Despite GREEN LANTERN's less-than-stellar box office performance, Warner Bros. still has plans to make a sequel to the comic book movie adaptation - although the second time around, the execution will be different.

Warner Bros. film group president Jeff Robinov shared his thoughts on the studio's plans with the LA Times. "To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action…. And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth."

What does this mean for Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, and Marc Guggenheim's already-written outline for the sequel, as well as director Martin Campbell's involvement? According to the Times' sources, Warner Bros. intends to make "significant changes" to the outline or start over from scratch completely. Furthermore, the executives are leaning towards finding a new director to helm the second film.

The 2011 Green Lantern movie was considered a bomb at the box office by critics and fans alike.

With the Man of Steel being a success, it's wondered if the Green Lantern movie will be a part of that Universe.

Judging from the following QnA with Ryan Reynolds, it seems as if his career patrolling the spaceways is all but done for.

MTV conducted a Yes/No question and answer with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges while promoting R.I.P.D. and asked the actor if he would be interested in purchasing GreenLanternSequel.com.

"I don't think you can sell that to anyone," Reynolds responded.

Our own DC Entertainment source most recently told us that there would be no Ryan Reynolds in the Justice League movie, and I also heard that Reynolds actually wanted to play The Flash, but Warner Bros. only gave him the option to play Green Lantern. Looks like GL is going to be rebooted is our best guess.

I think replacing Reynolds/Rebooting the GL films is a smart movie. Although I didn't hate the first movie like most did, Ryan Reynolds is something akin to Ben Affleck to me. A better casting job and a non origin story would be a good move. They could go into something like the Sinestro Corp Wars and have a great movie on their hands. Sinestro turns evil, recruits members, starts a war with the GL corp.

Hopefully they can get it right this time.

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
Just make the GL character get retooled in the Justice League film just like how Marvel did with Hulk on The Avengers. And if it works very well, a film should be made.

That is what seems to be hinted at in the report. They offered Reynolds the role of GL in the JLA movie and he wanted to play the Flash. So, it sounds like both characters are in it. The recast will probably be the new guy for solo films too.

I don't have a problem with Reynolds, but I didn't think he fit the role of Hal Jordan.

Two massive franchises apparently aren't enough for some actors.

Tyrese Gibson, known for roles in the Fast and Furious and Transformers films, has recently posted to Instagram a slew of images of himself dressed as Green Lantern. Gibson has posted 14 such pics, many of which are credited to artist Bosslogic.

The actor posted the first image Jan. 23, accompanied by the caption "Rumor has it that." More recent posts have included the quote "I am fully committed to suiting up for this adventure."

Gibson appears to be gunning to play the DC Comics character in Warner Bros.' planned Green Lantern film, slated for 2020. Ryan Reynolds played the character in the 2011 film version, which grossed $219 million and was widely considered by fans to be a disappointment.

I wouldn't mind seeing John Stewart come to the Big screen. It would be the easiest way to reboot the franchise. However, as a Hal Jordan fan, I hope they don't abandon the character but just recast him for future movies too. I'd like to see all the earth GL's eventually. John Stewart in the JLA movie and spin off into GL films is okay by me.

Warner Bros and DC are moving aggressively on a new screen version of Green Lantern. They've set David Goyer to write the script with Justin Rhodes for Green Lantern Corps, with Goyer and his Phantom Four banner producing, with DC heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg exec producing. The new version is described as Lethal Weapon in space, and it's based on a comic book origin story. The focus will be on two characters: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The latter is an African American Marine sniper before he joined the Lantern Corps and the story very much focuses on his relationship with Jordan and the Corps. The story was conceived by Goyer and Johns.

More like an action film with some comedic aspects. I think they are talking about Hal and John as sort of partners. The GL Corp are basically space cops and they are going to do a Vet/new guy thing I would suspect with John being the new GL on the block. Just a guess on my part but I can see it working if done correctly.

You're a GL guy, why are there so many GL for/from Earth? I thought it was one per sector?

I know Hal went crazy (before being recton) and started crossing off Lanterns, so there needed to be a new one for his sector, But there were like 4 from Earth (Hal, John, Kyle, Guy).

It basically went like this:

When Abin Sur died, the Alien of the space sector, he asked his ring to find another to replace him. The ring found 2 people, Hal and Guy Gardner. Hal was closer so the ring chose him. Guy became Hal's backup should anything happen to Hal like injury or whatever. Later, Guy got hit by a bus and went into a coma. At that point, the Guardians of the universe chose John Stewart to be Hal's backup.

During the Crisis on Infinite Earths story, some of the Guardians revived Guy and gave him a ring and sent him on a mission. Thus becoming a full time GL.

Hal Jordan quit the Corp for a time and John Stewart became full time GL replacing him.

Jordan got a ring back during the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline.

Kyle Rayner became a GL when Jordan became Parallax and kill a majority of the Corp.

Eventually, everyone kept their rings and became a big happy family.
