To Live and Fly in L.A.

Rey Mysterio soared in an impressive victory for himself, John Morrison & Kofi Kingston over R-Truth, Alberto Del Rio & The Miz at SummerSlam. Can Rey's momentum propel him to a WWE Title victory in his native San Diego on Raw Monday night?

I'd rather that happen than hear another speech about Del Rio and his favorite word: Destiny.

Was just watching USA Network where they showed a commercial for Raw. They're like "Rey Mysterio will face the undisputed champion. But who will it be? John Cena or CM Punk?" Um...

Yeah, well, those previews are made much earlier in the week and almost never do anything more than a generic recap. It's similar to how if you press preview on your remote control you'll never get anything more than a generic preview, even for recorded shows like SmackDown!.

I wonder if Nash is replacing Mason as Del Rio's bodyguard?

I guess NoC can be a Four Way now, Rey, Del Rio, Cena, Punk.

I was hoping that Miz "injured" Mysterio last week, putting himself in the title shot.

How much do you think Nash paid the announcer to say all of those flattering things about him?

Also, what was the point of that Miz promo? Just the subway plug?

I don't watch TNA, but apparently making references to wrestling as a whole is what they like to do, so yeah, I guess it is pretty similar.

Also, I couldn't help but laugh at how Nash omitted Hogan's name when he said that himself and Scott Hall changed the industry in 1996. Hogan was the driving force behind NWO. Not Nash. Not Hall. Hogan.

Hogan was just the shocking big name. It was Hall and Nash's concept. And the invasion angle was WAY over in the two months before Hogan joined them.

Raw was lame. If not for Punk quoting his sisters text, the show would have been totally a pass. And, haven't we already been through the McMahon-Helmsley Era?

Also, John Laurinaitis = the guy that sent the text to Nash.

Kevin Nash made a huge impact on the industry during his time. He was a WWE Champion and started the n.W.o. storyline. But he's just not one of those big names from the past that invoke a nostalgia response...at least not from me. He seemed so out of place on Raw. I think he was expecting some kind of hero's response for his return and he legitimately looked boggled when the fans started the "What" chants on him. It's like he didn't know how to react and it threw his entire game off. Because he was just stumbling over his words and made very little sense. His big speech to Punk made zero sense due to him stumbling over so many words. I cannot say that I'm looking forward to this storyline right now. Maybe it'll get better, but it's off to a tripping start.

Del Rio as Champion is as boring as I thought it'd be. Once you get past Richardo screaming "ALBERTOOOOOOOO DEEEELL RRRRRRIOOOO!", it's all downhill. That said, I completely understand why they put the belt on him. They have no big PPVs coming up anytime soon, so they have no huge buyrate to match from last year. And on top of that, CM Punk is carrying the show at the moment. Punk doesn't need the WWE Title to seem important, he's already the reason people are tuning in. So now is a good time to test Del Rio as Champion without having to worry about it backfiring too much. And if it doesn't work, they can easily get the belt off him with no harm done.

But, yeah, Raw wasn't too great this week. I'm just not being drawn into this conspiracy theory storyline. Maybe as it progresses more I'll be more into it.

I'll kind of disagree with this reasoning for it being ok to put the title on Del Rio right now.

While I agree with Punk being the reason for most to tune in right now, Punk is just now getting to the point of being a credible superstar that can challenge guys like Cena and Triple H and you think he has a chance of actually winning. The WWE need to establish him as one of the top guys on that level. Punk is hot and only getting hotter. The WWE should latch onto the guy and watch as he skyrockets himself, the WWE title and the WWE to a place it hasn't been since guys like SCSA and The Rock were the main event. The people are starving for an act like Punk. Since he has caught fire, he beat Cena and left. Then he beats Cena again and they immediately take the title from him again. Punk should have some kind of title reign where he is a dominate champion. Then, they still could have done the Nash/Del Rio storyline with Punk as an even hotter act and a more credible title run. Punk is pretty much a face now without ever having the "turn" moment. Imagine him finally getting his title run and then having Nash and Del Rio steal it from him after a month or two. The story would have come off much better and Del Rio would have more than X-Pac heat.

NWO wouldn't worked without Hogan. True, Nash and Hall did the leg work with driving the angle, but without Hogan's Heel Turn it wouldn't have caught on like a wildfire.

No it isn't. He may be in the WWE title storyline, but he isn't the top heel in the company. Miz, Christian, Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett would all be better in his spot. With CM Punk being a face, the top heel spot is up for grabs at this point.

And it was cheap heat at that. Getting heat for crapping on the hometown hero isn't a good way to judge how over someone is.

The good news is that the 8/15 edition of Raw did a 3.29 rating, with 5,055,000 viewers. That is up from recent weeks. The bad news is that hour one of the show did 3.4 rating with 5,248,000 viewers while hour two did a 3.18 rating with 4,861,000. WWE never likes to see hour two drop. My take on it is that they created a buzz after SummerSlam and when people heard the payoff in hour one, in some cases it wasn't enough to keep them around for hour two.

I hate when news reports read like an editorial. Post the facts and leave any opinions out of it.

I see what you are saying and think you do have a solid point. However, Punk doesn't need to hold the WWE Title to be built as a credible top tier name. He just needs to be treated like a big deal. Other top guys need to treat him like a big deal. That's how you establish a new name. Having the belt doesn't n necessarily make you a big name. Go ask Jack Swagger or Great Khali. Or wait a few months and ask Del Rio. :stop:

True about Punk, but at some point he needs that legit title run after beating Cena and the top guys. A screwed up title run can hurt anyone. Look at Jericho's 1st Unified run or Christians last 2 title wins or the guys you listed above. Establishing CM Punk as an elite guys like Cena is really only done by a dominate title run at some point. This was his time. Just like when SCSA beat HBK at WM to begin the Austin era, CM Punk was poised and ready to start his run. The WWE just seems to have cut him off at the knees.
