The guide for my cable company, Time-Warner is listing Tuesday's Smackdown as "Super Smackdown", so it was not picked up under my series recording setting.

You may want to make sure your own DVR settings are set properly if you want to record the show. You may also want to add some extra time to the recording in case WWE goes a few minutes over.

Christian is Cage Ready

With Tuesday's LIVE SuperSmackDown Steel Cage Match against Randy Orton looming, Christian doesn't mince words about the World Heavyweight Title Match, his opponent, his pal Edge, or anyone else for that matter.

Does anyone know why they are suddenly doing a live episode of SD!? Does anyone expect anything newsworthy to come out of this show? I am hoping this is the last time we see Christian vs Orton for a long time. The feud delivered quality matches consistently, but I'm so tired of seeing it every week. Plus, I haven't like Christian's character at all since he first won the World Title a while back.

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
Isn't there some big speech thing happening on Friday in the States and that's why Smackdown is moved to Tuesday this week only?

It isn't being moved. It's going to be played twice this week. It'll air live on Tuesday night and then it'll air again during its normal Friday nigh time slot. I've read something about a UFC event or something happening on Friday. But I don't follow that, so I'm not sure.

SyFy will be airing Smackdown live on Tuesday 8/30 as its usual airdate Friday 9/2 falls on Labor Day weekend. So, anticipating a poor rating for that weekend, they are airing the show live as it is taped.

I had to do a bit of backtracking on the news sites to get this, but:

ProWrestling.net

WWE and SyFy announced today that Smackdown will air live from Wichita, Kansas on SyFy on Tuesday August 30 at 7:00pm CT. The show will also re-air in its normal timeslot Friday, September 2. This special will be called "Super Smackdown." [via TV by the Numbers]

Shore's Slant: Interesting. I wonder what caused this. Suddenly they announce this the day UFC announces they will be going head to head with Smackdown. I'm so excited, three hours of TV that night with NXT following up! OK, I'm really not that excited. But it does allow me to work the Evo show on Friday night so there's that.[

The bold part is just the editor's opinion (which I like that they keep their opinions out of the news bits and let the fans choose whether to read by posting after the actual news) , but that's where I got the UFC info. It could be just a coincidence or it could be a combination of several things.

I think mine came from PWInsider. They just said that WWE had a history of doing this at holiday time or whenever something was going to hurt ratings. They never mentioned UFC, but it could be part of the reason.

Too bad it's not the real guy, but oh well.

Not really digging Punk/Khali, but we'll see what'll happen.

I'm expecting 24 chairs this time.

The ratings are in for Tuesday's live Super SmackDown special - and it's great news for WWE and the SyFy channel

WWE Super Smackdown drew a 2.20 rating and averaged 3.2 million viewers.

While this is around a full ratings point below what RAW typically draws on Monday nights on USA (a much stronger network than SyFy), Tuesday's numbers are way above what SmackDown has averaged this year on Syfy. SmackDown has averaged a 1.88 rating with 2.87 million viewers on Friday nights so far this year.
