I agree. CM Punk is the WWE Champion.

The Man. Any Questions?
Nuh-uh!

In storyline, he left the company. He therefore forfeits his standing. Why do you think - IN STORYLINE - there's a match to crown the WWE Champion?! If he were still Champion, they wouldn't be having this match.

I kinda get what Cybrus is saying, but I've always been under the (possibly mistaken) impression that Vince meant that it made all future champions look weak, since nobody would have beaten Punk to become champion. if he said void, it's probably because (as everyone watching has noticed) Vince isn't really speaking that well anymore. I mean, he even called it the "WWF Championship" last week. His word should be taken at face value, not verbatim.

Also, you need a champion. If there isn't a champion, then what the hell is anyone else doing the in company? It's a plot device that explains every single action done in the WWE, and without it, why the hell is anything going on?

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
I'm expecting Punk to interfere during Rey-Miz. If he already popped up during Comic-Con, he might as well show up on Raw or somehow, another person avoids Rey-Miz from having a legit finish.

I'm afraid you're right about this, and they stretch/fuck the viewers the Rey/Miz match until SummerSham. A match that has NO FUCKING BUSINESS headlining anything but a weekly Raw, much less the #2 PPV. Miz I can stand, but Rey's a novelty act at best, from 15 fucking years ago! Keep him off the top of the card.

Mysterio can still deliver in the ring though. I'd still take that over most other nonsense that goes on. Punk's status is up in the air and the series between Orton and Christian is starting to drag a little. They're about the only other interesting things going on lately. So I'm cool with that match up.

Calm down, they'll probably insert Cena. God forbid Mysterio to headline a PPV, despite being very popular with WWE fans. :busy:

That's actually what I'm kind of dreading.

I'd be cool with Punk making his presence known again.

Why do you think - IN STORYLINE - there's a match to crown the WWE Champion?! If he were still Champion, they wouldn't be having this match.
Because Vince McMahon Benoit'ed him. Vince said he'd never mention Punk's name or make reference to him again. And this set up the final segment of the night where Triple H took the power away from Vince.

I'm really in repeat mode at the moment, so I think I'll save any further discussion on this angle until we see what happens on Raw. I am really hoping Triple H is the voice of reason and recognizes Punk as the WWE Champion. It's the only thing that makes sense in this storyline, since there is no no storyline reason why Punk isn't the true WWE Champion. Nowhere is it written that when a guy leaves the company he automatically forfeits the Title. I mean, go ask Alandra Blaze/Madeusa if that much is true.

Interesting to note that a quick glance of the WWEShop website shows that every CM Punk item offered is either out of stock and backordered or completely sold out. That's a pretty telling sign that the angle has connected with the WWE audience.

I just went to WWEShop.com and looked myself. The only CM Punk shirts that are out of stock are the Nexus Shirts. All the other shirts, even the new one he wore this week (and the week prior to winning the WWE Title) are available for purchase right now.

Speaking of Punk's T-shirt:

PWTorch.com

In A Sentence: The new C.M. Punk "Best in the World" shirt dropped overnight from $450 to $24.99.

Wrestling fans who spent as much as $510 on the new C.M. Punk t-shirt are probably wishing they would have waited a few days.

The shirts are now being sold at WWEShop.com for a mere $24.99, and, to the naked eye, there appears to be no noticeable difference from those shirts and those that were sold in Chicago during the Money in the Bank pay-per view earlier this month.

Torch specialist Justin James noted the new Punk shirt on WWEShop.com does not have “Chicago 7-17-2011” on it, which is the only noticeable difference.

Torch reader Sal O’Neil was at the Smackdown tapings in Philadelphia Tuesday, and noted they were hot sellers at the merchandise stands.

As recently as Monday, before C.M. Punk returned to WWE TV, the shirts were selling on eBay for more than $450. That's a 95 percent discount on WWE's website.

They don't need to, since Punk "left the company". He forfeited the title the second his contract ran out
No, he did not. Punk is still the true WWE Champion. Whomever they hand a belt to next is just a lame duck Champion that just has a belt that looks like the WWE Title. When Punk returns to the company, you'll see the true WWE Champion again.

Spoken like a mark.

When a dude leaves the company (any company), he forfeits any status he has. You know that.

In 1993, HBK was "suspended", he didn't leave the WWF.

Although we both know Punk hasn't left anything, he's still in WWE, but, from the audience's perspective, he left. The title is vacant.
Just to add in to this cuz I was around during CM Punks hey day. Randy Couture left the UFC as Heavyweight Champion a few years ago. Yet when he returned, he was still Heavyweight Champion.

Anyway, dont you guys wish I was posting more during the whole CM Punk v Cena v HHH v Nash "shooting" days. Im sure my opinions woulda been different then manys.
