with Triple H in charge we can see a more rational perspective. I'm still hoping that Triple H will acknowledge CM Punk as the reigning WWE champion and try to lure CM Punk back into WWE over the next few weeks before finally growing frustrated with Punk.
